Thank you so much Beverley for your kind words... I studied the old masters techniques with Oils many years ago... as they used a limited pallete. I adapted this approach to pastels... experimenting over the years. What really has made all the difference is the surface I use now... pastelmat. All the best with your artwork... 😊🙏
Hello, Dave, Thanks so much for your sharing. I want to translate the apple 9 values vedio And share them to the platform in my country. Is it ok to do that? Because I think it is really helpful.
Hello Catharine, you are very welcome. Yes, you can share and translate, please credit me with a link to my TH-cam page as the creator... thanks Dave 💕🙏
@@DavePortersArt Dave, thanks for your reply. The reason that I want to post is Because my country block TH-cam and other. They cannot see ur vedio. And some of them don't know English. I could introduce you to them. Could u give me some information?
Hello Dave, I was watching your video, and was thinking, your way of using colors are the most natural looking... and again I was thinking that this is the way I want to learn to make my drawings. If you could give me an advise....how can I use pan pastels for an underpainting in your way of using colors?
Hi Julia, I love the freedom and relaxing feeling you get with keeping the colours simple. I have not used pan pastels yet... what I would suggest trying is finding the colour close to the area you are working on then go over with primaries and secondaries accordingly. Happy Drawing ...thanks for the comment 🙏
Thank you so much for the lovely support Mara! According to the experts it will take at least two years before I can see any traction and momentum of my channel.... just keeping patient and producing content. Thanks for caring! 😊🙏
@@DavePortersArt yes, Im an artist too but on and off only since Im a singlemom who still need to work. Ahh thanks Dave I have all the carbothellos and a large box of caran d ache pencils would there be an equivalent in one of those at all, I can pick up singles the next time I’m in town. I will look more carefully at your hand full of pencils again I thought it was a carbothello pencil didn’t realise. It’s hard to see as your fingers are over the ends of them lol
Hi Lynne... the equivalent blue pencil I tend to use most of is 145 in the Caran d arch range. For the dark blue for mixing with brown for deep shadows it's no 22 in the conte a Paris range. Equivalent in the Caran d arch range is 120. Hope that helps
Dave Porters Art thanks Dave I will check mine tomorrow see if I have that colour, I’m sure out of all the dozens of pastel pencils I have there must be a similar colour lol, I just don’t have the conte Paris range, I don’t think I should buy any more lol can’t use up what I’ve already got.😁😛
Good afternoon Dave, a doubt, the pencil you are using to sketch is the pastel? And in relation to your studio, is there any kind of adequate lighting?
Hi Igor.. all the pencils I'm using are pastels... the grey pastel I use for the outline is a carbothello 1400/726. If you visit my Instagram account I go into detail regarding lighting... Take care ...Dave. here's the linkinstagram.com/p/BbEzorgFWSd/
Dave are you able to tell me the blue colour pencil your using I can’t seem to find a match, the colour may be deceptive on screen, I have the full set of carbothellos But can’t work out which one that is. Thanks a lot for this video I am slowly learning how to get a reasonable skin colour.
Hi Lynne... just found the correct number... its no10. or 010 conte á Paris pastel pencil ( the light blue one). I have a link in the description that is a full set for a good price on amazon. they have great lightfastness unlike the blues in the carbothellos... I don't use any pencil less than **.
@@DavePortersArt merci de votre réponses mais il n y a pas les numéros par exemple le rouge de carbothelo c est le 305 ou 310 pouvez nous dire les numéros de chaque couleur super vidéo merci

WHAT TYPE OF FIXATIVE YOU USE ?
I don't use any fixative... that is the advantage of Pastelmat surface. Fixative dulls colours too much too... another reason I don't use it.
