This bargain (??) Edition 30 was purchased from a friend as a fixer upper.
join me on the transformation as we restore this car from a mis matched forgotten about has-been to a cherished Modern classic.
With the mechanical aspects of the Golf now fixed thanks to Ben and Allen @ A&T Motors Newbury, it's time to focus on the paint.
We worked with Nico and his small team at Smash Paintwork in Swallowfield , Reading - who ended up replacing the front bumper with a new Genuine part, and doing all of the required paintwork on the bonnet, wing and rear quarter panel.
Unfortunately due to timing conflicts - I had planned to be present during some prep and spraying , however this was not possible (Nico squeezed the job in for me and we also had lots of work on our side).
however I hope the Tour of Nicos fabulous paint laboratory gives you a nice insight into what goes on behind the doors in a quality bodyshop
In Episode 1 we collected the car, the initial inspection and some of the smaller things (wheels and steering wheel), and the list of mechanical repairs. you can watch that episode if you haven't already here -
In Episode 3 will be our more traditional detailing / paint correction section which will be out sometime in November hopefully. filming and editing takes time!

I was under the impression that putting coatings on a freshly resprayed panel is strongly not advised as the paint needs time to properly cure?

That's correct.
That's what the gas off period is for,
Nico has advised 2 weeks before PPF and ceramic coating. 😊 With our workshop schedule I won't have time to do the work until at least that time!

What was the cost of the paintwork?
I paid a bit less than retail price as Nico did me a favour. I'll cover all costs in a project roundup video.
