Dear Lisa, I'm in my early 30s and have hated makeup all through my 20s because I just didn't know what to do with it and disliked the whole beauty business. I recently discovered your videos, and the personality you manage to convey through the screen - the intelligence, the generosity and well-meaning, and complete artistry, has turned my worldview upside down. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos, for being how you are and sharing your knowledge with ordinary people. Very best of luck with the book and all your endeavours!
Lisa Eldridge is one of the only beauty gurus who tie together all different aspects of science, history, and eye tricking tips that you only really find when going to a very legit celebrity makeup artist, who never would share their tips to the public unless they decide to pay $500 for a makeup seminar. I'm so excited to receive your book! I literally thank god for some things this woman has taught me
In japan kawaii is like the biggest compliment among girls! we dont really say you're pretty or sexy ....kawaii is like the ultimate compliment!!! :) when they say you're kawaii it doesnt only mean you cute.. but it also means pretty and every nice thing that u can think of complimenting someone :) hahaha
Hi, I'm Japanese living in Tokyo. I've watched all your videos. It was funny that you found a powder that can be used for contouring at the drugstore here, while I was trying to import something from Sephora in US. I have to look more carefully at drug stores. LOL Thank you for featuring Japanese products like this. It was fun watching those familiar products from your perspective! xo
+Nami Swan Hello! I'm really sorry to ask this way but I am moving to Tokyo in two weeks and I have been told that waxing - as hair removal treatment - is not so common in Japan and it's hard to find beauty salons that do that. Do you think there's any chance to find any in Tokyo? Thank you so much! xx
+Karlie B It's better to buy one at drug store. I just googled online for you, Brazilian wax for example costs about $80 for both arms, $30 for underarms etc. yes waxing isn't common at salons but permanent removals are.
Hi Nami dear :-) Just a question, I hope you don't mind. When girls do their makeup in Japan, do they contour their face? It is quite common in Australia ^^ I was just curious ^^
I am so proud of you! Not just because of your book, but because of all the things you accomplished so far... being the creative director of two of the biggest makeup companies in the world, having an incredibly succesfull youtube channel, being the makeup artist of loads of supermodels and celebrities, not to mention the professional recognition for all your hard work. You truly are inspiring and enpowering to women!
"I wrote a book.. on the HISTORY OF MAKEUP" I screamed. Fainted. And woke again. Well, not really, but my heart is beating so fast. Lisa. I'm so happy for you. Congratulations again and again! I'm SO EXCITED. SOO SOOO SOO EXCITED.
Also very true on the eye products in Japan. The makeup stays on very well because they've been designed to endure the high humidity of Japanese summers/monsoon seasons. One of the first eye shadows I ever used was Canmake and I still prefer it over all other brands to this day. Same with mascaras, Cle de Peau and the Majolika Majorka ones are my absolute fav, I've tried many mascaras in Europe for years but nothing works as well as those two. Also the many innovations they do like the ink cartridge liquid eyeliners (I use the one by Surratt which I believe was created with Japanese engineering).
erin ireland Lisa makes it look great and subtle but Japanese makeup can DEFINITELY be over the top. Overly huge eyes and overly pale skin are some of the "makeup sins" I've seen people commit when trying to emulate that style
I'm an American expat living in the Tokyo area and I've lived in Japan for about 8 years now. I'm slowly but surely going native with most things in life here, but I've struggled with cosmetics. Always importing my foundation, or sticking to international brands because I was scared the local stuff wouldn't work for my skin tone. And with the sheer number of choices and my limited Japanese I was so intimidated and didn't know where to start. I've purchase several of the items you recommended and have been so happy with the results. Thank you so much!! Oh, and I read your book. It was great!
Every time you said "kawaii", my heart melted. I love all of your videos especially when you talk about different cultures from makeup perspective. So looking forward to getting your book! Congratulations!
Awww I miss Japan so much! I lived in Okinawa in my teens from '94-'98. Such a beautiful place full of culture and the nicest people. I loved it so much!
She looks so beautiful in this style of makeup! I love what all these colors and the lashes do for her beautiful, warm, brown eyes. This just might be the most radiant of Lisa's looks ever. So pretty on her.
