    And also the choreographies are made after the songs have been written and recorded so the person who's singing or rapping in the part is usually in the middle, taking his piece of spotlight. Another reason why the formations keeps changing and keeps the focus of the watcher on them.

      @@lindseymackail9350 Interesting trivia. All groups under HYBE are in odd numbers becos of this. When one is singing or rapping they will be flanked in balance. Like 3 on the left, 3 on the right. TxT (Tomorrow by Together) - 5 members. Enhypen - 7 members. I think Bang PD (the founder) & Son Song Deuk (main choreographer / performance director) mention this before about putting emphasis on the main singer or rapper at that moment and the beauty of the choreography.
      Also take note of some of the movements ( isolation, the technical terms, I think). They usually reflect the lyrics of the songs.
      That moment that you like, the English translation
      "Heartbeat pulsing slow in my ears
      Bump, bump, bump
      Trying to escape with no avail

      No song affects me anymore

    Lindsey Jin, RM, and Suga were not dancers when they started. Suga complained that he was tricked...he was told no dancing or singing (I think RM too). They've had to learn to dance from scratch. Sometimes they aren't as fluid or expressive in their dance as Hobi, Jimin or Jungkook. Props to them and their dance teachers...

    loved your breakdown! you saying that they're even breathing together really shook me for some reason lmao, I guess it makes sense that they would synch up like that after practicing so much, but I'd never thought about it before. also thank you for rewinding to show the clips, it was definitely really helpful for understanding 💜
    I see a lot of people recommending you react to their grammys performance from sunday & I agree! one of their members, Jin, has a hand injury so he didn't dance for half the song. also, some of the members had to isolate for COVID, so iirc they only had 1 day for all the group members to practice the final choreography together. after the show, they said that during practice they weren't able to do a certain move correctly more than like 1/3 of the time. it was a high risk performance for them lmao, would love to see your analysis on how they did all things considering!

    • @lindseymackail9350
      @lindseymackail9350  2 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      Im glad the breathing thing shook you. Its actually a pretty cool feeling when you really start jelling with people while dancing and just like singers we learn where we need to breathe and there is a big difference in a person inhaling than exhaling even in body movement so when you start wanting to look as one and rehearse to be so in sync, you start to go through the choreo and learn where to breathe to save your stamina, and also how to look even more like one. It also creates this energy together....kinda hard to explain bc its a feeling but I hope Im making sense ;) lol
      I will get on the Grammys!! I didn't know all that info tho so thank you

Jimin's body control is insane, so light and at the same time so precise that it feels like the movement of water and something very interesting is that even the members who don't consider themselves so strong in dance do an amazing job in performing the choreography. Can't wait for BTS's next reactions! Suggestions: ON Kinect Manifesto Film, Fake Love, Dyonisus at MMA 2019 and Dynamite at MMA 2020 (in this presentation they changed the original coreo and created a break dance in honor of MJ and it was freaking amazing).

    You also have to keep in mind, that the dance formations are usually centered around who is singing, not who is the stronger dancer. That is why they are always changing- to get the singer, front and center.

    • @lindseymackail9350
      @lindseymackail9350  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes I know that :) I am actually a performer/singer too and work with artist that I build their shows. The main singer at that moment always needs to be the focus so they will always be front and center while they sing bc that's their verse and moment etc but just from a dance position not dealing w singing that's how choreographers work it. And in that moment of them being center while they sing they don't have to be the best dancer or even fit in with them in the danced bc in that moment they are supposed to be the focus so sometimes we will have them do something completely diff than the others in that time too

    • @mnj97
      @mnj97 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s important to also know that they do have official positions in the group, just like RM is the “Leader”. Jungkook is the “Main Vocalist” and official “Center” (meaning he is usually in the Center the most throughout all of their choreographies). Their choreographer, Son Songdeuk, said “Jungkook is the most talented” and has “great power and strength” and he also said it is important to have an “official Center” because it helps to “give balance and a solid vibe to the team”. 💜 Of course they are all amazingly talented! One of the wonderful things about BTS is that they give each member their moments to shine in every song and in every choreography! 💜 Please react to the MMA 2020 performance of “Black Swan”, “An Introduction to the 7 members of BTS 2021 update” by Ida S, and their “Carpool Karaoke” episode! 😊💜

    I'm reacting to your reaction in the comments LOL ... I'm loving everything you're catching. I love when you talk about being able to "see" those who are feeling the dance! There are three dancers (Hobi, Jimin, and JK) who are "trained" and who I would call dancers. The others, while they can move and always bring it and work hard at their craft, are what I'd call, "singers who are dancing", if that makes sense? Their transitions and formations keep things moving and keep your eyes glued to the screen - this is indicative of kpop choreo. That slow-mo then HIT, especially because they're doing it turn, is so effective. Of course you're meant to watch the center person but the blocking is so amazing. Ok so that entry of the other 6 when Suga has his rap solo (around the 7 minute mark in your video), that area that you said they were "off" and lost you - I'm surprised a lot of choreographers have mentioned this because it's not meant to be on time and in sync. This is a throwback to the entry of swans in the actual ballet Swan Lake so they arrive in a wave, as swans. One of the things that makes BTS - and kpop in general - super special is that they are trained to incorporate dance and voice at super professional levels. I knew you'd love this dance practice video and am so glad you reacted!

