I just ordered those ball card pages from Amazon and am looking forward to putting my extra gems away. I like your way of marking the bags for which kit it came from. I enjoyed your video it is very helpful. 😊
I saw a great idea online from someone of getting those clear Christmas ornaments and filling them with the leftover drills, I think that is a fun idea!
I finally found the perfect storage system for me, right before I quit diamond painting (for now, just taking a break). I went on Amazon and bought large quantities of baseball card protector sheets (not the card pages like in your notebook... actual "envelopes" for baseball cards). Then I bought a large quantity of ziplock bags that fit inside those protector sheets, and a large quantity of 3 x 5 index cards. Last but NOT least, I bought 4 plastic long **business card** storage boxes (they are about 10 inches long). I then put all my leftover drills into their respective baggies (numbered with DMC color #), I cut every index card in HALF and printed the dmc number on it with the card sideways and the number in the top left. Then I put the index half card and the bag of drills inside a baseball card protector and put it in the business card box, sideways. I used 2 boxes for round drills and 2 for square drills, and all my drills are put in the boxes in numberical order, with partitions for 100, 200, 300, etc. I then store those business card boxes on a shelf 2 by 2 (round #1 box on round #2 box, and square #1 box on square #2 box), and the entire "footprint" for all boxes of THOUSANDS of drills is about 8 inches wide x 10 inches deep x 6 inches tall. If I think about it tomorrow, I will post a picture of my storage system on the FB group page.
I have been doing diamond art for over 2 years now. It is so relaxing. I just found your channel. You are so soothing. I am glad to see I am not the only one who loves this hobby. So many subscribers here doing this too :-)
I LOVE this method. I just ordered sleeves and baggies to copy it. I plan to do an entire page for each color, since my drills aren’t exactly DAC quality. I plan to just label the baggies. Once such a book becomes to heavy, I’d like to make boxes with columns, like a seed or card catalogue. There are some good instructions using foam poster board in any box deep enough for bags to stand in. I’m so new to diamond painting, but I want to be well-organized. Being poor has always taught me to waste not one drill, not one penny, not that I’m complaining now that I’m surviving
I started off with the system you have and went to a decorative box and glued foam board to make about 4 rows. Cut up old index cards or file folders I found at thrift stores and labeled the cards and put bag behind it. Made one for round and for square. It’s easier. The binder I used was a double binder and put round one one side and square on other. They are falling out as you said. I have been short on drills on my current painting. Glad I keep them. TFS
Hello. Beautiful Rachel💜 I’m slowly but surely getting on top of my spare drills. I brought one of those medium sizes present boxes and used foam board to seperate down the middle so there’s 2 sides. I brought some tough ziplock bags used for storing coins/jewellery etc because they stand up in the box. I then section with cards every 100(hope that makes sense). I store rounds and squares in the same box. I mix my drills unless diff dye lots, dac or another company with Good drills. I keep them individual. Hope that long winded story makes sense 😂
I’m have big freezer bags that I use to store them. They r all labelled with a different colour (red, purple, yellow etc) and then I will bag and label all my drills and sort them into the colour categories. In each freezer bag there is a list of all the DMC codes in that bag and if I get 2 bags of the same DMC and shape then I’ll put them into 1 bag but if their is a slight change in the shade and on the list I’ll write in brackets lighter or darker next to the DMC and have 2 separate bags🙂
Thank you for sharing you way to store left over drills. I have a lot and have been looking for a good way to store them. I just may try your way using a old binder I have.
I don’t label. Just separate by colors. Some containers have three very similar shades except black and white. I also keep special shaped drills separately and also Swarovski’s (I design nails too!). In the end, I only have to compare the DP color to my choices and decide. The World won’t come to an end if my drill does not match the exact symbol on the canvas. No DP Police will come knocking or fining me. 🤣
I just started binge watching your tutorials. Nicely done! Maybe for this purpose, the "DMC Thread Inventory Spreadsheet - Updated" would be interesting too. I used it for floss, and I may be using it for the "drills" as well. In fact I think the color matching of most of the drils are just guestimates.
When I do a diamond painting for someone I give them all the left overs in small bags like yours with them labeled. I give them a copy of the ledger. I also give them a pen, a small pink sticky stuff & a green tray. So should one fall they are able to put one back on. I seal all mine before they get it & each are framed. I love the magnetic frames. They are great. I was keeping some for me but I have enough should I want to use them on my junk journals. I'm not sure why one would need to keep the extras from each painting that you keep. For myself I use what bag it comes in...put about 5 or 6 in that bag..tape it up & that's enough for me...the rest are thrown away.
