Very cool!! It seems they kept the realistic preview separated from simulator. I will need to revisit your beta testing tutorial of this last version. :) Thanks a lot for your guidance.
honestly thats the only part I don't like. It seems there's something keeping them from doing the new realistic preview in the same window as siimulate. They have mentioned bringing it back but it didn't make it to release.
By default, a repo install of inkscape puts the extensions folder into (iirc) ~./config/inkscape/extensions That is where inkstitch looks for inkscape to satisfy the "is installed" query. Flatpaks put the extension into (again iirc) /var/lib/flatpak/Inkscape/extensions inkstitch can't find it and the query "is installed" returns false. if it knows the system you're on it will actually do a repo install if it can, if not it will fail to install. Snaps pu the extension into (again iirc) /var/lib/snapd/inkscape/extensions same "is installed" returns false as flatpak, same attempt to install from repo will proceed. appimg (again iirc) runs it's folders from the appimg location and those folders are temporary (This is from long ago, it may be different now). immutables take this problem to another level, Everything is sandboxed and has no user privileges. So if you try to install something to an extension folder in the system, only root has access. Only root has access to run them as well. There's definitely ways for a more experienced user to make them work, for the layman using linux I say "just don't use snaps or flatpaks, or appimg. Only install from repo"
Quick question.. When you were testing the BETA version of this latest inkstitch, you tried to open the lettering COLLEGE, (the one you shared with us), but you encountered a weird issue or warning that did not let you use that lettering. I use a lot the COLLEGE lettering because i like it a lot, so my question is: Does this COLLEGE lettering works fine with the released V3.1.0 version? I believe i will install the new version in the following days but I wouldn´t want to not being able to use it. Thanks again for your help.
I'm such a slacker I didn't even try it lol 🤣🤣. Definitely a good question though. Thank you for the kudos on the colleege font I made 😁 I will try it after work and let you know if you don't beat me to it.
You have a very positive view to inkstich. Thats ok. But let me tell you some of my experiences. I am new to embroidery software, and I am a software developer for 30 years and checking out 3 apps. Hatch, Embird and inkstich. I am using lightburn for laser, fusion360 for 3dprint and inkscape is similar. First what I had to do was to create short cuts . You are getting crazy with the mouse. Extension/InkStick/Parm, Extension/InkStick/Parm,... and so on. In the update the took the realistic view out of the simulator ? I dont think that was a good idea. Realistic view takes too long in comparison to the other apps. Start/Ending points: Dont work for Running Stich, but InkStich added the symbols to the layer without an error. If you have a lot of objects, and a lot of start and ending points, the layer view gets complicated, but a good brain training for my age. inkstich is a free extension to inkscape and is limited to the options inkscape allows. If I would learn inkstich my wife. No, I wont. Would I use it, yes, but with some headache. It´s like hot and cold.
All good points and I very much agree, i don't care for the the new realistic preview. My using inkstitch has more to do with the fact that I use Linux, and no other digitizing program that I know of (at least years ago when I started) will work on Linux, so inkstitch is my only option. Even on a mac, last I knew, Embrilliance is the only other option. My view on starting to learn a new program is just pick one and learn it. There's a learning curve on all of them. I know inkstitch well enough and it does enough that I don't second guess any of those other programs at all.
Because my system is old (mojave) I do get the 'hassle' of having to OK it via system preferences but good to know inkstitch & inkscape are still supporting older hardware/software
I really liked it and I am excited to see the next beginner video. Thank you so much for doing this!!! You are a fountain of knowledge!
Thank you waiting for the new lessons

Thank you for this, I'm running the current version on a Mac, would be nice to see how to install some of their fonts into the font library...
Why not choose flatpak inkscape if I may? I know some of us are using Aeon and Atomic distros and flatpak is viable for the segment
By default, a repo install of inkscape puts the extensions folder into (iirc)
~./config/inkscape/extensions
That is where inkstitch looks for inkscape to satisfy the "is installed" query.
Flatpaks put the extension into (again iirc)
/var/lib/flatpak/Inkscape/extensions
inkstitch can't find it and the query "is installed" returns false.
if it knows the system you're on it will actually do a repo install if it can, if not it will fail to install.
Snaps pu the extension into (again iirc)
/var/lib/snapd/inkscape/extensions
same "is installed" returns false as flatpak, same attempt to install from repo will proceed.
appimg (again iirc) runs it's folders from the appimg location and those folders are temporary (This is from long ago, it may be different now).

So i tried it and it still gives me an error, but it works anyway as expected
@@LowTechLinux Great. Thanks for taking the time to try it out. Cheers!

I have inkscape 1.4 beta on my 2009 Imac running mojave and inkstitch 3.1 works fine (just a bit slow) with it.
excellent, thank you for the field report

*runs to down load update*