Most makeup artists have tons and tons of makeup and they do tutorials but you actually look into the history of makeup and your videos are so perfect and detailed , and your the BEST mua I've seen xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Finally a youtuber/REAL make up artist who comes up with an interesting book idea haha, can't wait to see it !! You're such an inspiration and I'm really happy for your success xx
You are seriously a master of your craft. You have the ability to capture certain subtleties that differentiate one makeup style from another. All while keeping it wearable and not straying into costume-y territory. This kind of just blew my mind! xx
Thank you SO MUCH for doing this tutorial! I'm Japanese but their makeup products never really worked for me, and this video shows me exactly what I should buy! Everything you say about Japan is also impressively accurate and spot-on lol. One thing I would mention is that Jill Stuart's pink powder blushes are extremely popular there. The dollier, the better!
I need to pause this to tell you how extremely excited I am about your book, Lisa! Dying to read it, I know already that it's going to be of an incredibly high standard in every regard, because it's you X
So beautiful. You're such an amazing and inspiring artist. I greatly appreciate finding someone who (finally) did this right and with great explanations. It's always such a pleasure to watch your videos.
Lisa, it is amazing to see how exuberant you are about your book - you just beam :) How exciting for you to add author to your extensive list of talents! I'm incredibly excited for you. I'm also thrilled to see another video. I'm not going to lie, I let out a small squeal of excitement each time you post a new one. Many congratulations on the book!
I'm Japanese and it was funny Lisa talked about a photo booth in Japan (we call "purikura", abbr. of "print club"). As Lisa said, recently the machine makes our eyes look much bigger as well as our legs look much thinner and longer ! lol I'm around 30 and most people of my age or higher feel we are like a kind of monster in a purikura photo.
Hi Lisa, I`ve been obsessing over your videos and I know you are a great makeup artist. But this video just shows that your talent and knowledge are incomparable. Ive been living here in Japan as a foreign student for almost 3 years now, and everything you said in this video are true. Im in awe, sugoi(amazing)! When I first arrive here I repulse the thought of makeup but living here has changed me. Makeup is such a big part of everyday Japanese life, in fact one can be considered unprepared if she shows up in the office and more especially in job interview without anything on.
Amazing Lisa!!! Just 5 minutes ago I was on amazon looking for Makeup books to get inspired and now that I know there'll be a Lisa book I can't wait to get my hands on it!!!! I'm so excited for you!!!!
I couldn't stop smiling while watching this video. Lisa, you are so beautiful and such a huge inspiration to all of us! Congrats on your book, I know it is going to be a success bringing a new chapter to your life and a new step in your career. Happy to hear that you are going to post more videos, I really missed them. So happy to follow you for a few years now and hope for more and more in the future. You bring so much confidence and self-respect to your followers, I just love you for beeing you. Thank you so much for what you do. It means a lot!
It's just really nice to see that Lisa as a makeup artist is willing to go and explore the trends and styles of different countries. The fact that she puts all the times and efforts in searching and getting behind every new thing she learned makes her channel so fun and informative. Thank you Lisa.
What a beautiful and simple look. It seriously took years off, even with you already looking so young and fab. So young and fresh a pretty. And those lashes on you! They looked incredible!! Can't wait for your book! Lots if love from Canada!
I'm so excited that you're releasing a book. I've always loved all the information you give in your tutorials and I think I've watched the two part makeup-history series you did more times than I can count!
I can't wait to read your book, it's going to be a dreamy journey of a job I wish I chose... Your videos are already a brilliant preview. Thanks for keeping me dreaming ✨
I don't usually comment. However one thing I would love for upcoming videos would be a chatty video with a celebrity/model or people that come into your studio. For example I loved hearing some of Alex's Chung's favourite products are. Too be honest I'd love to here that celebrities don't all use £200 foundations and eyeliners made of gold. That they do love things that us normal people can buy too 😆😊
lisaeldridgemakeup I am absolutely in love with this look!found myself hypnotized by your eyes the lashes are amazing! Can't wait for your book- I totally want it ever since I watched your video about the history of make up. You are my hero, lisa ♥
I love how you executed this look. I like how you observed your environment and the people while you were in Japan and you strategically created a makeup look based on your "research". I feel like that's what draws me to your videos because you conduct yourself very professionally and your makeup looks always have a rhyme, reason, and purpose. I really admire people like that!
I loved this look and how you explained everything. Asian makeup is so interesting because the style is so different from our western standards. I prefer this cute and innocent look over the heavily contoured one everytime. But I think you confused Ganguro, which is a very specific style, that nowadays mostly died out with Gyaru (which means girl :D). These styles have the same roots and there exist many substyles, but the overall name is Gyaru :3
Can't wait for your book! Your passion is so inspiring. I'm not even an MUA but I share your passion for makeup as a true art and I love how you present it to the world.
