    I really appreciate a lot of Joanna Soh's content - she also created Ramadan health tips video for people who observe Ramadan that want to maintain their fitness while fasting. It was really considerate and not something a lot of fitness creators do, serving communities they aren't a part of.

    More workouts for me to check out on TH-cam. Yeah!! The women I've been following for the last few years is Pahla B. This ones for your mom. Her tag line is your best middle-aged fitness friend. Her workouts about making peace with your menopausal body. It's all standing, no transitions to the ground (apart from the occasional abs workout were you stay there.) Knee friendly low impact. She's also a mindset coach and has a podcast called Fitness Matters.

    The plank reminded me of RHOA where one of the housewives, Drew, has a workout app called "Drop It With Drew", but she can't even do a squat correctly. Her form is terrible and one of the other housewives, an Olympic athlete, is like, "How you gonna drop it with Drew, when you can't even drop your own body into a squat?" Form matters!

    Love this video. thanks for all the educational and review video. I used to workout without any purpose, just doing workout with lots of views. Now I start to focus more on functional training. Not sure is it because I start working my back more often, my back and shoulder pain seems to reduce significantly compared to last time.

    Thank you for the great video, as always! I appreciated your point that pulling movements are beneficial for most people, and I would love to incorporate more into my routine. :D I would love to see a video suggesting functional pulling exercises that can be done from home with weights. (Many people suggest pulling movements that require gym equipment (ex. lat pulldowns)

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have anything up high (like a pull up bar) that you can loop a band around? Then you can get in a vertical pull. And honestly my favorite horizontal pull is a simple bent over row :)

      Thanks! I wasn't sure what category that would fall in! I went to a pt once for a hip injury and she had zero clue about my elbows and knees, so I thought maybe it wasn't a pt thing.

  • @hannahlane3540
    @hannahlane3540 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Justina! Quick question: when you say training with purpose, does that mean if you do a move for hypertrophy and know what you’re working and the muscles included, is that functional? It seemed like the only thing that made a move functional was balance, mobility, and improved strength on every day tasks, kinda making it feel like to grow stronger for a lot of strength isn’t a great goal. Or maybe a different audience?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So if your goal is hypertrophy and you train for hypertrophy, that’s functional! Functional simply means “with purpose” by my definition.

  • @iaseto

    That Gideon workout is great. I hate all the push-ups in it too haha. It seems like it will be such an easy workout but actually builds up a great sweat!

  • @alishanahar8749
    @alishanahar8749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Justina! When you mentioned the knees going over the toes for squats, is that also true for lunges? Is it fine for the knee to extend more than 90 degrees?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! Just ask yourself WHY you’re programming a lunge. Is it for mobility? Is it for quads? Is it for glutes? Is it to mimic a certain movement pattern you hit in daily life? That will inform how you align your joints in lunges.

    my gym does a group class that is just called Functional Fitness and I still don't know what they mean by that - I always thought that 'training functionally' was more about individualising training programmes, training with specific purpose for specific outcomes for you individually - how do you make a general group fitness class, taught by different instructors week to week, open for any gym member to go to 'functional'? Or does 'functional' in gym marketing just mean 'compound movements' with a dash of mobility and balance?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the gym! I teach functional strength training classes and the way I define it is working toward a purpose. So each of my classes is geared toward my clients who mostly work desk jobs and we have a different training style each month (endurance, stability, power, etc). Hope that helps explain at least how I mean it :)

    I had a question, If I need to purchase a book that teaches me simple functional training method, or talk about movements and the purpose for those movement…. Would I find a book for personal use?
    I know you studies a lot of years to become that knowledgeable, with many years of experience…. But I was thinking if I need to have basic knowledge so I can build my own exercise, would that be possible?
    Do you recommend any books or online courses?

    Hi Justina! I want to get my CPT but I’m hesitant because I can’t do a push up and often have to modify exercises and stick to low impact. I feel as tho I wouldn’t get any clients because of such. Any advice? You are the reason I have but my health first. My A1C is down for 7.5% to 5% in less than a year and I am not restricting myself on my foods just being aware and mindful! Thank you so much! @justinaercole ❤️❤️

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! I wouldn’t think so much about what you “can’t do” and more about what you bring to the table as a coach. You’ve obviously implemented some amazing sustainable habits to improve your A1C, so I’m sure you have plenty of knowledge to help others. I say get the cert and go for it ❤️
