Unfortunately in our country talent takes back step to very many other things. Its so evident, there were so many amazing movies that came out but something like laapata ladies was the nomination. Nothing against it, but there were way many better films and so therefore so much is thrown on everyones faces but does it make any change. No next oscar is going to be the same. Reality is we would have won oscar many times if we were not biased.
this movie is doing some type of an awards run in the US it may not just be for an oscar but golden globe, critic's choice...etc. i belive france submitted emila perez (a good choice actually). all we imagine is currently doing the arthouse thing in the US. India may not have submitted this film because of france being one of the producers but don't worry all we imagine as light, we got you.
No the Oscar nomination committee told , this movie doesn't feel Indian, it said it's too modern for an Indian movie . Look it up, they really told this .
@@privateprofile3517 the oscar committee in your country or mine? i think they are making an awards run, again, not just for the oscar. i like that. i wish more movies from India would do this. psssst are you reading this Mr. Shetty?
@@shelly_lee sorry I didn't even see your username or pic, I am talking from an Indian perspective. It's not about winning Oscars but India has always had problems with submitting shit movies for Oscars . You won't understand it, it's an Indian thing
@@privateprofile3517 don't get me started with this subject. i am still steaming mad over India not submitting RRR. it was about the win people, the win! we put that movie on a freaking golf tee and gave it free publicity. it would have won best foreign. but we did send it home with lots of awards including one shinny oscar. so all is forgiven 🙂
I personally actually really like the shaky camera work. It gives me a this kind of a documentary feel and a sense of reality while watching it and immerses me to its world.
Oscar has become Lobby game so Amir khan machinery may work . Even if this movie does not make it to Oscar list still Payal Khandala achieved her goal - that very heartening
did ya see? Payal Kapadia has a golden globe nomination for best director, a first for an Indian director i have been told. she is even getting oscar buzz for director. fingers crossed.
So what ?? Bohat achha kiya nahi bheja OSCARS mein ... I would say one thing, India is not that bad or Slummy looking, the way arthouse film makers show. Cinema is a visual art, and first of all it should be visually beautiful !
Apparently the film is being submitted to the general category, so there is a chance. And Laapatta ladies was nominated and selected on one of the facts that it has more financial backing and marketing ability with Aamir Khan backing it.
Yes, this film is highly likely to win Best International Feature Film for India (I like it much more than it's biggest rival The Seed of the Sacred Fig), but India throw it away, what a shame.
I didnt like the move at all, even though there were elements that could have connected me to it. but it was not relative at all. the movie should evoke emotions, it should tell the story, it shoud move people. this movie dont do any of these. they have shown the life of 3 struggling women, and you have to somehow make connections and intrepret by yourself. the movies so bland at its best.
I have seen the movie. Camera work is very bad. The performances are fine. The content of the film is not greatly written, instead taken from a few normal life of people. When you watch the movie you dont feel u r watching a movie, u feel u r watching a recording from your phone camera. Nothing great, It wont make you stop n think about something, it wont remind you about anything, ull forget the movie after 2 to 3 hours. Its just an average movie. We have to connect every scene to something else and justify ourselves that we r watching something meaningful, so that others must not think we dont have a taste. There are many great movies from Malayalam Industry, just, this is not one of them.
When you review a film that won at cannes, you should never say it's bullshit. What if it's indeed profound and you somehow missed to catch it. But I'm not an aspiring reviewer, so, I don't have to worry about saying it was a total waste of my time. The fact that I watched it completely means it was a slightly better garbage.
Till the date i am writing the comment - 18/12/14 All we imagine as light has achieved- 20 Wins and 34 Nominations ( At International Film Festivals and Award Ceremonies) And whole 2025 is still waiting with many awards pending , so i am sure that no. is going to increase😊 Which makes it only Indian film to get this many international awards after RRR. Amazing shotout to Payal Kapadia🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Payal is working the US award's circuit correctly. She is showing up at the regional festivals, having multiple screenings at arthouse theaters, and interviewing with the right film critics. i am really rooting for her. i hope the Golden Globes has another director's symposium this year cause i wanna go to it. still crossing fingers for an Oscar nom.
Would be happy if she wins but found it boring in the art movies category. That piano background score was bad. Sex and nudity was unnecessary, was out of context. Nowhere near luke yesteryears works such as PARTY, ARTH, DEBSHISHU etc
I don't agree. Just because it went to cannes, it should be sent to oscars. It's very obvious the film was made specifically for cannes. This style is not new at all. Most of the recent Indian art films have the same style and tone. It was just made by a female filmmaker on women's what made it win. Otherwise this is really an average film. It's very much hyped and sold in the name of cannes. It's to please the foreign audience. It was never inteneted to indian audience.
Naah, every prestigious award juries chooses the awardee for a reason, the film even won 20 other awards and even 34 nomination, so I think it's pretty much likeable and understandable by most of cinephile s and even it has 100% rotten tomato

I did feel the movie is enough guys. I wanted to stay in that world little more.
Poor Nona Prince: did you watch the movie, its a garbage.
oscar is for commercial big budget movies, larger than life type movies. cannes is for movies that depict real life and its problems
Ain't so true, but oscar awardee movies are very much conceptual and different from mainstream
Its not released in my state😢 (Odisha) .