I watch "Kawaii International" here in the US. They've done episodes on how makeup styles have evolved. Some looks are a bit shocking, especially from an American perspective. If you have access to NHK World, I suggest watching the show. There's certainly a significant difference in terms of how long Japanese women stress dressing/appearing kawaii. I think, from a sociological perspective, it's interesting that teens and young women in Japan are encouraged (from either internal or external pressure) to be cute rather than mature or powerful. It's fascinating.
What a lovely fresh look. Wonderful to see how excited you are. Lisa, I remember you mentioning a few times you have a makeup collection and that you've shown a couple things in the Marilyn Monroe video I think. It would be super to have a collection tour or highlights video(s) in conjunction with your book release.
Hi Lisa, this Aube brand is pronounced ''awb'' (well something like that) it means 'dawn' and Visée is pronounced ''vizé'' ! All these Japanese brands have French names ! I can't wait for your book to come out xxxx
If it helps Aube is more like the O in flow. It would read more like ohb, with a drawn out o. "Au" in French makes an o sound :) (think obi-wan Kenobi kind of sound!)
***** I was trying to dumb it down, since most people can't read IPA. Mostly just trying to avoid people pronouncing it like "owl". But hey thanks anyway.
Roxane Paradis Sorry, I wasn't trying to be obnoxious, it's just a pet peeve of mine when someone tries to explain a sound by comparing it to another sound in a language where the first sound isn't actually represented. :) Or is it? I can't think of any English words with that sound. Also, seeing the abbreviation IPA makes me want beer!
LOVED this tutorial with all the background Japanese information you chose to share. There's truly only ONE Lisa Eldridge and we are all so very lucky to have YOU in our 'beauty' lives. Also, congrats on the book; I will DEFINITELY be buying it!
I can't wait for your book to come out and I'm sooo happy that you are going to post more often again - I love your videos, the looks are all so beautiful AND wearable, can't wait to see more!
So excited to see your book!!! Congratulations. Adore every video you have ever made, and your entire philosophy towards makeup and cosmetics in general!
I can't wait for the book! Glad for you that you got the opportunity to create one, and it's going to be so amazing to read it! Makeup history is so interesting, and you must know so much.
The thing I love the most is that you are the most nonjudgmental person ever!! and it's so genuine. You can talk about all these quite different makeup trends and looks and not make a single judgement or negative inference :) you just seem like such a lovely person, so excited for your book xx
I made this awful squealing noise when you said you're writing a book. I squealed even louder when you said it's going to be about history of make up. Make up and history are my two favourite things in the world, I can't wait for the book to be published!
I'm so excited for your book and have signed up for the newsletter. I have every confidence the book is excellent because your passion for and knowledge of the subject is so evident. Don't be nervous! I really enjoy these videos about makeup from other cultures. It would also be lovely to see looks from different eras as well to tie in with the book release. I plan on preordering as soon as the option is available!
So excited for your book! I first saw your videos on the history of makeup and vintage makeup collection, I've been a fan ever since! You are hands down the best! ❤️
I always feel good after watching your makeup tutorial videos because your theme is enhancing the beauty of women instead of the rampant videos of women beauty gurus who use makeup to look like drag queens.
I love the look! I love that simply and natural makeup, with super long lashes, the soft and feminine blush, that perfect lip color... Super girly! Definitely my kind of makeup!
Can't wait for your book! Already have it pre-ordered on Amazon. So proud of you! I'm writing a book now myself so I know what an achievement it is to complete one. Loved your article on In The Gloss, too. Check it out ladies at inthegloss.com! You do look like an adorable anime doll with those lashes!
I love watching your international haul videos, theyre always so informative of the history and revolution of beauty! Congratulations on your book, sounds like you put so much heart and hard work into it! xx
I LOVE your book cover! It's theatrical, edgy and absolutely stunning. It showcases both your talent and aesthetic. It's brilliant!!! I can not wait to get a copy of it!
Would love to see you do a bohemian/grunge look Lisa. Something that wouldn't look out of place on a Free People model. I'd love to know the best products for doing something like that.
