I can only think of how alone Martin Luther felt standing against who wanted him dead. And yet these words followed that lonely stand. "Here I stand. I cannot recant. I can do no other." He loved people well.
First time to see this video. One of the best performances of all time I think. No drums, lights and gizmos. I listened to Steve Green growing up. This can be our common song when standing together everywhere.
A mighty fortress is our God A bulwark never failing Our helper He amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe His craft and power are great And armed with cruel hate On Earth is not his equal Did we in our own strength confide Our striving would be losing Were not the right man on our side The man of Gods own choosing You ask who that may be Christ Jesus, it is He Lord Saboth His name From age to age the same And he must win the battle And through this world with devils filled Should threaten to undo us We will not fear For God hath willed His truth to Triumph through us The prince of darkness grim We tremble not for him, his rage we can endure For lo, his doom is sure One little word shall fell him That word above all earthly powers No thanks to them, Abideth The spirit and the gifts are ours Through Him who with us sideth Let goods and kindred go This mortal life also The body they may kill, Gods truth abideth still His kingdom is forever His kingdom is forever His kingdom is forever His kingdom is forever and ever
All Glory be to God Almighty !!! . . . Breath-taking rendition perfectly executed !! Chills ! ! ! . . . ~ ~ ~ "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures: And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures" 1 Cor.15:1- 4

Castillo fuerte es nuestro Dios!!!... Pude escucharlo desde pequeño... thanks Martín Luther, thanks Steve... and thank you for all my God!!!... Dios bendiga a toda su creación!!! Saludos desde Lima-Perú
Back from an era when people didn't know what to do with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in worship :(. As Steve unfolds these 400 year old words of prophetic truth, as the Holy Spirit fills them with power and righteousness, how could the people there remain seated or quiet??? When at the end of the third verse, the words are "One Little WORD shall fell him", one of the most beautiful lyric foreshadowing if a final verse ever - how did people not rise to their feet and cheer??? But no...they were more about listening to the performance of a fine voice than listening to the shouting and singing of angels as they rejoiced and celebrated around Steve Green.
Or, as I was, they were in awe of the words and wanted to reflect on them and let them wash over them. Got off your high horse about how others worship.
@@KennethSee Maybe. I wish it were so for everyone. As a full time Pastor of worship now and back then, my experience was that a large percentage of people of that era approached things like this as performances of a favorite artist rather than as offerings of worship. The music and the presentation was designed to elicit attention and admiration for the performer. Helps to sell the merch! Its still an issue today, it just looks differently. I have worked with a lot of these artists, almost all of them wonderful Christian men and women. Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Sandy Patti, etc. But they were a product of the culture, and at that time we just didn't know what to do with the exploding "Sacred Pop" music genre (which I have no problem with, when its in its proper place). Sort of against the grain, Steve Green did this a cappella performance of a mighty fortress. IMO, its annointed, powerful and beautifully conceived and done, and puts the focus squarely on the story of God's Amazing strength and love. I am so overwhelmed by its truth and simplicity, that when those powerful words of victory are proclaimed, I know I wouldn't be able to NOT respond in some way, even if to stand in silence, or to fall on my face in light of the poverty of my own state and the enormous grace of God. My apologies if I;m wrong about this particular performance, though I've seen it many times for many decades, and saw Steve do it live. I'm commenting more on what I remember about that era and the cognitive dissonance we often lived with.
Hmmm people have different responses, you know. Look at the demographic. White, mostly 30++ in the 80s. Not exactly the "Go head, sang it, boy!" crowd. The first time I watched this, I scarcely blinked, mouth open, hanging on to every word. I didn't cheer (and I'm black LOL). You can't presume what people felt, sensed, or how they *should* react. Come on. And he got a standing ovation to boot. I think they were captivated.
Since your majesty and your lordships desire a simple reply, I will answer without horns and without teeth. Unless I am convinced by scripture and plain reason --I do not accept the authority of popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other -- My conscience is captive to the Word of God.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Now this is a Super Bowl Halftime Show I would actually watch. Can you see it? Glorious.

I feel and see that he songs from his heart amazing acapella. Glory to God
An amazing singer who sings from the heart given by God
The most spirit filled rendition of this song. Bless the Lord for giving Steve that voice to bless our worship with God
I am always amazed at how high the key is for this song. Steve Green is just wow.
I don't dispute that at all. however, it was a lot more rare 30 or 40 years ago. The science of vocal range has become more common place
Christianity will never be about popularity! Giving praises to the Lord in voice is a gift! Thank you for sharing this video! Powerful words and song!
I dare anyone to find a more powerful performance of this treasured hymn of the Christian faith!

O Steve Green dessa época foi o melhor cantor que eu já ví, um cantor gospel lírico.

This song is just perfect.
I love your song so much god bless you
A mighty fortress is our God
A bulwark never failing
Our helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe
His craft and power are great
And armed with cruel hate
On Earth is not his equal
Did we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing
Were not the right man on our side
The man of Gods own choosing
You ask who that may be
Christ Jesus, it is He
Lord Saboth His name
From age to age the same
And he must win the battle
And through this world with devils filled
Should threaten to undo us
We will not fear
For God hath willed His truth to
Triumph through us
The prince of darkness grim
We tremble not for him, his rage we can endure
For lo, his doom is sure
One little word shall fell him
That word above all earthly powers
No thanks to them, Abideth
The spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth
Let goods and kindred go
This mortal life also
The body they may kill, Gods truth abideth still
His kingdom is forever
His kingdom is forever
His kingdom is forever
His kingdom is forever and ever
who writes songs like that today, God help us and send us Holy Spirit revival.
Glory to God!!!

It's called respect and reverence.

I bet the devil trembled at this moment
Ugh! He was a tad flat at 2:29
Ruined the entire thing.
Red meat theology!
Awful
