Yes thanks for sharing . I can relate to the guilt when looking at items you’ve bought and being wary of any new purchases even if they serve a purpose.
I feel this. I became as obsessed with decluttering as I was with shopping and I made some really bad choices and gave away some important things. Unfortunately I hadn’t solved the underlying emotional problems so I just started the shopping cycle again. Now that things are more settled I can really see that even minimalism taken to the extreme can be unhealthy.
Your awesome honesty and authencity about this degluttering subject is wonderful! I also absolutely loved the title of your video. Thanks for the great tips!
I so relate to buying and selling a lot! I’ve realised the pace of my bag buying has increased, but so has the pace of my selling, and most of the bags I’ve sold are recent purchases! Great video, as always xx
You made some great points. I did a major decluttering last month. I took my time to make sure that I was making the right decision in whether or not to keep an item. I don’t want to waste money on buying the same or similar items again.
Great tips as an ex hoarder I've learned that it's a life long journey dealing with our things. I think looking within ourselves and asking questions, "What does organization look like for me?" or "Do I really need that thing?" are important. And the sometimes our trash becomes someone else's we just don't get to see it. 🤔
@@burberryclaretred6676 I understand. I think it's okay to hold onto our things sometimes to give us comfort. I think the most important thing is to know that those things you have are a physical manifestation of the memories you have that will always live within you ❤ 💙
I learned about what the Resale Boutiques & Charity Shops will take & won't take, when I started Decluttering! Resale (the High End one I use) takes things mostly based on the Style (date) Label, Season & Demand for those kinds of Items, as well as the room she has to display them on racks! All her items must be Dry Cleaned/Laundered, Wrinkle Free & on Hangers! The Charity Shop takes all kinds of Labels, but they must be in Good Condition, (no repairs) Clean & Preferably Pressed & on Hangers! I usually take things to the Resale Boutique & what she doesn't take, I take immediately to the Charity Shop! Bc that way I can't change my mind about keeping them or have to Store them again!
I said I had to go through some things in my basement recently and someone responded “if I haven’t used it in a year, I don’t sort. I just get rid of it.” And I was like “good for you.” That doesn’t work for me in the slightest. I think this is the dumbest rule. Especially when people say “if I haven’t used it in a year I don’t need it/I probably never will.” I have all sorts of beloved things they fall in and out of use in my life. I have a record player I’ve had since I was 5. I have a radio I haven’t used in quite some time as well. Do I use my record player every year? Nope. Do I get plenty of enjoyment out of it over the years? Yes. I might have something I need or want or that would be extremely useful that i just haven’t seen in a while… I might even need to get rid of some of the stuff that I HAVE used or looked at in the last year to make room for something more important that’s been neglected for too long. I have the blanket from when I was in high school and I didn’t use it for many years but it sure was a comfort after my mom died. When I need something for a *reason* (I need a bag for example…) I try to “shop my hoard” rather than buy something new. I do what to pare down but I don’t have a desire to “only have things I use ever day.” Let’s say you have a special family heirloom bowl you use on holidays but last year you didn’t use it for whatever reason… does that mean “well I must not need it.” That’s what you’d do if you followed a dumb one year rule. (And then you probably do a ton of rebuying) I think it’s better to consider things more thoughtfully than these “rules” that people think we so clever and actually taking your own needs and personality in mind. If I’ve got a large library of CDs (and a CD player) from over the years and I only listen to… 20 of them during any one year, yet I rotate through the years which 20 I’m listening too… then that’s what works for YOU. A lot of people would say get rid of all but 20… because these people have a short sighted mindset and maybe say “just buy new stuff”…. But not everything is always going to be available and their is plenty of value in listening to those old favorites *when you are in the season for them* so I might be going through a Springsteen season for a few years and then a Fleetwood Mac season another year. Obviously you hard to consider the cost of keeping storing cleaning protecting etc… but that doesn’t mean it’s never worth it. As you mentioned about “constantly buying and decluttering,” honestly it’s better to NOT have only the minimum and just rotate certain things in and out. If I’m grieving one year and don’t feel like playing my musical instrument that doesn’t mean I’ll never play it again. Etc… it’s perfectly fine if some things go in and out of use and back in. Rotating things in and out is way better than constant consumerism
Another lovely vlog thank you for sharing.so many ideas bouncing around. Time is tick away. I'm very grateful to have a large sorting area to break down the house pack when it arrives. I have now decided to look for a summer house in a warmer climate away from the northern winter so there will be that big declutter eventually. You are right about gifting to charities. Even sometimes they don't want it but most of us don't even think to ask. I'm no encouraging myself to think of what to do with my preloved items. Thank you for the challenge. Cheers from Melbourne Kim St Clair Melbourne 😊👩💼
*ANOTHER GREAT SHARE* Two of my decluttering mistakes are - Owning too much & Emotional Attachment. Yes, you're so right, resale boutiques now pick and choose but it's the charitable organizations who shocked me there was a time they would gladly accept almost all things but they too are very selective with what they are willing to receive... even your popular online resellers. Ohhh, the "Just In Case" items. This is the road I turned onto after I began to have remorse. TFS&I💛✨️
Also, the reason why you seldom see Art o the walls of content creators is because of copyright laws. If you like looking things that bring you joy an original work of can be purchased from a local gallery for considerably less than a designer handbag, dress or pair of shoes.
I sold My HyM coats i didnt like and i bought by impulse 5 years ago, i never wore them. I bought one of them in sales and now i sold it 50% plus, so i won money 😅 i suggest selling stuff we never wear
Love this, I agree 100%. I also love “Goodbye, Things” as inspiration. I agree with keeping a small capsule of “just in case” items. I wanted to declutter these at first but then I realized that since I already own the items and will likely use them in future, it makes sense to keep a few favorites. Since I don’t frequently wear these 8 or so items, I don’t count them part of my “core” wardrobe and that makes me feel better about keeping them around.🤍

Definitely! It’s easy to associate minimalism with owning nothing and I was certainly guilty of that at some point xx

I’m a hoarder even more so with holding onto memories of my marriage and the home I used to have
I hold onto my carpets and hope to use them again they have been taking up space in my physical space as well as my psychological space

It's so true that our things can start to own us if we're not careful xx

Do you keep all your packaging from things you have sold.
I usually pass them all to the new owners as I like them to have the whole package, but I do keep the packaging for the pieces I still own xx
Nice tips
Thanks a lot! It's always a delight to see you hre xx
