      No, it's not the truth. The truth is action is the only thing that produces result. We can spend time in philosophy or we can spend time actually going out and making a difference. Understanding this does no good if people aren't out there doing something about it. A lot of people in the world have understood that climate change is a real problem, but a great proportion of them DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. For god sakes rally the people nearest to you to ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WE FACE. Fuck!

      Let's be honest, people are unreliable. I'm not saying do nothing, but just take a select few and plan how to overcome the inevitable future problems.

      John Garrison
      If action is reinforced by bad or fallacious ideas, there will be bad action.
      For action to end in good results, there needs to be those that have the capacity and time to think and formulate the good ideas upon whitch the action is based.

      No, it is the truth, and you are also right. These kinds of thoughts are the absolutely essential keys to the plans we need - otherwise that reptilian mind will do whatever it wants without thinking. Like he said in the video - philosophy, science etc. All are necessary e.g. to discuss ethics, discussing the true problems.
      Also, if people are unreliable, that's no reason to simply get a select few. Most of these problems require nearly everyone's help. To that end, yes, we must then take ACTION.

      We will kill ourselves because we don't trust our technology and will destroy it in fear of something new. If climate change wipes humanity out, it will be because we will either try to stop it, or contain it with terrible methods. We are afraid of new ideas, so we stick with the now-emptied liberal-capitalist philosophy. The world is about to change radically, and if we try to forcefully stop these changes, we can exterminate ourselves. The most important parts of life to focus on are reform of society, promotion of new thinking and lastly technological advances.

    There's one big problem with the "love of the stranger" solution, it takes two to agree on pursuing a mutual relationship without exploitation or killing each other and unfortunately, it would take everyone to simultaneously agree to peace while the one predatory person will take the opportunity to attack the naive infront of him

      Its a paradoxical conclusion because as a design of the brain, trust in strangers would be universal. The issue here is that our brain cant even begin to comprehend what that would be like hence logically the first point that bubbles to the surface is that the trust must be mutual or one will exploit it. Just having that thought is the part of your brain that doesnt trust people. So we would never fully understand it other than as it is in theory.

      Don't worry. There's a plan to murder almost everyone on the planet soon and then have neural implants in the few people the monsters who did it have kept alive, just so they can be their good obedient slaves. Then they'll just keep putting those implants in the offspring of the slaves they allow to breed to serve them while not putting them in their own bloodline so they can rule over humanity forever. And of course they'll keep the slave population to a minimum so as to not of over populate the planet again, or have to worry about a pesky rebellion from free thinkers. As a matter of fact, this is a promotional video they made in advance to show to the slave population to help brainwash them, with the help of the neural implants of course. So you can stop worrying, its all been figured out, the planet will be fine so you can stop worrying. Should be happening soon enough.

    Unfortunately you are all too right. Humanity is destined for disaster. Why? We haven’t learned how to work together as a whole. When we imagine intelligent aliens we imagine smart, powerful beings who fight wars in the vast landscape of space with powerful weapons that could destroy planets or each other, like Star Wars, and I️ think we could all agree on that, but i think we are imagining ourselves, if we make it to that point, but we can’t, because a successful civilization is one that works together to solve problems, and doesn’t give up too easily. One that has a clear idea of right and wrong. One that doesn’t fight wars between ourselves. Imagine if instead of a space race between the US and Russia, we worked together. The benefits of that would be otherworldly, and we would most likely have humans on Mars right now, but our competitiveness, our animal brain is there to tell us that we are here to survive for ourselves, not evolve. Does that make sense, I️ hope it does, if it doesn’t please tell me.

    But then there is the other side…ignorance, lies, greed, religion, separation, wanting to be more valuable than others, being vicious, hating, raping and hurting, killing hundreds of millions with weapons of biology, radiation, chemistry…

    More flaws: A lack of self-awareness or relativism. We can build complex webs of logic and reason to defend our own actions, but we are hard-pressed to apply the same types of logic to the people we don't like (or who are different from us).

      Related to tribalism: The idea of "if my group doesn't survive, then nobody should". I'm seeing some of that sentiment here in the comments. It's sort of a combination of pride and selfishness. I see it in several popular movements snaring more people and more media time.

      I find that even when your own self awareness is improved once you've picked out your problems, and fixed them even, you find other peoples lack of it a problem aswell as their actions. logic is in most cases, absolute, a 1 or 0, more self aware people, would result in more people coming to the same conclusion (depending on the problem of course) which would mean there wouldn't be that much difference, unless the "problem" is purely subjective at which point its not problem only a decision and self aware people contending a decision would understand that its not a problem.