      I know that the entry was supposed to be in a wave....and it was, it just still didn't look sharp enough for me tempo or rhythm wise between the guys.... the wave just looked a bit off and not as dynamic as it could have been in that moment...it cld have been anything that causes that to happen a half second stumble or going too high or low too quickly compare to the others. It was just not a strong moment for me bc it could have been tighter is all.

      I agree with Lindsey on this one, it's clear it's meant to be a ripple up and then back down, before they spin into the formation. Ripples extremely difficult to get right, and this one (two!) didn't quite mesh. You can tell the boys probably agreed, because it was cleaned up a lot after this in time for the Feb 27, 2020 Comeback Stage live performance of Black Swan, around 2:50 on the Mnet video. Since they fixed it, it's pretty clear that it was a rough spot for them that they then cleaned it up for when it counts- the show!
      For anyone counting at home, that's under a month away from this practice video, and even that small amount of time they show immense polishing and refinement from this dance practice video.

    • @nalani2553
      @nalani2553 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@octo448 love your comment, thank you! I just want to clarify that I wasn't saying it's meant to be messy. Lindsay stated it was off and not in sync, but not that she knew it was a ripple so I wanted to point out that that's what it was incase she wasn't aware (silly, I know, since she's a dance LOL). Since this is a practice video it won't be clean, unlike the MNET "lives" that are filmed over and over until it's as perfect as it can be. You're so right, they put in so much work since this practice to get it polished and refined and the PTD On Stage performance of this is crazy to see live!

    Loving your reactions! We need more choreo reactors. One suggestion - captions! So much of their dance is interpreting the song. I know it’s a lot to take in but the lyrics will give you so much insight into the movement. Black Swan is literally a song about their fear of losing their passion for creating music. The inspiration is a quote of a dancer about a ‘dancer’s first death’ (when they stop dancing). Love watching your journey!

    BTS dance practice videos are so satisfying to watch, in a way even better than MVs or live performances because the camera captures the whole without constantly panning in or out, which can be sooooo frustrating.
    Jimin is a dance genius, the most versatile and expressive dancer in the group.
    Jhope loves to free style, has no bones to speak of and is the one that learns the choreo the fastest so usually helps out the others, hence his title dance leader.
    JK loves to dance, period. He is a very sharp and powerful dancer.
    V has the best facial expressions while dancing and the most expressive hand movements after Jimin.
    RM and Suga both have the groove and the rhythm and are actually really good dancers.
    Jin is the one with the least experience and not really any rhythm to speak of but my goodness, through cheer hard work, he is able to not only keep up with the rest but does a stellar job. So impressed by him!

    BTS makes a lot of truly inspiring art-be it choreography, music, lyrics, videos, live performances and who they are as human beings. It’s lovely to know how they’ve inspired you. 💜 Keep in mind that as RM and Suga were starting out, they were told that they didn’t have to dance because they were recruited for their rapping and producing, and Jin didn’t have any dance background-he auditioned to be an actor; and V didn’t even plan on auditioning as he was just accompanying his friend to the audition. It gives hope to aspiring dancers like me that with hard work and training, you can be a great dancer.
    There are probably other groups with “tighter” dances, but BTS has reached the level of success where they are because they’re the total package-they’re not only charismatic, talented performers but they’re also extraordinary human beings with genuine hearts. Their art and journey have healed and inspired so many people, and that’s why they have such a huge, devoted following. That said, their live performances and dance practices are a fantastic rabbit hole to fall into.
    IMHO BTS has a lot more “tighter” (and fun!) choreography in their early days. Some of my favorite “tight” dance practices are
    - Danger
    - Spring Day (this one moved me to tears, especially if you know the meaning behind the lyrics)
    - Blood, Sweat and Tears
    - We Are Bulletproof pt. 2 (they were still “babies” here!)
    Some of their fun/funny dance practices are:
    - Go Go (halloween version)
    - Baepsae
    In their more recent work, you might want to check out their live performance of ON at the Grand Central Terminal in Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show.
    There are so many more gems that I hope you stumble upon, and that’s the beauty of the BTS rabbit hole. Watching other people’s reactions makes me appreciate things I haven’t noticed before, and it grows and deepens my love for this phenomenal, once-in-an-epoch type of group 💜

    These men are amazing. I’m sure if we were watching a dance practice we could find things that weren’t perfect but it’s a lot easier to criticize then to actually perform with seven members so beautifully.

