several thoughts after watching this game: first and foremost was shocked at the way in which the Niners won the game…if they’d won by a FG or single TD that would’ve made sense, but for them to completely manhandle Philly was unbelievable…if that doesn’t send a statement to the rest of the league not sure what does; this season the Niners seem to have had their way against the bird teams: Cardinals, Seahawks, Eagles, still one more game against the Seahawks, plus the Ravens who are the only team left on the schedule they should realistically lose to; regarding the Seahawks, they should approach next week like a playoff game, why? They were on such a high after after blowing Dallas away, then had a letdown, played sloppy, and lost to Cleveland…now they’re on a high after caging the Eagles and don’t want to fall into that same trap just cause they’ve already beaten Seattle once; they do still trail Philly in the standings, and if they can get that #1 seed with a first round bye the sky’s the limit
I would double check that. The 49ers took serious injury in the browns game from the start. Had nothing to do with them beating the cowboys. We had several injuries including deebo, CMC, Trent, and purdy having a concusion. This in turn was a three game effect on the niners since deebo and trent didnt play in the games we lost. 49ers are a humble team and always look forward not at the previous week.
It's great that you covered more than the highlights, Josh, and let folks know to skip if they didn't actually want to understand what happened in the first quarter. That's what sets you apart from other football analysts - your videos are like reading a good magazine or book that gives the audience more time to understand what's happening in the world, way beyond the 2-min news flash on tv. That's why I keep coming back. Also, I totally agree with your comment that the teams played the game the right way after the sidelines incident with Greenlaw. Football has become a lot more professional since I was a kid in the 80s and there was a lot more macho frat house / gang culture throughout the league. Even though fans and the media like to jaw about the minor controversies, it's clear that the players across the sidelines from each other have mutual respect, know that the "enemy" could be your teammate next week, and value their multi-million dollar contracts more than taking obvious cheap shots that will get them fired.
Thank you Hugh, I really appreciate the feedback about the timestamp and chapter select. Your analysis on the current state of the game is insightful. The competition has become so high-level that sometimes we lose sight of that and refer to the opponent as our "enemy". Of course there is a big difference between a "rival" and an "enemy"! Importantly, the spirit of high competitiveness remains, and is to be respected. Thank you again for another great comment.
Its something really special at this level, to have a player like Deebo say: "If Brock doesn't get hurt, the game (nfc championship) wouldn't have been close." And then he came out and completely backed it up, putting it on his shoulders scoring 3 times and shutting down the momentum and energy the eagles got after greenlaw ejection. What a special special effort from a magnificent player. Game 🏈 for me has #19 all over it. This is a great win and completely separated us from the rest of the league. We're the best team in football right now and its not even arguable. Have to mention Olsen really got on my nerves for pointing out a questionable non holding call on ronnie bell, but never mentioned all the holding and false starts lane johnson was doing, even a close up on him tackling bosa from behind. Clear bias once again against SF49.
I'm so glad you mentioned that because I remember the Ronnie Bell talking point from the telecast, and I was prepared to examine it here. But when I looked (and there are three different angles) it sure didn't seem egregious, and like I said the officials were 20 yards away. Obviously they can't call something if it *might* be a penalty, they have to actually SEE a penalty being committed. As always Scott thank you for your support 🙏🙏
@@JoshBreakdownsyeah it seemed to me, with your provided angle, that the defender went down awfully easy. And between CMC and Hurts both flopping earlier, it seemed par for the course. But my problem was after a long commercial break, Olsen taking a moment to second guess a non call...while not pointing out anything on a play reviewed in close-up that was just as easily holding against Philly. I really dont like inconsistency when making a point to call out possible mistakes in officiating. And ofc you're very welcome, happy to support the channel as always

8:46 I remember during Steve Young's peak he often would have one pass sail high early on. Then he would settle down and complete 19 in a row. I was at Sun Devil Stadium in 1999 for what turned out to be Steve's last game. When he fell down, knocked completely out, I thought to myself it would be 20 years before the 49ers would get back to that level. It took 23 but BP was worth the wait. Great video btw.
Thank you. I used to compare Peyton Manning's accuracy to Young's even though they are completely different athletes. But today I was thinking Purdy's accuracy (and cerebral understanding of the game) reminds me of Manning's. Funny how things come full circle!