    • @ShadowMuppetX
      @ShadowMuppetX 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Relativism is not the way to go. One can and should understand that different people and groups have different situations and histories, and that those affect their present, but relativism implies there are different versions of the truth, which there are not. One can be aware of one's situation, and no one should ever doubt another's experience, but that doesn't mean they're correct in the broader interpretation of reality based on their experiences.
      Even the greatest philosophers have only ever hit on part of the truth.
      One has to be careful around the concept of relativism because it causes us to construct reality based on the flawed experiences of others, which is no better than constructing reality based on our own flawed experiences.
      It seems to me we're going to have to accept some level of people's preference for people "like themselves" (put in quotes because tribalism isn't exclusive to race, but also increasingly, ideology). We're going to have to accept that parts of our brains are animal and immutable. Find a way to make global cooperation work while not ignoring those things that are a part of ourselves for better or worse. I think that was the Left's mistake this go around. It wanted to move forward, wanted to be "evolved", never realizing that it was playing out many of the same animal behaviors in a different way, all the while accosting its opponents for doing the same.
      Facing reality means understanding that sometimes our systems, built as though they are on the ideas of altruism and common good, are still man-made systems that may not work like we thought they would. We have to understand when those systems don't work and try to find something that works better. Just because we did something for the common good doesn't mean it can't have unintended consequences that make it untenable, and if I had one major criticism of my chosen "side", it's that it has a hard time adapting to the idea that its interference can cause harm, too and that it should think outside the box for a minute.
      I'm a firm believer that something workable and survivable exists in the tension between what we want and what the other side wants (the reasonable element of that side, of course, as well as the reasonable element of our side, as extremism exists on both and is a problem with both), and that an ideological war over relative reality is not only counterproductive, but will bring about the very outcome this video is theorizing about.

    Love means nothing when your government wages wars on foreign soil, or spills blood on domestic soil.
    Loves does nothing when cruelty and injustice run rampant with no consequences, or accountability.
    Love is nothing when no one else has any.

    • @Kanuui-
      @Kanuui- 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Funny that you talk about love. Do you truly think you have any? Love means forgiveness, not judgement. Love does not mean simply letting others live in peace. One should have love for the potential for wisdom of our species, not our species itself. And for wisdom, one needs pain and suffering until one breaks. Evil people are our testers. If we are unworthy, we suffer to learn. If we aren't unworthy, then we don't suffer. The problem is not evil, the problem is the protection that we give to pathetic, unwise idiots. We are depriving them of their own talent and convince ourselves that it is for their "good".
      Pain is not a curse, it is a blessing.

    • @idiom2805

      @@Kanuui- There is no "worth" in suffering.
      A smart man learns from their mistakes, where as a wise man learns from the mistakes of others.
      "Love means forgiveness, not judgement?" You say that, but then you go about casting judgement on others by saying "pathetic, unwise idiots" are to suffer in order to learn if they are "unworthy," and only the "worthy" won't suffer.
      Who are you to decide who is a "pathetic, unwise idiot?" What criteria do you use to cast such judgments of worth, and what rights do you have to judge others?
      The problem is that we don't give 'enough' protection to others, and instead choose to protect ourselves.
      Depriving them of their own talent? You truly believe by offering a helping hand to others in need, we somehow deprive them of some sort of chance to become better, and the ones that don't get better should cast aside in favor of those who 'prove' themselves?
      The only thing "pathetic" here is your ideology. Your ideals would only lead people to becoming bitter, untrusting, self-centered narcissists that wouldn't even so much as lift a finger to help a dying person in front of them.
      Pain isn't some romantic idea of self-improvement. You don't get stronger or smarter the more you hurt. People with strong convictions that have the will to push through adversities become better versions of themselves because they don't let the pain stop them.
      "Love for the potential of wisdom of our species, not our species itself?" That isn't love for our potential of wisdom. You're just selecting who you do, and don't like.
      You like people who meet your petty criteria of 'wisdom,' and you forsake everyone that doesn't meet your expectations.
      If you truly cared about others and the wisdom of which you so proclaim, you would know that the truly wise thing to do wouldn't be to cast others aside, but instead help everyone to become wiser, better people. Show them the error of the ways, and help them understand how to improve themselves.
      I will leave you with a quote that you should reflect on, and maybe you'll realize just how asinine your ideology really is, and I hope you gained a little wisdom from what I've said here.
      "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link."

      I never said that I love others, because I simply don't, I love the potential, correct, but not them themselves.
      And no, through their convictions no one becomes "better". Humans grow after they analyze their agony through which they've gone through.
      And again, no. To help others is good, not necessarily wise. If you help others enough so that they don't kill themselves but not enough so that they can learn, then you have acted wisely but if you help them so much that they learn jackshit out of it, then you are a moron, nothing more.
      Agony summons the door to wisdom while analytical thinking summons the key to it.

