  • Hi Guys; In part 1, we will cover the basics of creating a generic school ring. Cutout for a shield on either side, make a place to put our schools name, and cut out a place for a stone of your choice!
The next two parts will cover finishing the ring, and then 3d printing the ring with either our Elegoo Mars or Epax X1 3d MSLA resin printers!

Hi, love your videos, they have been so helpful in learning how to use Blender, but I was just wondering how you get the extra bar with all the tools to come up on the right side like at 1:28 ?

Thanks for the kind words. Working with blender can be a bit confusing due to all those options. After working with blender for a while you won’t even notice all the things you don’t use. Also, I recommend using a hi res monitor just to make the 3D viewport larger That is where you will focus with practice.

Hi Peter. I'm doing well up to minute 18. When I apply the difference to make the shield cutouts, it turns out the ring is hollow. I played with the solidify modifier but it didn't seem to resolve the issue. Any ideas?

Yes. Two things. Only have the model in the screen. Enter edit mode and select all faces. Then press Shift N.

The second thing would be to use the 3D printing add on and check for open faces.
Save the file either way. Close and reopen blender and open your file. Then try to perform the Boolean function again.
If that doesn’t work let me know here again and we can make arrangements to work on it together

@@watchesandjewelry Thanks for the fast reply! I am very new to Blender, btw. The Tanster turned me on to it and it's really cool, not to mention a good way to spend time during this lockdown, but it has a steep learning curve. Thanks for doing these videos and helping with my question. I closed and opened Blender. I hid the shields, selected the ring and went to edit mode. I picked faces and selected all of them. I pressed shift and N. A small window opened up labeled Recalculate Normals. There was a check box labeled Inside. I re-tried the Bool Difference with and without Inside checked. Same problem. The ring is hollow.
I also tried downloading one of the 3D Printing Add-Ons on Github, 3D Toolbox Modified, but can't figure out how to use it.

@@watchesandjewelry Okay, so I restarted from scratch. Now the cutout worked just fine and the ring was not hollow. The next bit in the video after that is adding the diamond. I see you used a "simple asset management" tool which I don't have. Is this something you added on from Github?
