Better off drinking a glass of water than Proper 12. Best review I heard for that one is from Rex and Daniel at Whiskey Tribe: "If you fight, may you fight for a friend, if you steal, may you steal your lovers heart, an if you drink may you drink something else."

Power's Gold is my pound for pound champ for an everyday drinker. The 3 Swallows and John's Lane are more than incredible. Also among the best top tier whiskeys.

At their respective price-points, both Power's and Black Bush are INCREDIBLE.

Glad to hear your positive thoughts on the Writer’s Tears. I got to try that recently on a lark and was shocked at how good it was. I had overlooked that one on shelves for many years assuming it was nothing special. Great call!

Cool list! These all make sense for bourbon lovers venturing into Irish whiskey. The only reason I've never tried Writer's Tears is that I've never seen it for under $50 near me, which makes it a hard sell when Single Pot Still exists for that price. My go-to blended Irish is actually Jameson Caskmates Stout, creamy and lovely.

Andalusia Triple Distilled is an amazing Irish style whiskey from Blanco, Texas! Texas heat really pulls out the flavor from the barrel AND they bottle it at 100 proof!

Jason the only problem I had with Bushmills Black Bush is that it started to turn out with a bright lemon flavor over time. The bottle was kept in a cool dark cabinet with a constant temperature. The Jameson never turned out with the lemon flavor.

Great breakdown. Powers Gold Label is my favorite affordable Irish Whiskey. Three Swallow and John's Lane are also greater values for single pot still Irish whiskey. And the Powers core line is all non-chill filtered, which is always a plus for me. Thanks

Teeling Small Batch is around 7 years old and 46%ABV non chill filtered and finished in Flor De Cana rum casks and around $25 to $35. Nice with cigars

Great review. I only really started getting into whisky (sorry, UK spelling) as a new Covid lockdown interest, being mostly a real ale / craft beer guy, first scotch and then by extension also dipped into bourbon and Irish whiskey (I’m half Irish). With Irish whiskey I was review-led to Redbreast (12 and CS), Spot (Green, Yellow and Red) and Teeling small batch, and had so far not given Irish blends any thought. Your review has sold me on trying some of these, maybe Writer’s Tears first as I have also heard elsewhere that this is good stuff. Great channel!

  • @IC86
    @IC86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the timely review. I’m about to expand my whisky journey to Irish Whiskey, likely with Redbreast 12. I’ll keep these three recommendations on my list for the future. P.S. that list does not include Proper 12, so sorry.

Looking forward to more videos on Irish Whiskeys! That's a category I've not actually tried. I have heard good things about Writer's Tears in the past. I might have to pick up a bottle. The Bushmill's sounds good too except I know that with sherry finished Scotches, I get a lot of bile notes from that because I'm sensitive to butyric acid. So while the tasting notes on that bottle sound good, I'm not sure about the sherry part.

Sipping on my first Powers Gold Label as I watch this. I agree that it's preferred to Jameson and regrettably to my previous favourite of Black Bush. Perhaps Black Bush can't deliver like it used to because, to me it doesn't taste the same as when it became my favourite. I think some of the age has come out of it as the whisky trend continues to explode.
I still haven't tried the Writer's Tears as the bottles are 50ml less for more money and I'm not a fan of that marketing strategy. Start "shrinkflationing" booze and a lot of cheap whiskeys will find my money in their pockets as they can shove that strategy straight up their arse!

@@jacksmith2315 I have tried some other Irish Whiskeys but most didn't really stand out to me, especially to really good Scotch.
I'd almost rather drink bottom shelf cheap Bourbon than more expensive "better" Jameson and only drank Bushmills a few times.
I'm 39 and only just tried Scotch, good Bourbon and Irish Whiskey (other than Jameson), a few years ago.
Most of my life I drank Crown R, Jack D, Jim B, Kessler or Black Velvet.
I am part Irish but found few Irish Whiskeys I really like or love but have already found plenty of Scotch or Bourbon I love.
The Irish may have invented Whiskey which I fully appreciate but the Scots definitely perfected it.

Three great whiskeys for sure. For a step up in complexity and flavor but still affordable, Jameson Black Barrel is incredible value and great as an intro to Irish whiskey for Bourbon drinkers. Roe & Co is also a newer offering from Diageo (Guinness) and comes in at 90 proof. It's good for sipping and a great cocktail maker.

I kind of feel like this is a bit of a false equivalency on some level. I'm not overly familiar with the Writer's Tears product line, but I do know it's a good $7.00 to $10.00 more a bottle that the Jameson. As is the Black Bush. The only entry level whiskey I see here is the Power's. To make a fair comparison against the Jameson I would want to see Powers and the Bushmills original, or Tullamore Dew or Slaine, something like that. Entry level whiskey vs. entry level whiskey. Now if you want to stack up the Jameson Black Label vs. the Black Bush I'd be very interested in your take on that.