      @@idiom2805 We are both set in our ways. Only thing that truly bothers me is that you haven't thought of your view yourself.
      You and every other human being nowadays doesn't try to adapt a new view. We only take on what is comfortable and pleasant and do not see that there are other views and perspectives that are far more complex and interesting in their thought process.
      Funny thing is, is that I would maybe even respect that view of yours, if it was yours and not hammered into you by the society, parents or friends. Believe me, I had once the same opinion and never saw anything above the horizon. Never tried to understand the perspective of those who have been broken apart, never tried to understand those who now hurt others because of it. The only foolish thing here is that most do not think for themselves or fool themselves into thinking that they are thinking for themselves yet are not.
      Through agony we adapt new views, that actually do not even need to be evil, through something as seemingly simple as pain, we can discover so many new points of views, it is absolutely incredible.

      We are not controlled by greed, we are controlled by the idealisme of security = good life. meaning that if you think you are secure you will have a good life. that is the fundamental thing any human wants. Security can be many things, Money is a Security, Collecting stuff, owning a house is a security. but it is always better to have more security, more money, more houses. we are never content .. and that is greed but that is also the reason why we have survived for so many years. we needed to collect and create security to survive in the early years of our time. we don't need that anymore but our brain hasn't adapted. just like it hadn't adapted to Sugar tasting really good. despite it not being a rarity anymore. The reason why honey and sugar taste good is because it was extremely rare food sources.

      Thanks to technology however, humanity can surmount the problem trade roughly solved back then, allowing a peaceful and sustainable coexistence again. The sooner Humanity realizes this possibility, the more chance it has to survive its selfmade catastrophy.

    We're paradoxical as a species. We may believe all this but as long as there are people who do not, we cannot turn our beliefs into actions.
    Take the first flaw in humanity: Tribalism.
    If I truly believe in showing love and respect to one another but I am outnumbered by those who will harm me regardless, because of our fear for our own lives, that love will never be shown. Nothing is scarier that a combination of violence and delusion. As long as there is hate and distrust in this world, love will never have a chance to grow.

      Mate, first of all Aliens are probably not going to stumble upon our humble civilisation. And if they did, I am certain they're not going to find it boring. Do you know why? Because civilisation is a human construct; the herd mindset attributed to Earth species'.
      Aliens from a foreign planet will have evolved much much much much much differently, absolutely everything about them will be different. We will have more in common with spiders than aliens. The curiosity and drive to analyse new discoveries is a human thing to do. Aliens will most likely not analyse our civilisations, and if they did they just wouldn't understand it. Unless they evolved from humans.

    So, after the video I wanted to know other people's insight to that matter, but reading some of the comments only made me even more resentful of the humanity... For example, there are a lot of people talking about leadership and wanting to see a group of people 'pay for their wrongs', but what they all fail to acknowledge is that, by talking about humanity, you are included as well. There are no apparent figures at fault for anything, because all of us are the same species and so we all are taking part in the impending destruction of the world, because, let's face it, we cannot change its' course. I hate myself just as much as I hate everyone on this planet. Life is just great, isn't it...
    Also... Have you ever wondered that if our brain is actually such a brilliant machine and that if most of our states are created by it (anxiety etc.), so by having named ourselves 'homo sapiens' we internally stopped ourselves from further evolution. Like, we've just caught a glimpse of knowledge and then called ourselves 'smart' and so we may think that we cannot do better than that. I do not mean that none of technological progress is relevant, because it obviously is, but I'm thinking about it at a larger scale. What if there are more steps in human evolution to be achieved and we will never find out about it because our greed and faults took the better of us while we were supposed to be making progress and all that caused the humankind to go extinct before reaching our full potential.
    Kind of sad.

We have always learned to live responsibly, yet that doesn't mean we dom't have internal tendencies to deviate and do the things we want, rather than the things we should. And we have always had an understanding of the destructive power of our illusions/self-lies, which we know will make the bitter taste of truth palatable and unnoticeable, to the point where we are swallowed by it.

      I was just correcting the way they put into words what they meant in the video.
      About your opinion:
      Who do you call "we"? What do you mean by "already learned to live together"? What do you mean by "learned to live responsibly"? What are the proofs that we really have learned all these things? And how can one "always learn" something? If you have to learn it again and again, it means you haven't learned it.
      Being able to comprehend these things does not mean we have learned them too. Knowing about something is different than practicing it to one's advantage. With this in mind, I wouldn't say "we" have learned any of them. Some people might have.

And even when others see that lack of understanding, it's simply ignored and passed over as normal, even if it actually isn't. People are just expected to already know how to deal with everything or to learn it themselves.

      Gerald P. Evil is the violation of others free will, so murder and rape and thievery are evil acts because the free will of another man is tarnished... goodness can be perceived as good because it allows the evil to exist with no interference, unconsciously that is how we use “good” but what it truly is, is unconditional love, and that is acting in accordance to respecting free will, and letting nature take its course, because that is selfless, it is doing and being for another for no reason other than using your free will... evil is evil because it is selfish to the immediate gratification to exploitation for free will... goodness does not exploit free will!