Its so fascinating hearing about different cultural connotations and appreciations for colour and textures. Excited to hear about your book and cannot wait for its release. I am in awe of your ability to juggle so many projects/jobs as well as having a family and a life. What an inspiration! As always thanks for sharing :)
You look SO adorable in the thumbnail, I actually squealed out loud :) Congrats on the book Lisa, it's amazing news! PS - My dream came true when I saw you on Into The Gloss, it was fab! Check it out everyone if you haven't yet :)
Lisa Eldridge I was, and I will always be! I can't believe you remember this, I'm very honoured :) A big hug from Paris (*hoping to bump into you at City Pharma one day* :) and special ear-scratches to your furry friends Melissa xxxxx
I'm so excited for your book Lisa! Congratulations. I love how passionate you are about your work. It really comes through in all your videos how much you love what you do and I'm sure your book will be an extension of that. X
I can't stop watching your videos. I remember feeling this way about pixiwoo videos before they got annoying and boring. You're so much more chic than pixiwoo and I'm all about it.
+Tara Milano Lisa just seems more chic and professional to me. I feel like she's here to actually teach, which I can't always say for pixiwoo. I feel like they just put on makeup while this channel explains the process and the "how" and "why" better. Also, I understand product placement and trying to make a dollar but ONLY using real technique brushes gets old. These may not be good reasons to like one channel over another but that's how I see it in my head.
+Blake Knight I totally agree! I'm so glad that there are men who really appreciate, and respect the prestige behind makeup artistry. I'm betting you are better at makeup than 70% of the girls who see on social media.
I'm so very excited for you Lisa! Looking forward to getting your email this Sunday! This was a lovely look and I tremendously enjoyed hearing your joy as you shared about history, color, culture/style/ makeup variations, etc. Also, can't wait to see the blog posts with more of the products, lashes, and such. I really love these types of videos that you do for us. What a pleasure it will be to purchase your book. Blessings to you, your family, and all your future endeavors. You are fabulous! ~ Melody
What I adore about Lisa is that she never or rarely says that a makeup look is ugly - she is just interested in trends in a very objective scientific way actually. Intruiged by all the trends, she really just serves it to us and we can be the judges of what we want. I am in awe by the wonderfull approach to the makeup styles - no stereotypes, no judging, just pure explanation!
Lisa isnt merely a makeup artist - shes a makeupexpert - a makeup scientist!
She reminds me of my science teacher actually...

FlutterGiirl I know its funny, they sort of double in size lol X
Lisa Eldridge They really do! :)
Stunning 🤩
Hi, I'm Japanese living in Tokyo. I've watched all your videos.
It was funny that you found a powder that can be used for contouring at the drugstore here, while I was trying to import something from Sephora in US. I have to look more carefully at drug stores. LOL Thank you for featuring Japanese products like this. It was fun watching those familiar products from your perspective! xo
I was looking for a Japanese girl's opinion here! Very useful seeing this look from your perspective too. Thanks.
+Nami Swan Hello! Hi Nami dear :-)
Just a question, I hope you don't mind.
When girls do their makeup in Japan, do they contour their face? It is quite common in Australia ^^
I was just curious ^^

Also very true on the eye products in Japan. The makeup stays on very well because they've been designed to endure the high humidity of Japanese summers/monsoon seasons. One of the first eye shadows I ever used was Canmake and I still prefer it over all other brands to this day. Same with mascaras, Cle de Peau and the Majolika Majorka ones are my absolute fav, I've tried many mascaras in Europe for years but nothing works as well as those two. Also the many innovations they do like the ink cartridge liquid eyeliners (I use the one by Surratt which I believe was created with Japanese engineering).
The Japanese makeup look has to be my favorite makeup look! Very elegant and not over the top

Love seeing the distinction between korean and japanese makeup looks!
Congratulations and can't wait for your new book!!!

The book sounds amazing!! I loved your Biba tutorials and would love to know more of the historical side. Can't wait! Xx
That look was indeed kawaii! So pretty. I will be checking out the cover!
Congratulations! I remember way back when you showed antique makeup you were collecting. Was beautiful and fascinating. Looking forward to your book!

Hi Lisa, this Aube brand is pronounced ''awb'' (well something like that) it means 'dawn' and Visée is pronounced ''vizé'' ! All these Japanese brands have French names ! I can't wait for your book to come out xxxx
Chloé Delegrange thanks youre a star! X
If it helps Aube is more like the O in flow. It would read more like ohb, with a drawn out o. "Au" in French makes an o sound :) (think obi-wan Kenobi kind of sound!)