Was separating them but taking up to much room...so l bought some nice round glass jars and now l tip all the colours into them...so red into a jar and so on so they are all mixed :)
Hi Rachel. At the time I’m watching this it’s 2yrs old. Did you end up changing to a different system like you mentioned you might be doing? If so, what did you change to? I’m considering changing mine and using the baggies with the holes already punched into them and putting them onto binder rings. I’d love to see any new ideas that you have implemented.
Thank you so much for this. I was just about to purchase some containers but them I would have to mix the packets for the same color but from different suppliers so I think this really is best.
Not sure whether you’ll see this since this is an older video, but curious what you do with the extra free tools that are always thrown in. I don’t need a new pen and tray every time but I hate the idea of just throwing them away!!
Thank you for sharing, so I no what I need to do before I get into diamonds painting I have a diamond painting that I haven’t started yet what I’m not understanding is what happens in the craft world when I stop needing points was the same you didn’t add stone to needle point or crossing stitching what really blowout my mind was die machine we used stencil or you made your on I was still doing then but I guess not enough and this egg craft my daughter ask me mom why did you stop making your diamonds eggs then she shows me on UTube I didn’t do UTube but when she shows me something like my egg I got mad I made these for only 5 people and it was done by my hands not a machine just me example to me.love your video.
Here's my idea (and take it with a grain of salt because I don't store left overs 😂) but to take this system a step further to eliminate the spillage issue and be able to store more but keep the simplicity.... What about one of those baggies about the size that a tool kit comes in, then use a cut up index card to make the bag rigid (you'd use it to label as well), then put your baggies of drills inside the bigger baggie. Use a shoe box or similar container to store them and you could use some kind of index card or card stock to make sections for 100s 200s 300s etc? I KNOW I should store left overs but just haven't been able to bring myself to 🙈🙈🙈
I’ m brand new to diamond painting so I don’t have a stash yet. How often would you actually go to your binder for extra drills? I’ve watched a few of your videos and love them.
@@MissRuthless I've only done 8 so far and buy mine from Amazon, none have come with drills short - however I did spill once and my spares came in real handy! I've also known people to buy off other sites and have had colours short, same with customs. I think it's all just luck & random
I really like the look of this way to store spare drills. I’m thinking I will get 2 binders one for square and one for round. I also only plan to keep DAC spare diamonds. Would you mix the diamonds from different kits together or do you think the dye lots would change between kits even from the same company?
I have an envelope punch board. I made tiny envelopes to hold each bag of spare drills and labeled them with the number. Then I made several boxes out of card stock just big enough to hold a couple of dozen envelopes in numerical order, and stored the boxes in a 12 x 12 scrapbook card stock holder that fits into a chest of drawers. Everything was something I already had so it cost nothing except a little bit of time.
Sorry I just watched this video and started getting into diamond art so to go over this you get a binder baseball card holder and lable those 1,2,3 and so and put the bags in by the number if it says 1,2,3 and so on
cheap envies and shoe boxes... works best for me. I have them separated, so boxes for round and square. And yes, I have 2+boxes for each. Love to have mine organized...
Do you prelabel all the pouches according to the color board and just put the excess into the already labeled pouches ? Thank you for all your teachings. Greatly appreciate it all.
Thank you so very sorry as it did help me. I too am currently looking for a storage system and would like to separate drills, so looking forward to your new idea😊💖🍀🌹
I found this video very useful how ever I am in England and don't have those shops available to me. What is the binder called?? As I have tried to find it and I'm struggling to find them with the individual pocket. Also the DMC chart you have I am struggling to find. I hope you can help me. Ha Stupid me just found your new video with the box much better idea and I have the perfect wooden box for the job. But I am still struggling to find a colour code chart (DMC)??
That's how I'm storing my beads but, like yours, they are becoming over crowded. I was thinking about getting some kind of a storage system from the dollar store such as one use dip packs with lids or something that size and when the binder gets too full on a particular colour, like 310 for example, that I would transfer the diamonds over to that kind of system but I have to wait until our new home is built before I start that system. I really love the DMC labels from Michaels and will definitely be getting those in the new year. I have a few DAC pictures that I will be kitting down and I would want to keep the diamonds separate for those because of the quality. Just as a side note, that finished diamond painting, when I first saw it, I thought they were coloured bottles instead of Christmas lights.
If ive got multiples of gems from different paintings what is the best way to match colors. Ive got so many little bags and containers it would be nice to combine and or downsize containers.
There are some people who just dump them together by DMC but there is so much shade variegation that I personally keep them separated. If you want to try it, you can get a DMC color card and go for the true color that way.
Just curious what do you do with so many left over drills? I have only done one kit but decided to just do a blank canvas using them because I am sure with each kit that means more leftover drills?? I really am in awe with all the diamond painting tutorials...
Some of mine were slightly off colour even though it was the same number. I just label it "Lt" or "Dk". Additionally, the symbols change depending on the painting. I just use the number.