I was at that game in Tempe. I was up getting beers and watched Steve’s injury on the monitor in the restaurant. Not the same for so many years after so yes welcome 13Brock Purdy!
@@JoshBreakdowns Was just thinking the other day that Purdy seems different from any QB I can remember- how he controls the vertical direction, dropping balls down into, and a sense he throws not just at or to, but *on* a receiver. Special stuff!

Lane Johnson is a false start legend. Slowing down the film really shows how blatant is truly is. Nonetheless the Niners absolutely dominated and showcased how much talent is on this roster.
What a game! My favorite part of the breakdowns are when the niners rip off a big play and to hear the excitement in Josh’s voice when giving the play by play. “Debo bounces off him and it’s a foot race to the end zone! Slay grabs him but Debo gets in for the touchdown! Wow!” Love it!😂
Im SO SICK of the national media talking about what Brock Can't do and how he hasn't came from behind. How about the fact that we went three and out and were down 6 at the Linc?!?! And he put up 42!!!! F these pundits.

very interesting video. love to see the shots of the game clock and more importantly... that Eagles fans found their way to the exit in the 4th quarter as more and more empty seats are seen in that view. Great game indeed. Go Niners!
Thank you, Josh! I was out of country so I couldn't watch the game in real time. What I noticed is that Brock is really at another level in terms of processing through his progression and accuracy within 20-30 yards of the field. Seeing hurt have played that he could throw open, or throw balls where only his receivers could make a play, yet he wouldn’t pull the trigger shows how great Brock really is. He’s also able to recognize we here to go pre snap is big too. What he doesn’t have in height and arm strength he makes up with his mind.
I watch hours and hours of post game reviews... Yours is by far the best.. thanks Josh - really appreciate it from across the pond. Don't you think it was a bit harsh on Greenlaw?
Thank you, I always appreciate your comments, and yes I thought it was harsh. I thought they would send him to the sideline to cool down but they gave him a full ejection, which obviously affected the teams disproportionately. Fortunately the 49ers were in total command of that game.
Josh, what do you see as the determining factor in a victory vs the Ravens? I was in Baltimore when we lost to them last and i remember thinking, how do you coral this guy? Great analysis as usual, and I especially like you showed 49ers' struggles. Just a correction, #53 is Christian Elliss, not Zack Cunningham (#52) as Cunningham is NOT playing due to injury (30:39)
This game should have been a bigger blowout. On nearly every play, the Eagles O-line is holding our defensive ends. They have one hand grabbing the outside shoulder pad to the point where you can see the rusher getting pulled back in when they try to make an outside move.
Fantastic breakdown, Kyle scared me at first, I thought is he overthinking the play calling in the first qtr, of course we all seen how teams establish the run first to open up play action. But I think he knew Philly was depleted in the linebacker position and he was going to take advantage with a lot of the underneath stuff. The one thing I love about the Niners is whoever gets that ball is not going down easy. I honestly think Dallas will try and beat Philly with a lot of the over the top stuff. Dallas should be thanking the Niners for basically tenderizing Philly for them. I think Dallas will win this next game, Philly is the far more physical team between the two, but teams who play the Niners are beat up. The sad thing is commentators will make it all about Prescott like he single handedly diced Philly up. Dallas don’t have the offensive weapons the Niners do, and it should be a much closer game. The Niners proved Dallas nor Philly can stand in their way when their healthy and focused
Well said! Dak is having a great season and the Cowboys are on a roll, but the Niners totally outclassed them when they met earlier this year. The 49ers rise to the occasion in these big games and it's clear they are the best team, with the best QB, in the league. With 5 games left if they can stay disciplined, avoid injury, and see it through to the end they will set themselves up for a great run through the playoffs, and hopefully, beyond.
I disagree completely with the whole Dom situation. The "security" guard intervened directly against Greenlaw and was in his face. Only coaches, players and referees should be get involved in plays. No one else. Dom *escalated* matters, and when Greenlaw reacted, a critical player got ejected because of a non-player's actions. This was terrible for the 49ers, but even worse, it sets a precedent that such conduct by a team is *rewarded*. So now can a security guard intervene in the Superbowl and change the course of the game!? Yes. The NFL needs to change the rules so this nonsense can never be repeated.