Roxane Paradis It doesn't, actually AU in french is the sound [o], while the O in FLOW or OBI is pronounced [əʊ].
Those eyelashes are incredible! X
This is so exciting- I'm thrilled you are going to release a book, but even more so a history of makeup sounds educational and GREAT!
This book is actually one I'm considering buying from a youtuber
I can't wait to get my hands on your book. Your experience & industry knowledge is inspiring!
Congratulations on the book Lisa. It sounds fabulous. I just signed up on your mailing list and can't wait for the preview. ♥ Elle
I am so happy you have a book! I will definitely get it!
I love asian packaging, especially Japanese. Also love Hello Kitty
I can't wait for your book to come out and I'm sooo happy that you are going to post more often again - I love your videos, the looks are all so beautiful AND wearable, can't wait to see more!
Im going to japan today and thanks for the tips!
So excited to see your book!!! Congratulations.
Adore every video you have ever made, and your entire philosophy towards makeup and cosmetics in general!
Makes you look ten years younger!
I can't wait for the book! Glad for you that you got the opportunity to create one, and it's going to be so amazing to read it! Makeup history is so interesting, and you must know so much.
Foundation price... I'm shoked ))
Omg my mouth never dropped open before like that. Insane!!!
Deltinka I totally agree. As a teacher that is my take home pay for one day. Foundation should not be that costly.
I shudder to think what that would be converted to Australian currency! OUCH
Deltinka 85$ USA amazon.. not for me
Deltinka there are more expensive foundations than this one in japan....the most expensive one i know is about us$200
The thing I love the most is that you are the most nonjudgmental person ever!! and it's so genuine.
::takes notes like a studios student::
So excited for your book! I first saw your videos on the history of makeup and vintage makeup collection, I've been a fan ever since! You are hands down the best! ❤️
I always feel good after watching your makeup tutorial videos because your theme is enhancing the beauty of women instead of the rampant videos of women beauty gurus who use makeup to look like drag queens.
Love this makeup look soooo cute!! Those packaging of the lipsticks so nice. Looking forward to reading your book. Xx
Study for finals< watch Lisa
I love the look! I love that simply and natural makeup, with super long lashes, the soft and feminine blush, that perfect lip color... Super girly! Definitely my kind of makeup!
Can't wait for your book! Already have it pre-ordered on Amazon. So proud of you! I'm writing a book now myself so I know what an achievement it is to complete one. Loved your article on In The Gloss, too. Check it out ladies at inthegloss.com! You do look like an adorable anime doll with those lashes!
micapetey Omg, I didn't know it was already available for pre-order... going to Amazon now!!! And yes, the ITG Top Shelf was so great.
micapetey ditto, going to Amazon, thx for letting us know.
jennifer Me too! So excited for the book to come out :-) XO
I love watching your international haul videos, theyre always so informative of the history and revolution of beauty! Congratulations on your book, sounds like you put so much heart and hard work into it! xx
What I wouldnt give to have Lisa do my makeup, just once - and tip me what I should own - which brushes what products
As always thanks for sharing :)
you will love tsubasa masuwaka so much she's the creator of dollywink and candydoll
I bought this foundation yesterday.
It's so amazing.
You look SO adorable in the thumbnail, I actually squealed out loud :)
Congrats on the book Lisa, it's amazing news!

mgparis thank you, you were one of my first subscribers! X
Lisa Eldridge I was, and I will always be! I can't believe you remember this, I'm very honoured :)
A big hug from Paris (*hoping to bump into you at City Pharma one day* :) and special ear-scratches to your furry friends
Melissa xxxxx
I'm so excited for your book Lisa! Congratulations. I love how passionate you are about your work. It really comes through in all your videos how much you love what you do and I'm sure your book will be an extension of that. X
I can't stop watching your videos. I remember feeling this way about pixiwoo videos before they got annoying and boring. You're so much more chic than pixiwoo and I'm all about it.
Why did they get boring and annoying? I'm just curious, I don't watch them much I just wonder what they do differently now than before 😊
+Tara Milano Lisa just seems more chic and professional to me.
~ Melody
i would love to see this look on an actual Japanese
rosewatersaffron ok you got me, I am an art history student and going to def purchase your book
your eyes and your eye make up look so perfect!
You remind me of Lady Mary Crawley :)
I am very excited for your book to hit the shelves, I LOVE to read about the history of cosmetics, brands, trends, etc.