I'm new thank you for video. So do you really need to save all old drills? Seems like a lot of work for one missing drill. Do company's not send enough drills? What do you do with them after. Thanks Deborah
I save them because I want to, but some people choose not to. I'd love to work through my stash when I finally start a HAED diamond painting. Companies by principle should send enough, but accidents happen (tails do wag!) and also they can pop off. So that's why I save them.
Do you just start labeling and use each number of the label stickers or is there another method? If you labeled a whole page with the most popular numbers that you use and then comes another number in between that then how would you add a pocket to the page?
3865 as you show... I remember that I do not have enough to finish my project :( I will looking if on some facebook groups, but for the futher I need to do like you
Hey racheal! Was just curious, how many dmc colors are there TOTAL? I've looked it up and everywhere has a different number. Maybe colors have been added? Not sure. I want to do this binder setup so I want to save space for all the colors (theres quite a few I wont have yet). Is there a list somewhere of all the numbers in order so I can at least have a spot for each one? I dont really want to have to buy a dmc color chart. Thanks for any and all advice!! Love your videos!
Hello, i am brand new to diamond painting, are the numbers the same from different diamond painting companies? example would #127 green from 1 company be the same #127 green from another company?
Rachel Rae but doesn’t each kit come with its own diamonds? I just finished my first one...not sure why I would save them. Is there ONE standard coloring system for all diamond paintings?
Where do I get the folder from and what do you. Do with gems with no dmc code I'm doing one and supposedly. The dmc code. Is. 050 but can't find matching gems for it is it in your. Dmc book
When u work with the same company, they label all their diamonds the same way. When I start a new project, look at the legend, and any corresponding dmc numbers from a previous project are uaed firs, before opening the same dmc numbered bag from the currwnt swt
Hiya! Just to let you know, I've read and compiled a video answering your and other questions in a video that will upload tomorrow! Thank you for asking. -RR
Hi Rachel, I just discovered you! I have started putting left over drills into small plastic containers (like a tic tac box), and 64 of them fit into each plastic case. Im fairly new at this and now realise how many of these Im going to have to buy as there are so many different DMC numbers!. So Im switching to little bags which Ive just ordered. (Im in Australia) so not sure where Ill find a folder like yours but its now my mission!. One probably stupid question, some DMC numbers are 4 numbers long.... like 3849 - Does this mean that there are actually that many colour!!!And if so, how many folders have you had to buy to store them all? Id love to hear your feedback. Liz :)
Hi Rachel my name is Susan I am a very just beginning with the diamond painting and I am enjoying what little bit I am doing I do it very slowly but I have the one big mistake and I wonder if you have any suggestions on what I can do one section the the sticky part of the diamond painting for some reason is not as sticky what type of glue or what type of suggestions do you have that I can use for it I would greatly appreciate an answer the canvas The canvas is from diamond club I hope you can help me I will still keep doing it I’m enjoying it I have ordered another one it’ll take me a long time but I enjoy it it’s a great past time thank you and I hope you have a great day and you can’t wait to hear your answer thank you bye
Hi Susan, I think you may want to contact DAC's support team, they would know the best solution. In the past I've used aquaglue or nail polish but that was with canvases that had double sided adhesive. Support@diamondartclub.com
i just got a painting but my drills don't stick the glue is not sticky do you have any tip other than sending it back on how to get the drills to stick
It's at the end of the video. I store them in a binder and save them for if I run out on another project or if someone else does and I can post it to them. If I don't like the quality, I put them in a glass jar to contain them so they don't end up in the ocean as fish food.
DMC is a brand of cross stitching/embroidery floss and those numbers are kinda like Pantone - they are a reference for a shade of color. So in theory each number *should* be the same dye color but sometimes they differ between lots... I hope that helps
It's a helpful video on storage, I just don't know if it helps me on recycling. I've googled recycling the drills and because they are resin it says they may not be recyclable. :(
Some companies use resin, some acrylic. I keep my loose drills in a glass jar. They are microplastic so there isn't exactly a safe way to recycle them unless you encase them in resin or use them for other projects...
i don't mean to be demanding but maybe a few times could you be able to make videos where you just sit and talk and complete a painting because i haven't started doing diamond paintings yet, i'm waiting but when i watch people do them i feel i gain experience and i gain more knowledge on how i should do them. Thankyou
Because I send them to those who need them, and I don't want to throw them away. These microplastics are bad for the environment, so I make sure to recycle or rehome them.
I don’t even do diamond painting, but your voice and videos are so soothing. It’s like ASMR for me.
You could also put a card in the pocket that is too full indicating there is more and keep a file box with the overflow drills.
Thank you Rachel for doing this. I'm in the process of reorganizing and condensing all of my craft supplies. Your video sure does help.❤
Glad it was helpful!

