He's just socially awkward and not a public speaker. The only reason why I don't sound like him all the time is I practiced speaking with people. I'm a natural introvert, so, occasionally I'll slip and start to sound awkward as well. He's a great musician. I play keyboard and guitar, but my keyboard skills are nothing like his. He's a genius! Music is how he speaks.
Slightly nuts? He smashed his own face in with a brick to make the album cover for I Get Wet. But you know what, his commitment is phenomenal and he is a good musician

Rarely a 7th (so nearly no power chords) and never a 3rd (unless he is passing thru with a bassline. Tha leaves a lot of harmonic room (note info and fq space). Most of the instruments are playing those "monochords" in unison, but covering different octaves. And there you have it:: A mastodon wall of sound to keep alive the music epicness!! The lack of lower mids harmonic content also allows the higher notes to roam free, with more complex and overlaping polymelodies. Don't forget that many times just a monophonic bassline + a vocal melody on top already sets the scales, and may give enough information and correlation for chords. There it is, I said it. It probably doesn't make any sense, but that's because I am doing what I'm supposed to: PARTYING HARD AND FLYING "KITE AS A HIGH"
