  • Good Hello Everyone.
Friday, 08 March 2024, was the first time I had ever set foot into the Western Cape.
I flew from JHB to George, got in a car and drove to Knysna.
From the get-go, I was blown away by the natural beauty of George!
I had an incredible drive down to Knysna, where upon arrival, I was greeted with one of the most spectacular views I have ever laid my eyes on... The Knysna River.
We were staying in a place on the river called Yellow Wood Cove, with some long time family friends.
I was itching to get a line in, so shortly after unpacking, my Dad and I tied on some artificial lures and headed down to the jetty.
It was a slow start... I decided to walk down the stunning pebble beach, in the hopes of finding some slightly deeper water.
When I found an area that I believed to be promising, I worked that spot until dark.
Just before the sun disappeared over the horizon, I got my first ever shad on artificial.
Shortly after that, with the tide being so low, we decided to explore the tide-pools at night in the hopes of seeing some Octopus.
We did not have to look around for too long before we found our first little Octopus.
I fell in-love with how majestic they appear in the water. They move so swiftly and graciously.
I'm 100% sure I fell in-love with Octopus on this night. They have jumped the ranks to my favorite sea creature, knocking dolphins out of top spot.
I saw star-fish, cuttlefish, octopus, cleaner shrimp, hermit crabs, bioluminescent plankton and thousands of different fish species.
After 2 hours of so of tide-pool exploring, we decided to begin our Shark Mission.
Let me tell you this... As soon as I hooked my shark, I instantly knew that this would be the biggest fish i had ever caught... and it was!
I have never fought a fish so powerful, so resilient! It would just not give up!
By the end of the fight, my arms felt like I had just come out of the gym!
I have a huge respect for these stunning sea creatures. No words can explain the feeling I felt when I was in Knysna. A mixture of joy, peace, tranquility and appreciation filled my body.
I had no idea places with such beauty and diverse sea life, existed in this country.
My first day in the Western Cape was one that will forever be hard to beat!
I will see you next week for part 2.
    Thank you for watching!