Those came with the kits 😊 you could probably find more on Amazon or in a craft store!
Hello, i am brand new to diamond painting, are the numbers the same from different diamond painting companies? example would #127 green from 1 company be the same #127 green from another company?
No, not always.
What do you do with all the drlls do we save them forever
what if you run out of space in a pocket color what do u do with the left over drills that wont fit in ur binder?
The only thing repeating in my head right now is “it’s bad for the environment” I didn’t even THINK about that and now I feel super super bad
Where’s the storage box from?🥰
Use wash tape to close the pockets that are getting too thick!
I want to get some small bags for diamonds what size do I get thanks just starting out.
You can use any size but I think the ones in the video are 2"x1".
What is the range of dmc numbers so you put them in order?
What do you do when there different shades of a color?
I keep them separate. If they are way off you could put them with the dmc number they most closely match.
Do you have all of your drills separated already before you begin a dp? I’m trying to figure out if best way to organize my drills
What diamond painting companies use the DMC codes?
Why should u keep leftover drills? like what would u do with all those
I give them to people who run out (Got Diamonds on Facebook), use them if I run out, and plan to use some for a future project.
Dmc book
I got the binder and inserts from walmart, and I'd say that if the drills don't have a DMC code you can color match them with the book.
When u work with the same company, they label all their diamonds the same way. When I start a new project, look at the legend, and any corresponding dmc numbers from a previous project are uaed firs, before opening the same dmc numbered bag from the currwnt swt
Do u think you will use the drills again. Every new painting has new drills. I've kept mine
Hiya! Just to let you know, I've read and compiled a video answering your and other questions in a video that will upload tomorrow! Thank you for asking. -RR
I thought the DMC colors don't share the color code ?
DMC is a color code. It's by a French embroidery floss company
Liz :)
Hi Liz, there are 447 DMC colors. :)
@@RachelRaeCraft OH THANK YOU for clearing that up for me!!!! Now I can go ahead. Much thanks. 🙂
So all the same numbers from different companys are the same colour? 310 is always black?
Yes, if they use the DMC color range, they should be the same.
Cool 👍...
How. Do. You. Get. Drills off. A. Glued. Canves
Try tweezers. ❤️🇨🇦
i just got a painting but my drills don't stick the glue is not sticky do you have any tip other than sending it back on how to get the drills to stick
You can use normal glue. As long as it dries clear.
Can i ask where did you get the dmc color chart?😊
Michaels. You can find it on Amazon as well :)

I actually really hate the ziplocs so much.
But it's hella clever to use a deck storage lol
Hi. Where can I get the DMC color chart just like the one you have.
I got mine on Amazon :)
Rachel Rae Thank you ☺️
What is the point of saving all Of the extra drills? I would not think one or two drills popping out requires the hundred extra you are storing.
You can use them for other Crafts or for conversion pieces.
This is how I store all my left over diamonds.
What do you do with them? So far, I'm just tossing them.
It's at the end of the video. I store them in a binder and save them for if I run out on another project or if someone else does and I can post it to them. If I don't like the quality, I put them in a glass jar to contain them so they don't end up in the ocean as fish food.
Do all companies label their colors by the DMC?
Not all, but a lot of them do!
Rachel Rae Ok! Great! Thank you!
5:16 what did she use those for?
To label the sleeves with the DMC number. That way I know which slot to put what color # into!
Rachel Rae oh ok thank you!
Why exactly do you save drills
Im very new to diamond art
To have extras in case I run out and also to keep them out of landfill
What is a dmc number xx
DMC is a brand of cross stitching/embroidery floss and those numbers are kinda like Pantone - they are a reference for a shade of color. So in theory each number *should* be the same dye color but sometimes they differ between lots... I hope that helps
How long have you done these
Since April of 2018.
@@RachelRaeCraft Thank you, :) I enjoy your videos by the way, so thank you for posting them!
Question- in your folder, do you have drills in both the front pocket & pocket on the back also?? So- 2 different in each pocket?? Love ur videos!! 💜
There is only 1 pocket in each page, not 1 per side...
Rachel Rae So they are always put in the pocket on the right side of ur folder then?? 💜
i don't mean to be demanding but maybe a few times could you be able to make videos where you just sit and talk and complete a painting because i haven't started doing diamond paintings yet, i'm waiting but when i watch people do them i feel i gain experience and i gain more knowledge on how i should do them. Thankyou
Hi Micky, I think I answered this already, but please check out my wipnchat videos. :)
Why don't you just throw out all these extras? Don't kits come with enough of these drills each time? Seems like a TON of work to save extras. Thanks!
Because I send them to those who need them, and I don't want to throw them away. These microplastics are bad for the environment, so I make sure to recycle or rehome them.
