I just watched 20 versions of this intro live. I'm a guitar teacher and I wanted to check if John was bending from the 11th or 10th fret (I've seen both on tabs). All of the live videos so far just showed the band jumping around, but none showed John's guitar playing apart from this one for a split second. Watched in slo mo, paused and checked... it's the 11th fret. The things I do for my students

perhaps, one of the best LIVE performances of "Give it Away" that the RHCP ever did! Brilliant film capture as well to really add to the visual experience of this great song.

I'm guessing you like the Slane Castle version because it has a very wild, raw, edgy side? :D I like this version most because, yes it's live, but it's soo powerful, yet clean, and efficient. To illustrate: The Slane Castle version is like listening to the ocean, whilst the Rock AM Ring is like listening to a powerful water pump.

His riffs were fcking ouzstanding and filled with so much rough power and feeling. Sure - he wasnt technical at all - but he really expressed himself in music - unlike show off guys like slash.
Steady drums, groovy bass line, monstrous guitars, and an awesome lead singer are the reasons why RHCP is the best rock band ever.

Personally, I prefer bending the 10th fret a full step. Just sounds 'fuller' to me.
