The green looks exactly like the green diopside near Grenville QC along highway 50 so I would agree that's what it is. Love your videos, they are quite educational.
Great video. I know nothing about rocks or gems but was glued to the screen with interest as I can see you are very knowledgeable in respects to your passion. next time I'm flying by all those beautiful rock formations alongside our many roads, I may pull over and admire and wonder how it all came to be. :-)

Spectroscope is my wish list soon I will be getting one. I have tested many garnets with magnets, most garnets attract garnets. I excited to learn more about stones.

Clement Mineral Museum, Inc. was formed in June 1990 to make the attraction something that would generate outside interest in the mineral and mining heritage of West Kentucky.
I keep intending to visit the mammoth caves and when I finally get around to it I will be sure to locate the museum. I have a video on coal mining in kentucky, it sounds like a place that I'd like to live.

I drive right by there when I go stay at my friends cottage which is a half hour north of Bancroft. When I go up in a few months Ill stop and check it out. You say birds creek is a good spot to stop?
Well, I heard about it and I went up there and the road was blocked off at a certain point ( as you head north on 62 turn left at the Bird's creek intersection and then it was the first or second road on the right) as it (the road) is privately owned now, but it is said to be an amazing spot for diopside, in particular the fact that the crystals are gem quality.

There is just something about The rock that keeps me interested. The beauty is of such captivation, it so amazes me. Anyhow, I hope you don't mind if i request some of your time. i have several rocks (i have an idea what they are) but a second opinion would really help. So in doing so i would like to send you photos or video with a short briefing on each. I have a diamond tester as well as the chems to test, but i haven't as of yet. silver gold and platinum. These are what i concluded basically after a small window period of reasearch and experience on hands. #1 Stoney meteorite with fusion crust, Has been weathered, yet still looks good. Found at San Luiopispo right at the far shore lines.a few months ago. Very heavy in weight, for its size. #2 Also, a big brown rock ,kind da layered, i want to say.... clay like mineral? im sure its considered metif. The cystals inside looks as to be of a diamond forming patternTesting positive. Also if you can advise me on the best possible way to open a quarts rock, Which I have huge ones, so as to not damage its treasures. This would be awesome to hear back from you. i will stay close to the computer. Good day : ) Deb
I know jade is more likely found in subduction zones like the North American coastal regions. But so is vesuvianite. So, I thought I would ask. I really have to visit Bancroft. Your videos have been inspiring. Thank you for posting them.
I am glad you find them interesting, that is why I post. I should have another one up in about a week for the Kuehl Lake zircon deposit. It's a seldom visited place and it has yielded gem quality zircons. My friend Jeff found a decent quality zircon prism there and also a large - possibly gem quality green apatite.
I subscribed. My parents took me camping in West Virginia and other places along the Eastern seaboard when I was a child, and it really haunts me to know the old shoe box I left behind back in the States was full of excellent rock and mineral specimens I will never have again. Maybe you will travel, in the future, to Nain, Labrador and explore areas where labradorite can be found. Or show people the areas in Greenland where ruby and other gemstones are being mined. People might enjoy a video presented by an expert. I look forward to your next video.
Quartz is very hard and fractures like glass - conchoidally. Calcite is soft, you can scratch it with your car key - it's also usually oapqaue whereas quartz is a lot more transparent (usually)

You mentioned vesuvianite. Is there any chance of jade in that area. Isn't there often jade where one can find vesuvianite?

How does one, not too well versed in geology, tell the difference in a calcite vein vs a quartz vein??