They're playing unselfish, team football and that's why they are unstoppable. Love BA sliding in on his back to celebrate another Deboe TD! Bang bang niner gang!
Two things. I thought it was going to be long afternoon when at the end of the first quarter the Niners ran 6 plays for -6 yards. The other, I'm a classic uniform guy, the lack of red stuck out to me. Not that it has any influence on performance.
Shanahan's MO was to use the run to setup the pass. Eagles knew that and played the run early on. And SF was stuck on 3 and out. Then Shanahan changed MO and used the pass to setup the run. A bit of a gamble, but it worked after Purdy settled down. Kittle got the pass game going, which untracked CMC, and Shanahan was able to start using play action to bamboozle Philly.
Wilts needs to remind the d-line to always put their hands up to block the Qb's throw. Thats something that could help in a defense scheme. Can't figure out why these guys dont do it more...they get payed well to know this move. C'mon wilts! You're the teacher/coach!😮
It's nice to see the officials let the game be physical. I grew up in a time when that last big hit by Lenore was commonplace by the likes of Jack Tatum, Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater and the rest of the old school big hitters.
Also that Big Dom incident thing, Sirianni is full of crap. It was reported he was on the sideline asking why Greenlaw isn't being ejected. Then in the presser, he says he wished nobody was ejected.
SPOT ON analysis of what I've already watched MANY times (with GLEE!).🤩 1) "The Incident" - Your comments are WAY above what's seen elsewhere, where flames of controversy were shamelessly fanned. YOU stressed apolgies for hot tempers concerning "what the pictures show", is the CORRECT call. Other sources close shots - wondered if Greenlaw just yanked him down on top of himself, but pictures clearly show he spun the player so he landed on the turf. NOT COOL🤨. 2) I repeat, give Jennings more playing time! Impressive plays in this game.😲Helps insure Deebo and McCaffrey remain healthy. 49ers have talented DEPTH! Use them to develop next generation. Go NINERS!
Yes, but Jennings has consistently shown he's prime time and he catches the ball just FINE.😁 If he is rotated with Deebo and McCaffry, they can catch their breath better. Also, when they are way ahead, if the backups get more playing time, won't they develop better as players?🤔and the 1st string less likely to be injured? (I'd bet there are more injuries in the 4th quarter, if that data exists.) 🙄Seen McCaffry do 3 plays in a row several times. He's amazing, but not bullet proof. We've seen too many injuries, and I just want to see all of them playing the full season and playoffs. @@JoshBreakdowns
Yeah I think he didn't want to wait another split second to see what the DB was going to do. We'll see if the 49ers return to that play at some point this season 👍👍
Small correction (my pet peeve). It’s NOT mano y mano (hand AND hand) BUT mano A mano (hand TO hand). Not sure why this bothers me so much, but I guess because it’s become so prevalent lately. Other than that, I love your videos and keep on doing what you’re doing!
Kittle blocking is so humbling. He is a hudge play maker weather will be Offensive or defensive. The hand off to Deboo but look close and he faked a pass for like less then a second. That was what sold it. That fake pass and then he ran it in. Like my brothers used to tell me play ball with out the ball.
Okay, the keys are the playoff and the super-bowl. Will all the players be healthy when the time comes. That all I care about the health of the players for the super-bowl.
Greenlaw needs to control himself, Dre is important part of the Team, Dom is not a player nor a coach thus unimportant for the game just imagine that the Eagles won by abusing Dre´s backup.
That ejection was ticky tack at best. Dom pushed Dre with his fist in his chest and Dre tickled his nose. Soft officiating is ruining the game. 15 yards for the suplex, and move on. But at least we got a new nickname out of it...DREmond Greenlaw

This game should have been a bigger blowout. On nearly every play, the Eagles O-line is holding our defensive ends. They have one hand grabbing the outside shoulder pad to the point where you can see the rusher getting pulled back in when they try to make an outside move.
The best analysis of this game that I've seen.
High praise, thank you 🙏
This is off topic, but does the overhead camera look like a giant bug flying around to anyone else?
Love your videos man. Its like watching a game I haven't seen yet 😂broke down legit
You make an excellent point, and I agree with you, the NFL should make a rule change (or change how they enforce the current rule) to prevent this.