  • @allons_y1001

    I appreciate that you watched the mv first before diving into the practice. In kpop, everything stems from the music video... it's where the concept is brought to life, it gives context to the choreography and it's where you get the storyline if there is one. While live stages and practices are important to see (particularly if you're wanting to dissect the choreo), its all a mere reflection of the music video and the overall picture. Labels pour so much of their resources and creative choices into these little 3-4 min works of art, it always feels so wrong when reactors skip them for just the lives or practices.

    Just want to mention that two of the members were dancers before they joined the company:
    J hope, he is also the dance leader of the group and more towards hip hop style of dancing.
    Jimin who people mentioned a lot, he learned modern dance in high school.
    The other members learned dancing after they joined the company. Which doesn’t make much of a difference since they were all super young when they joined and are professionally trained.
    Also the official dance line consists of Jimin, Jhope, Jungkook and V.

    Hi!! I saw you on Beards, Booze, Bands & BS. Thank you SO MUCH for REACTING to BTS 💜 I found them through my daughter, she and my mom enjoyed them. Mom loved Namjoon (RM) 🤭 and my daughter is a Jimin bias 🤦🏻‍♀️. We suddenly lost my mom January 2020 and then 62 days later and even more suddenly lost my son. BTS found me when I needed them just, PERSONA and Love Yourself, Magic Shop, have got me through the past 2 years…. They have so much content. And I’ve now seen them live. If you ever get a change to see them GOOOOO! I am ARMY. And Lindsey, if you don’t know it yet….so are YOU!! Music is such a huge part of life. As a kid dancing school was a extracurricular activity for me, however I didn’t stick with it and it is a huge regret. BTS has opened a part of my soul that was and is in desperate need of culture, humanity, love and respect. I want to thank you for being honest Lindsay and still being respectful of their work. Like you can make a comment on where someone needs to correct something without making it sound harsh or hateful. I love seeing things that I have missed or misunderstood. It makes me sad when people talk about the negatives in a way that makes it seems like some members are just awful and don’t deserve to be there(& then I get yelled out that I’m upset because I just don’t like the negative🤦‍♀️) when I’m just saying that tone of voice and phrasing can really make the diff between constructive and mean., imo. Anyway sorry for my rant. Love your channel already 💜

      @lindseymackail9350  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to be sorry, you are absolutely correct! It's not always what you say, it's the way it is said that makes the impact. I have worked with tons of Professionals and young kids....my goal as their coach is to help them to be their best on all levels of dancing and performing and that goes with their confidence too. It all runs together and my job and passion is to inspire my students and clients and not only help them to be great but also to have confidence and passion. If I am not properly delivering a correction or message from a place of love and empowerment, then I am not helping them to grow and grow w confidence.

    It’s important to know that they do have official positions in the group, just like RM is the “Leader”. 💜 The official “dance line” of BTS is called “3J”: J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. (They did a dance to the “Butter remix”, please react to it!) Of course they are all amazingly talented! One of the wonderful things about BTS is that they give each member their moments to shine in every song and in every choreography! 💜 Please react to the MMA 2020 performance of “Black Swan”, BTS “ON Kinetic Manifesto”, “An Introduction to the 7 members of BTS 2021 update” by Ida S, and their “Carpool Karaoke” episode! 😊💜

    I loved your reaction. Especially for the dance practices I'm not really looking for "perfection" because they are still just practices. It's kind of fun in itself to spot the goofs and bloopers. We know how hard they work and that they will be giving every bit of their efforts for their performances. On the other hand, I find it a mark of professionalism how a performer recovers from the inevitable mishaps that happen during live performances. I think that's one major reason to have practiced so much to have muscle memory. Smooth as they are, as practiced as they are, BTS is a group of Professionals.

    • @lindseymackail9350
      @lindseymackail9350  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed!! We are human and we all have/had moments on stage where we have things happen and a true professional will be sooo good at fixing it most people won't even notice it lol. I tell my students never let your face "show" you messed up...as long as you keep smiling and performing and not looking like "oh crap I messed up" all over your face people usually won't even notice.

    • @faymcdade5156
      @faymcdade5156 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A prime example of that was when they debuted Black Swan live for the 1st time on the James Corden show..in a much smaller space than they'd been used to. When it got to the floor part you liked Lindsey, where they kick out a back leg after the body rocking, V full on kicked J-Hope in the head! He said afterwards the pain made him feel faint, but all you notice is him slightly re-adjusting his headmic & going straight into the next bit of choreo- such a professional (poor V said he was so nervous he didn't even realise what he'd done!) Again, when you watch the Grammy performance there's a bit where Hobi misses his step on the stairs but recovers so well that a few reactors I've watched haven't even picked up on it & commented. I love his & Jimin's dancing so much- different styles & backgrounds (Hobi has been dancing hip hop since he was 10) but both so accomplished (if you don't know by now, they were the two doing the duet in your earlier vid, where Jimin was the one blindfolded). I'm loving your assessments & looking forward to more!
