    Allegations of theft against someone who works with seniors can be catastrophic to that person's business. It is crazy that anyone involved with services to seniors would risk such an accusation as this video indicates. It's just not theft but also credit card fraud and possibly other crimes. Some states specifically bar individuals who have been convicted of fiduciary crimes from working with elders. I predict that in the long run, this situation is going to cost Ossen a lot more than 5300 bucks he ripped off.

    Reguarding the VC overseas limited edition: I think the difference is provenance, in that you pay $25k for the watch and $500k for the back story. Provenance is usually the reason these watches go for skyscraper prices. 2000 people have the watch, but only one of them has the story.

    Regarding stolen watches, we've all seen what happened even among popular watch youtubers, where they purchased watches and promised to pay after receiving the watches, but they never intended to pay them afterwards. Or they received watches for reviews and then "forgot" to return them back. That's just sick and these people, together with the "investors", are ruining this watch community.

    A buddy of mine lost a PP. Received bank wire from a buyer on FB. He shipped the watch. Bank reversed the wire transaction after 3 days. Watch was delivered by FedEx next day. His mistake he did not notice shipping destination was a convenience store that provided parcel pickup service and not a home address.

  • @BabyJesus66

    All forum/reddit sellers seem to say they only accept friends and family or crypto. A lot of them don't want to pay income tax on the sales of the watches and with the new tax laws that can only be avoided with F&F payments or crypto. But I agree it's very dumb to send a stranger $10k with no buyer protection no matter what their reputation is. You could be the transaction they decide to break from their reputation.

    • @GuyNarnarian
      @GuyNarnarian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to do for buyers if you are not purchasing a watch in person, when the seller will only accept a bank wire, or what you describe above, etc.. Still have to buy the seller over the watch, even if its a rare grail and you have to wait longer. I've never bought from T&H but I have inquired, and they were certainly cordial. I think I passed because they didn't have any movement pics (which to be fair, are hard to get from almost any seller and that should change, this was a few years ago). I'm wondering exactly how these guys scammed T&H by using a credit card, my guess is it wasn't in their name, probably a phony business or something. Definitely interested to hear what happened.

    • @BabyJesus66
      @BabyJesus66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ugh man, i’m so sorry that happened. The main lesson I learned from my time in law enforcement is that bad people do bad things to good people every single day, and that’s never not going to be the reality of life. Even the people in your life that you consider to be good people, some of them surrounding you are just bad people and the only incentive they need to stab you in the back is the opportunity.

  • @ParisGentlemandriver

    Just a slight precision on the two Everest Overseas, they are actually limited to 150 pieces each, and only allocated to serious existing VC customers. In this conditions, I’d say that this doesn’t diminish by any means the value of the piece unique, these are so rare and limited that you’d hardly ever come by another one. Also the RRP for the dual time is technically 25k$, it’s definitely not available to the general public at that price …I’d guess that if ever one shows up on the second hand market it’ll be multiples of that RRP. Let’s put that into perspective, the DT Everest is rarer than the Tiffany Nautilus !

As the "worse case scenario guy" in my business, I'm always hyper-vigilant... and to be honest... it's sometimes exhausting but I sleep better at night (maybe because I'm exhausted). You folks are in a tough business, I tip my hat to T&H! Great story, Christian.

    Robbed here, on 3 separate occasions. 1 met a bumble girl had her over… when she arrived it became clear she was a “pro” I asked her to leave and she was pissed she wasn’t getting paid. A week later she texted me apologizing and said she was meeting a friend nearby but her friend was late and she had nowhere to wait (it was freezing and raining), I let her wait in my living room with me until letting her know I had to leave, she followed me out and must have just put a card in the door or something so it didn’t auto lock like it should have. She doubles back and cleared out 80% of my collection including really special watches that I loved that were mildly valuable, and watches I had for investment that were extremely valuable including a pair of 6263 panda and reverse panda, a 15400 rose, a 15400 steel with blue and a 15500 white dial, a 39mm explorer, a Cermit (ceramic kermit), a rose DD with linen dial, 3 vintage tudors, and my personal favorite watches that I spent a ton of time and effort acquiring what I think was the only complete set in existence of Vintage Bulova royal oaks, white dial blue dial, two tone white dial, and gold and champagne dial. Don’t get me wrong losing hundreds of thousands in watches was traumatizing, but worse was when I found her on an escort service offered her 50,000k to bring them back and she said “i know you’re setting me up cus they were all fake and I could barely get 5000 for them. Obviously when she brought them to whoever he knew right away they were stolen and she had no idea what she had, so to think someone got all my watches by stealing from a thief that really sucks. Then I also got ripped off from chrono24 TWICE. Bought two Tudor snowflakes, one the guy edited the photos to change “Swiss made” on the dial to t Swiss t … if u don’t know a 7016 with a service dial isn’t worth 1/5th of one with an original, and 9401 turned out to have a replicated Tudor stamped 2842 I think is the movement - so yea it’s a lot easier to lose close to half a mill in watches than you’d think. Insurance helped but obviously I still took big losses, and worst of all I lost a lot of the passion for watches.

    The level of trust in the watch community is insane. Fortunately there’s an awesome forum in Canada with so many amazing trusted sellers/buyers. I’ve been there for 12 years and never a single scam resulting in a monetary loss.
    Best way to protect yourself is accept bank wires only. Even after seeing money deposited, call your bank and confirm it was a wire and not a third party in-branch deposit. Once a wire is accepted by the receiving bank and deposited, there’s virtually nothing the sender can do to get the money back.

Speaking of which, how about you do a video on how the industry has come to accept the outlandish commission structure where both Sellers & Buyers, as in the history of Antiquorum's early days when those commissions were actually acceptable given the small market & work involved for Antiquorum. @@EthanRom It’s supposed to protect the buyer in the case of fraud, but anymore it only helps to perpetrate fraud against sellers, by buyers. There’s not much they can do as sellers because, like they explained, it’s going to cost them twice as much to collect on it. This final resort by them is really the only thing they can do. Now the bad part is, this probably could open this guy up to a lawsuit from the Ossens (I am not a lawyer so I could be completely wrong buuut, with how things seem to be going these days, I could see it, sadly.) for harassment. I always go back and forth on returning everything I cleaned, but I can't risk the bad reviews, so I just simmer.

      Agree. While I wouldn’t design a watch with so much text, doesn’t bother me. And apparently it’s a high end watch we mortals can’t actually buy!

    Haven't watched Theo and Harris for a while....why does Christian look like a drug smuggler based out of 1960's Havana?

    Building a watch community is important. We have one in Shanghai where we meet and trade watches. Redbar Sh. I wouldn’t buy second hand watches from anyone who is not in that group.

    This comment is much newer than the video. Just fell into watch obsession, maybe in past two weeks. I have hobby addiction/obsession problems so in two weeks time I've absorbed more than most people would, what's the deal with an Oris Kermit watch(haven't locked onto many ref #s yet).