Brock shows his stuff man !
Thanks Josh, I always enjoy watching your breakdowns!
Thank you John
Thanks Josh.
14:58 I love those movies, great reference.
Layers and layers of depth, Josh is the Greatest 😄
Thank you for your masterclass explanations on plays ❤👍
26:48 Kittle celebrating as if he scored the touchdown!
They're playing unselfish, team football and that's why they are unstoppable. Love BA sliding in on his back to celebrate another Deboe TD! Bang bang niner gang!
Thank you for another excellent analysis Josh.
Excellent MK whoopty
As always, insightful analysis.
Good one Josh
What do you need? Time. (Classic)
Very nice analysis!!!!!
We gotta clinch this week!! More bird to eat!! It’s bird hunting season!!
Two down, three to go 😁

I like this film break down He got hype & then he misses the tackle
That’s right the 49ers smacked them birds 42-19 👋🏻💥🦅Purdy gave it to them birds
Wilts needs to remind the d-line to always put their hands up to block the Qb's throw. Thats something that could help in a defense scheme. Can't figure out why these guys dont do it more...they get payed well to know this move. C'mon wilts! You're the teacher/coach!😮
I wasn't...cough....wasn't worried during the first quarter at all. All that pacing around the TV was just exercise....yeah exercise!
I wasn't pacing; I was relaxed.
I thought it was already game over.
It's nice to see the officials let the game be physical. I grew up in a time when that last big hit by Lenore was commonplace by the likes of Jack Tatum, Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater and the rest of the old school big hitters.
Great video
Great work 👏
Thank you
They are so good that some teams are making plans to not shoot for the playoffs to rest players for next season!
Ahh yes.. the video I was waiting for
Where do you get access to this camera shot? It’s great to see the wide view.
If you sign up for NFL+ they have full game replays, condensed replays, and All-22
I laughed out loud at the Mortal Kombat TOASTY!!!
Also that Big Dom incident thing, Sirianni is full of crap. It was reported he was on the sideline asking why Greenlaw isn't being ejected. Then in the presser, he says he wished nobody was ejected.
Nice over view
Go NINERS!
Great observation about Jennings. Shanahan went to a lot of 3 receiver sets in this game and it clearly worked well against the Philly Defense.
Well said.
Thanks!
Thank you Jeff! 🙏🙏
22:13 The only real complaint I had was this throw…Deebo is wide open going to the pylon for a TD!
Yeah I think he didn't want to wait another split second to see what the DB was going to do. We'll see if the 49ers return to that play at some point this season 👍👍
Deebo had double cover; while Aiyuk is open on a comeback route.
Understood, thank you so much for letting me know 🙏🙏
That first drive McCaffrey was short on his route.
Purdy is accurate
on his throws.
Now that the regular season is over, the Eagles are broken, and this is where the break started.
#GoNiners
Love 💓 your videos 📸📸😍 and niners 💪💪
Kittle blocking is so humbling. He is a hudge play maker weather will be Offensive or defensive. The hand off to Deboo but look close and he faked a pass for like less then a second. That was what sold it. That fake pass and then he ran it in. Like my brothers used to tell me play ball with out the ball.
"Play ball without the ball", I love that. That's exactly what the 49ers are so great at.
Great analysis, except the phrase is "mano a mano", hand to hand, not "mano y mano" which is hand and hand. Thank you. ;)
This is good to know, thank you 🙏🙏
I read that the Eagles have devalued RB and LB...and it showed.
YES!
If they converted it would have been the smartest move and they’d praise him. It’s football. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way.
That's a touchdown if brock sees it on the first play of the game missed it man!!!!! Dang!!!
We neve lost to the Seahawks since Purdy and that is toasty 😅
Forgot to mention, the flawless routes the Eagles fans ran...out the stadium!!
Okay, the keys are the playoff and the super-bowl. Will all the players be healthy when the time comes. That all I care about the health of the players for the super-bowl.
Automatic subscribe my fellow faithful ☝️⛏️⛏️
Thank you!
Thanks! Go 49ers… go Putnams !! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much Mark! 🙏🙏🙏
Each play average about 10 seconds long? Don't c how u can be tired from that.
Great game🎉! 🎉Arthur Schaupp 🎉😅
