Synopsis: WHEN ENEMIES ARISE FROM ALL SIDES
Text: Joshua 11:1-6.
Introduction: There are times when it seems enemies have overwhelmed us, when attacks seem to mount from all sides. That is not the time to give up and surrender, but to hold unto God, and stand up and fight.
The people of Israel had a great promise from God - A land of milk and honey. It took them 40 years to get there, and on arrived, they thought they would inherit it on a platter of gold. They were to realize they had to fight for it. They did and saw the wall of Jericho fall, and they defeated some enemy kings. But when they thought things would get easier for them, they saw untold number of enemies gang up to destroy them. That attacked seemed overwhelming: they came from different directions and it seemed they had no chance of survival. But that was when the game changer occurred - God showed up for Israel and told Joshua, “Don’t be afraid of them, for I will hand over all the enemies dead to you by this time tomorrow.” (Josh 11:6).
No matter who and what is against you, when God is for you, you will prevail. Psalm 93:3-4; Psalm 22:12-13; 1 John 4:4; Romans 8:31; Luke 10:19; Psalm 3:6; 1 Samuel 14:6.
Joshua launched a surprise attack on them at the Waters of Meron where they were gathered and defeated them. Joshua 11: 8,23; Isaiah 54: 15,17.
In 2 Kings 6:12-23, Prophet Elisha and his servant were surrounded by an overwhelming number enemy soldiers, that the servant feared for their safety. But when Elisha prayed, God opened the eyes of the servant to see that the invisible army of angels protecting them far outnumbered the enemies surrounding them. Elisha prayed and the Lord struck all the soldiers with blindness and they were demobilized and arrested.
The Lord will break every siege against you and empower you to prevail against every enemy of your life and destiny. Psalm 124:7; Psalm 60:12. He will release angels for your help. He will open the Heavens for you and pour you abundant blessings. And will grant you comfort, peace and rest.
