    have to put mount upside down to get 0 at the top

    It's super annoying that Skywatcher don't have their polar clock reticle aligned with 0 at the top when the scope is in home position. I cannot understand why they don't do this at the factory! Mine is rotated by several hours which makes polar alignment a pain.

      @mesenteria หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can rotate the reticle. Take off the outer ring, and then use a small nail or something, tapping gently with a rubber mallet, to rotate the inner ring. Gently. Tap once, check, tap again, check. then replace the outer retainer.

    Hi, nice video ,but i have questions ,for example if by turning my RA 90 degrees i achieve the projected Polaris position ,should i just do it that way , or is there a way to "move " the "0" to be at the top with out turning your RA ,like manually rotating it to be at the top?thank you for your patience

Trying to find that right balance between basic and too much is a work in progress. I'm sure in the future we will release more in-depth advanced tutorials. Stay Tuned!

    Excelent! One question please: I just bought a new skywatcher120/1000 rig with manual equatorial neq5 and I'm still learning the equatorial (before it had a 70mm with altaz mount. Once I managed to put it in parking position (orient the tripod to the north with a quality compass, level the tripod , level right ascension and level declination and adjust latitude of Madrid), can I consider that alignment is good enough to visual moon and planet by using the A.R. manualy slow motion to track it ?
    Even if it is fake alignment? because sometimes you want to see the moon during the day or because there is something building, that does not allow you to see the polar. And if i lose the objet, can i correct the declination too?
    thank you again

      Unfortunately that is a method of polar aligning that we cant show at this moment due to us living in the Northern Hemisphere. We would HIGHLY recommend buying a QHY Polemaster which can help you get the perfect polar alignment to both the Northern and Southern hemispheres in under 5 mins. Check out our video posted a few weeks ago on how the Polemaster works. The tutorial is for the Northern Hemisphere, but it's pretty much the same method if you clicked Southern

    Thank you man. I just searched everywhere how to perfectly align with the NCP. Oh my gosh.
    But I have question. I have a GoTo Telescop, I don't need to find the Celestial Pole when using the azmuth mount right? I should only point the telescope tube to the north and than to proceede the 3 star alignment?

      Indeed with a fork mount you just need to place the telescope in its default position facing north.

      You should be able to turn the ocular of the polar scope. And for the Skywatcher mount you use the big nobs of the mount to move them.

    • @kishascape
      @kishascape 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You never need a camera for aligning the mount.

  • @MultiTempered
    @MultiTempered 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    does the mount need to be turned on to do this? I turn on my HEQ5 pro and the red light turns on but I can not see any stars because of it

    • @OPTTelescopes
      @OPTTelescopes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need the mount to be on to look through the polar scope and polar align but it is recommended that it is on and tracking so that once you are polar aligned and things are locked down, its already perfectly tracking.

    • @ahmedkasapi9880
      @ahmedkasapi9880 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly, well at least the way I used to do it, you put it on a spot on the scope that touches a circle around the center. To save my self the headache of doing that I bought qhyccd polemaster, and I would recommend the same to you if you need to go to a dark location and want to save as much time as you can in the initial setup.

    • @cj_barnes-wilkie

      While getting it directly in line with the Southern Celestial Pole it quite difficult (as the polar star has a magnitude range between 5.45 and 5.50), it is possible to get it close to it. Draw an imaginary line from the long axis of Crux for about 4-5 times its length, and then drawing another imaginary line, this time perpendicular from the middle of the 2 pointers (Alpha and Beta Centuari). These two lines should be at a point that is approximately the Southern Celestial Pole. For more information, check out www.lincolnharrison.com/blog-index/southern-hemisphere-polar-alignment.

    why does the polar scope only work when the dec is rotated 90 degrees? There must be a reason for this, but what is it?

    • @clearush
      @clearush 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the shaft for the Dec blocks the polar scope, so there is a hole drilled thru it for polar alignment when rotated 90 degrees, also rotating the the dec 90 degrees moves the main scope out of the way so you can access the polar scope.