    • @g.p.1101
      @g.p.1101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@camerontaylor7471 So, evil is defined by each person, right? If a person has the free will to believe that it is evil to not own slaves to do your labor then according to your logic was Abraham Lincoln, who violated the free will of people who owned slaves by criminalizing slavery, an evil man? Without a creator of a universal moral code then according to your logic it would be evil for the police to arrest you for stabbing somebody because they are violating your free will to stab. If there is no creator then a person who murders another person to steal their possessions and wife is just "survival of the fittest" and nature. I'm a former atheist by the way.

Congratulations you’ve joined a select group in society that has existed for as long as human beings have: the doomsday advocates. I’m sure they are proud of your admission into the realm of enlightenment. I see they have even convinced you of our desire to conquer the universe! And the multi-verse will be ours next! Then we will come for heaven and conquer it too!!!
      We are barely making probes that can explore the near galaxy. The only people alive today dreaming about conquering mars in the name of mankind are movie writers, directors and apparently doomsday advocates. As a species over the centuries we have changed in innumerable ways. You’re just being incredibly ignorant to say otherwise. And you know it’s kinda easy to be a little bit full of yourself when you’re literally the only species on your planet that has the ability to reason things out, like mathematics and sciences. Too bad that trait missed you, can’t be perfect after all. Please go dig a hole and stock it up with your favorite canned goods and be as an ostrich, don’t worry we will let you know when the coast is clear.

      It’s so ridiculously hilarious to read a text from someone claiming they know what enlightenment even is. Yeah because you’re God now right and you define the universe? 😂 Claiming we are a train that has gone off the cliff already 🤣 yeah even the scientific community, that has convinced you of your impending doom, does not agree with you. The vast majority of them are not even predicting the “end of the world”. They are predicting things that may have huge impacts on mankind, such as sea level rise rendering current coastal areas uninhabitable. But that’s not going to end the world or humanity. It’s incredible how much we know that we don’t know and yet we want to make predictions as if we are gods. Just chill bro.

    Self awareness is a rare commodity, but we already have the intellectual tools to help achieve this. Once one is trained in this manner it becomes easier to overcome these errors. I think eventually we will reach a point where we can better teach people to be more self aware. Our biases aren't so bad once we are aware we have them and are more comfortable with confronting them.

      @Alvino A We legitimately are a danger to ourselves and life on earth. With the press of a few buttons, we could send ICBMs crisscrossing the entire planet, wiping out almost all life on Earth.
      And that's not even getting into the climate catastrophe we're current waging on the planet.

    • @Colddirector
      @Colddirector 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alvino A I seriously am confused to how you can simultaneously agree that we’re easily able to wipe out all life on earth at any time, but think that it’s arrogant to believe that spewing god knows how many millions of tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere is affecting the climate. It’s more arrogant to believe that we can do whatever we want to the environment and there will never be any serious consequences. We’ve known that co2 has a warming effect since the 19th century, and that it’s warming the planet since the 70s, that is simple fact.
      We aren’t children anymore, there is no mommy that will come and clean up the earth because we trashed it. The earth is our home, and we aren’t taking care of it, it’s given us plenty of time but sooner or later we will be evicted.

    • @Colddirector
      @Colddirector 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alvino A You’re simply wrong. It’s been proven that CO2 traps heat and the amount of warming happening is unprecedented in our records and been happening since the industrial revolution.
      You keep deflecting, my point about arrogance is that you people say it is arrogant to believe that our emissions are changing the climate but recognise the fact we’re able to wipe almost all life off the planet as straight fact. Your opposition to that fact is inexplicable, almost ideological.

    this is actually very close to what i've come to believe is the core flaw with humans, and that is a conflict between instinct and reason. i believe emotions are like a dialogue between these two sides of us but it is prone to turning abusive and argumentative. i think reason and logic are taking us more and more into a future where the conventional need for instinct is obsolete. now, instinct is still needed, but instead of needing to hunt or find shelter to defend ourselves from nature or predators, it is instead needed to help us with more complex issues. Yes we still need it to keep us from running out in traffic, but also for deciding whether or not to trust someone or navigate life decisions about what path will lead to a healthy long life. This requires a collaborative effort between our instincts and reason, but i think our instincts are finding it harder and harder to acclamate to their new role since it's not as straight forward as it used to be and that can be frustrating.

    • @lincolncurtis1725
      @lincolncurtis1725 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree. Another example I think is of our technological advances. They were made using our "reason" to help us survive and have succeeded but at the same time do the opposite because we can't evolve in time or in other words instinctually catch up so it becomes a threat. I think this is also an example of the conflict between reason and instinct that are both working towards the same goal.
