The Adventures of Flash Gordon - Episode # 3 (Vultan, King of the Hawkmen)

The hawkmen capture Flash, Thun, Barin and Aura and fly them to King Vultan's mile-high, suspended sky city where the winged monarch announces he will marry Aura and sends Flash and his friends to slave in his atomic furnaces. Back at the palace Emperor Ming commands Dale to marry him and advises Dr. Zarkov that earth's days are numbered. In a spectacular sky battle Vultan's hawkmen are no match for Ming's rocket forces, who blast the hawkmen's sky city into rubble. Ming rescues his daughter Aura as his metalmen capture the city. This chapter ends with sky city in ruins and Vultan, Barin, Thun and Flash departing for Arboria where they will map their revenge on Ming the merciless.

Still the Best cartoon ever more cooler than 90s version

It was a excellent series that was based on the 50s serial but with cartoons it could have far more exciting scenes and baddies.

It's kind of amazing this was made in 1979 and shown on Saturday morning. Back in the 1970s, there was the push to get violence out of cartoons. Hence, Super Friends was Super Lame. The Super Heroes weren't allowed to duke it out with their villainous counterparts. Too violent according to the censors. Also, when they made rare Looney Tunes Cartoons, they were made lame as well; cartoon violence was a no-no.
Not only does Flash have a bit of violence, but you got to dig the dancing girls! If they make a new version nowadays, they would remove all the "sexist eye candy"!

There were ways around the parental groups' demands though, particularly during the '80's. For instance, having the assorted combatants be declared 'robotic' (even though they clearly weren't, as was the case in Voltron), or engineering miraculous "A-Team" style escapes and swarms of parachutes falling from exploding aircraft. Not here, though!
And yeah, the parent watchdogs and religious groups of that era have been replaced by infinitely more obnoxious lefty activists today. :(
They put some love and hard work into the animation.... remarkable for the time period.
The voice of Flash Gordon has to be the same as Thundarr the Barbarian.
Yep: Robert Ridgely (1931 - 1997). He also voiced Filmation's Tarzan, of _Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle_ (of the later 1970s) and appeared in several well-known movies like _Blazing Saddles_ (1974) and _Boogie Nights_ (1997), among others.

Skeletor is great in this series. The rotoscope animation in this and He Man are spectacular.
Skeletor is not in this. It's Flash Gordon. Not He-Man.
No Skeletor here, but you can hear his and Ming's voice are the same still, they both were voiced by the same Alan Oppenheimer.

I always liked the cool design of Ming's ships and robot minions. The color scheme was dope for those times.

Wow. Ming's troops might've been comprised of robots, but those Hawkmen defending the city definitely weren't!
Compared to their live-action '70's series and (of course) MOTU in the early-'80's, this show was pretty no-holds-barred for Filmation. Good stuff.
It's funny how the sensors let that pass. But being that flash was one of the first space heroes ( buck Rogers being the first), they gave filmation a pass as the writing had lots of action.
If I remember right, this was originally a TV movie that impressed the network that they wanted a Saturday series instead. Sadly, animated shows like this fell to the side as episodic adventures sometimes made viewers felt left out if they missed one.

Yep: performed by Alan Oppenheimer (b. 1930)--who also voiced Skeletor in He-Man and the Overlord on _Blackstar_ (very ID's with Filmation).
He was also Captain Keogh of the USS Odyssey in _Star Trek: Deep Space Nine_ , referring to the Galaxy class starship destroyed by the Jem Hadar at the end of season 2 ("The Jem'Hadar").

Which is it really ironic since they probably did use a gothic movie set on the original Flash Gordon films or short films 🎥 🎞 🎦 🎬 📽 in order to bring the classic and super old might I add comic book/ comic strip character to mass media.
