glad you're back James . it was an injustice for taking your channel down . hurting the artists you featured and causing tremendous anguish amongst art lovers and fans of your wonderful channel and reporting . you're a great ambassador for the New York art scene and street musicians . we are blessed to have you back .
Good grief. I can’t believe hearing your channel was removed by TH-cam! Thankyou so much everyone for your efforts to get it back. You are so good at reviewing these shows. Just love what you do. Thank Kate!
Hi James, so glad you sorted your problems with TH-cam. As a painthead, I would miss your videos so much while working in my small studio in the South East of England. Thank you Rose
Was very alarmed to hear that you were banished from TH-cam which was completely outrageous but fortunately the art ground swell overwhelmed. Anecdotally, my father and uncle made stretchers for Barnett's large paintings in the late fifties or early sixties.
@jameskalm My father and uncle, Abram and Leo Schlemowitz, were both sculptors. My uncle, in the 50's, had a cabinet shop right in the middle of the 10th Street block between 3rd and 4th Avenue in an era when abstract expressionists became prominent and who also had studios on this block. If you were a successful member of this club, you stretched your canvas on a Schlemowitz stretcher, as did de Kooning, Kline, Resnick, and Newman. Resnick was so attached to his large Schlemowitz stretcher that whenever he sold a painting painted on that stretcher, the purchaser had to buy a replacement and return the original.
Nice you're back Loren. the report function on social media is not up to date..Ppl just abuse that function to hack your account and send out spam.. It just happened to me on fb and the fun part is that their system is so easily misdirected and they have zero customers service. that sais alot about where users are in this 'social media' platform. At least youtube has values, they always had. fb could learn from them! anyway ur back, that's whats important! Thanks kate!
Terrific show and the drawing of a hand story is a very interesting pass - fail concept...love it !! I wasn't aware of your .......struggles. You are so valuable !!! Thanks Kate.
Yes, archiving is important (and I've tried to archive as much as I can) but...without access from the broader public, the archives don't really exist.
Glad you could get your videos back on!! Shout out from east Tx. I'd wondered if Diao was using acrylic. I wondered if it may have been house paint acrylic. Good band too. Hoo ha, enjoyed the show.
So I was not stupid, when your channel disappeared around Christmas. What a present to the artworld that was! Horrible behaviour by YT, Google and Alphabet. Glad to see you back. Great show, video and work of yours. And as always, thank you, Kate!
Does anyone have a recommendation for the ideal Barnett Newman Catalogue? Also, for a collection of his theorising about art (art theory)? If I am not mistaken, he was a philosophy graduate. I am a great fan of his paintings, but have long been sceptical of his famous quote: "Aesthetics are for the artists what ornithology is for the birds". It is like saying that meteorology is superfluous to sailors. In any case, it is wonderful to learn about David Diao's work. It was not on my radar. Your channel is an unparalleled resource for the dissemination of the painted image at the cutting edge. Further, it is a unique and essential archive. I have learned a staggering amount through your work here (on par with what degrees offer), and I continue to return to early video. To say that it would be a travesty for it to be lost, would be a grave understatement. TH-cam would do well to preserve channels like this for their intrinsic value to cultural heritage, as opposed to whatever other prerogatives it has at play--financial or otherwise. I can't begin to imagine what kind of administrative convolution could have led to the taking down of your channel and the denial of your appeal. Totally and utterly bizarre and awe-inspiring. I hope there is work done to protect your archive beyond you, and TH-cam, well into the future. Thanks Kate.
Yes @anthonymorton3074 it's always gratifying to hear from viewers who have found the Kalm Report project of value. One never knows what lies ahead with these massive social media platforms, but I'm going to try to keep producing content until they drag me out in a box...Thanks JK
I don’t understand the mystical workings of Yootoob. Terminated on what grounds? I cannot imagine a reason. Anyway, I’m glad the channel survives. Onward!
Interesting exhibition! I know you do a lot of diagram type art JK, is there any essay or other reading on this style of art? I started into genealogy many years ago and these paintings today have given me some ideas I would like to explore with large format multi-generational text paintings. Glad you finally got your channel back! Thank you JK and Thank you Kate
I was in a great show last summer at Marlborough Gallery titled "Schema: World as Diagram", curated by Raphael Rubinstein and Heather Bause Rubinstein. Raphael wrote a wonderful essay on the concept of diagrams in art for the show, with lots of foot notes. That might be a good place to start...
Hey @michaelg9359 I'd love to get into "more realist/hyperrealist stuff", but I can't pull it out of thin air. All I do is cover what's being shown here in New York, and if galleries aren't showing it I can't record it, sorry...JK
@@jameskalmroughcut cool i was wondering that, actually - are you going to the main galleries in NYC ? I used to show in Jersey City, did a show at the old Chelsea Hotel in NY also ---
Because I'm still paranoid about being surveilled, I won't give the link but, if you go to Jerry Saltz's Instagram page on January 5, 2024, you can find a brief synopsis of the situation...JK

Wow, that's an interesting fact. Were they working for some art store, or freelancers?

Wow! I think it's time to archive the videos on a personal website. All of our archives are at risk on these platforms.

Yes, David is using acrylic, I think it's straight fine art paint, and vinal stick-on lettering.

James, I think you need to start doing interviews.
It wouldn't be a start, as I've done interviews for decades, but I need to do some more...(when I can catch the artists).
@@jameskalm It would be super interesting if you could do one with David Diao. I've seen one of his lectures and it's super interesting.
why was your channel stopped by youtube? whta was their reason
The reason given was that the channel violated community standards regarding "nudity and sexual content"...JK
How ridiculous!
They must not be fans of Zishy
