There is something about the Mini that I just cant explain.
Way back in 1961 as an 19 year old I bought a Morris Mini Cooper, (2333 ML) and whilst driving it down in the New Forest a Mini came up behind me and flashed his headlamps at me. The race was on. I could not believe that he could keep up with me and on a straight stretch, he overtook me and started pulling away. I flashed him and he pulled into a lay bye where I quizzed him on the car. Turned out, his mini was the Downton Test bed mini.
Nice to see these being uploaded! Can't wait for the 1970 Ford Transit Mk1 Diesel to be uploaded, that's a great episode.

My first car was this two door Mini Austin. Strong, Roomy and easy to drive.

My first car was a 1964 Mini with a standard 850 sliding windows. Converted it to 1300 twin cab, quarter race camshaft. Sold it after a couple of years..regret it. What a great car.
Just bought a superb 1991 Mini Cooper here in the UK - last of the carb models before they went all fuel injection and computers.

It does seem a long time, but, I started rebuilding my Riley elf about 35 years ago, it's still in my garage part done!

my first two cars were minis, both automatics, first mini didn't like wet weather, always difficult to start, second one was completely different very reliable, yet the first one I had from new, second one I bought was second hand.
Feels a little like Wheeler Dealers. I like Ant but really miss Edd. Don't miss Mike.

Where do you get the spare parts? The early model of Honda Civic looks very alike to Mini Cooper.

I bought a s/h Mk1 998cc Cooper in 1968, I used it live in London so I took it to Downton Engineering to have it tuned, they had a branch in South Kensington in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Having a look at the parts laid out on Ant’s garage floor, one thing for sure it didn’t have a Downton exhaust manifold and it wasn’t an original one either, the one fitted to that Cooper is a right heap of junk. Who ever fitted the head lining in the car has made a complete dogs dinner of it - looks awful.

In the experiment about kids choosing their favorite car, I think they followed other kids to choose, it wasn’t their election. If you ask privately each kid to choose, the results would been very different.

Most parts are fairly cheap, so can't be all that much. Welding and painting would be the highest cost of a project like this

I admit to being an originality pedant, but those wheels are not factory original, neither is the steering wheel and I don’t see the point of trying for as much originality as possible and then putting in obvious after market product. But they have done a nice job. My 1968 Mark 2 Cooper S is as original as I can make it, back to when it was when it was assembled in Blackheath, Cape Town

28.09 the first British Car to sell over 1 million was the Morris Minor in 1961 not the Mini in 1965. Where did he get that fact from.
They are asking $9to 10 grand for mini K;s In NSW Australia .
Yet a 2006 cooper with an EP problem is $3500 go figure the minis were sold at a loss by British Leyland when i was doing my apprenticeship on them in 1973 they went up to 1000.00 pounds !,
Should have included the auction to complete the story.................

I found an old mini cooper, the engine was still ok, but can't start! I worked on it 2 years and one morning I get in, turn the key and hear the engine working again!🥹🥹🥹
