  • Hi, here we have a bent Mario Edition Nintendo Switch with the blue screen of death. I purchased it faulty from eBay. Can it be fixed?
    Merch is here!!!!! www.puddlt.com...

    Fantastic stuff vince, and thanks for the mention too. So happy to see you've fixed your first BSOD, definitely looking forward to when you reball one 😀
    Just a heads up, the BSOD is actually a communication issue between the CPU and RAM (hence why sometimes it will be the ram at fault). If the pressure test doesn't work it usually has a pulled trace on the bottom right side of the cpu, they're a pain in the jacksy lol.
    Keep it up, your repairs get better every day!

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks Cod3r, I will look at the 2nd one when the solder balls finally arrive from China. A nice RAM reball would be a good one to start off on, fingers crossed that might be what the 2nd one needs 👍👍👍

    • @TheCod3r
      @TheCod3r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Mymatevince can't wait for that one. Ram would definitely be the best way to get into reballing becsuse of the size of the chips. It may have taken so long because of the nozzle being left on too, I tend to remove the nozzle for switches because it spreads the heat better 😁

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheCod3r I did think the nozzle didn't help. Also my hot air station isn't the best for the bigger chips. Next time if it is the same chip, I will try it without the nozzle to see if I can beat that time!🤣👍👍

    What a nice looking switch. That colour is brilliant!
    Mr. Rossman answered a question about taking big cips of from macbooks. His answer was you do not need a board heater it is possible to do as good of a work if you pre heat it in the oven to 100 degrees and take the chip out right after, it is probably easyer to reflow a chip that way as well.

    Ooh, what a lovely Switch, never seen one that colour before. Not sure if you've tried it, but i find aluminium tape an excellent alternative to kapton tape, it sticks down really well. (well, that's my experience with it... I'm sure I'll get some replies disagreeing 😁)

    A very good tip I got was to increase the chance of a successful re-flow. Just put a bit of flux on one side of a big chip like a cpu or apu and tilt the board up, then heat just the flux until it melds and it will run under the chip just by gravity. Once it comes out on the bottom along the complete length of the chip you know that every solder ball got some flux. This way you use less flux and do not have to clean connectors and stuff. Then you put it back down and heat it up gently. This way your chances are still shit but a little bit better ;D....

    I had a switch with random BSOD. It ended up being liquid damage around the Max77812
    That IC supply's voltage to the APU.
    For me applying pressure on boot didn't fix the issue, and for good reason. So if you ever come across a switch with BSOD and it's not bent or drop damage, check those MAX ICs :)

      @@Mymatevince I would check the USB connecter and see if it looks damaged and change PI3USB out.
      As far as I am aware, the same video output off the Tegra SoC is fed to the screen while not docked and to the C port via the hdmi encoder and related chips when it is docked. I don’t think the SoC is at all to blame for the dock not working.

      Definitely John, I know they don't do as well views wise but I really enjoy them. They still tend to get 20K views but on the flipside they don't take as long to fix/film and edit 👍👍👍👍

      Will do, I think it has been nearly 2 weeks and it is still working as of now. It hasn't had any serious playtime yet though! 👍

    Vince if you want to take the next step with a proper reball, buy a stencil and 90X90 reball jig. There is a few traces on the outer edge, or perimeter of the APU that frequently tear and you can see the traces visibly to run jumpers

    Thank you for doing these videos! You've helped me greatly in my electronics repair journey.
    I did have a question if you don't mind, what do you use for your camera setup for the really micro soldering? I think I remember you mentioning in a video once but I cannot remember.
    Thanks again mate 😊

    Hopefully i dont damage my Nintendo switch from bashing it when it misbehaves (a number of years ago i had a low cost Lenovo laptop, which was plagued with issues from day 1, for a start, it would frequently get blue screens of death, im not 100% sure of the cause, but some of the messages that came up suggested it was an issue with the RAM, or possibly multiple faults, and the RAM was only one of the faults
    Another issue that it had was it would lock up and become completely unresponsive, and if i was watching a video when it happened, the internal speakers, AND headphones if i had any connected, would start buzzing, when that happened i had to hold the power button down to shut it off
    Yet another issue it had, which wasnt unique to this laptop, but more of a windows 10 issue, is what i like to call “WiFi disease”, which is where it refuses to connect to WiFi networks, or sometimes it will connect but it then cannot access the internet even though there is no issue with the internet connection or router, and the problem only existed when connecting over WiFi
    And you may have guessed, but i started bashing that laptop when it misbehaved)

    I"m late but-- right now, every painting is a good painting. Even if it's bad. Every painting is a step on a journey. Every failure is a chance to learn. Every risk a chance to grow. There are no good paintings or bad paintings. Just progress :)

    In Germany you only find garbage. The products are way to expensive and if you want to reapir and resell you make maybe 5€....A used switch lite goes for around 90-120€ a broken one is like 50-90€

    I let my switch battery drain bc it was on blue screen of death. And once i fully charged it, it went back to the Home screen. I thought it worked but when i came back home from work, i turned it one and it went back to the blue screen.

    I don't think it's the APU making it not dock. That is an awfully specific problem...an APU problem will almost always make it not work at all. I'd suspect the HDMI chip or something.

    I concur with others for a 12 yr old your son is fantastic you are way over critical and I feel I am reasonably qualified to comment as I studied art and design through to Uni level albeit it’s been 20+ yrs kinda reminds me of Bob Ross. I hope your son doesn’t see this video and realise you’ve criticised him to your viewers it would be devastating shame on you what did you expect Cezanne, Picasso or Hockney level at 12?!!! 😡

    Switches come bent out of the box so the fact that it's slightly bent doesn't necessarily mean that it was abused. Mine is bent and it's never been subjected to any kind of force. I don't hold it with an iron grip when I play on it, I don't rage and I keep it stored in a sturdy pouch. I've even heard of people who got their Switch replaced because it was bent, and the replacement was also bent.

    Umm so mie has a BSOD, but it still kinda works ? I just need to not shake (or actually touch) it or the screen freezes and I have to do some litte shenanigans to get it to restart and it still works, I'm still young and have only some really basic tools (manual triwing and fourwing screwdrivers) which I have used to repair some Joy-cons (there's only one I can't fix because I can't seem to get that one orange thingy which i don't know the name of back inside for the Zr button), and in ddition to that some of the screws on the Switch are stripped (yeah i'm fucked i know) but is there any way ? I thing I need to weld it back but uhhhhh

    You pushed 480°C for around 8min, how can this chip and whole motherboard not be cooked. I'm like what does it take to destroy one of them. Impressive.
    I still think preheating and larger nozzle would be much safer though.
