My 1st Irish whiskey was Red Breast 12 year. I had never had an Irish and pointed to a bottle at a liquor store and told my wife I loved the look of the bottle. 2 days later I wake up and there’s a bottle on the table. I think she’s a keeper. Love, love love Irish whiskey. My son bought me some green spot for Christmas but I’ve not cracked it open yet…… I think this evening is the time. Not had it before.
I love everything Teeling has released, from their Small Batch up to the elusive Blackpitts. I was fortunate to visit the distillery on my honeymoon, and had a lovely time touring the facilities and tasting a variety of products. The staff were incredibly kind and it felt like a cozy, not too big operation to care about its guests.
I went there on my birthday this year, and very much agree on everything you said. It’s a great place with great staff. I loved their Single Grain, and was intrigued by the Black Pitts also.
I ordered two Glencairn glasses and they came in the other night. It has changed the game for me! It’s wild how you can smell so much better out of those as opposed to the rocks glass. I feel like I’m smelling and tasting all my whiskeys for the first time!
Welcome to Glencairns....you will stop using all other whisky glasses now. I broke 3 and replaced them immediately as I couldn't get much smelling/tasting out of others.
I'm retired from an Irish company (huge here in the states). Irish whiskeys have a special place in my liquor cabinet. Among my Irish colleagues, the decision was: Bushmills? or Redbreast? And if you chose Bushmills, you were fired. My favorites - Redbreast 15 and Green Spot. I hope to sample the Redbreast 27, based on your reviews of it - we'll see. My Irish colleagues were partial to the Redbreast 12 over the 15 ... but it's not even close for me - the 15! It's the smoothest single pot still whiskey I've yet tried, with all of the notes you described. Green Spot? Of my three go-to every day drinkers - this one is king. So clean, yet not sacrificing flavor. The beautiful light golden color reminds me that it's not gonna be a bourbon sugar bomb. But it's close to my heart as one evening my wife and I were chatting with the bartender in our hotel bar in Dublin regarding the best Irish Whiskey to give to an Irishman for a good deed he'd done for me. After a lot of chatting about a variety of whiskeys, the guy across the bar spoke up and said "Green Spot ... get him Green Spot, any Irishman would appreciate that" and the bartender quickly added his support. So that was that. After the guy across the bar had left, the bartender asked me if I knew who had recommended the Green Spot. "No. Should I have?" That was Dave ... you know ... The Edge. I hadn't recognized him - this was in 2008, and I was used to the long-haired pony-tailed Edge. The guy across from me was clean cut, shorthaired Edge. Anyhoo ... that was my introduction to Green Spot. The guy I gave it to? Didn't like it ... Probably a Bushmill's guy.
Love this story! My education on Irish has grown and am no longer purchasing Bushmills. To each his own. I have grown to love pot still Irish so anything along those lines is great for me. Thank you for taking time to share.
@@brianfullerton7606 No idea. Though I'd guess a couple of things - 1st they're owned by Diego and perceived to be a bit faddish and marketing driven instead of product driven, pursuing shareholder satisfaction over customer satisfaction. That's how they're perceived anyway, can't speak to how true it is. They also put out some pretty low-end stuff. Dunno if it's bad or not, just that Bushmills basic, red, and black blended offerings are very cheap and their most popular, so there's a stigma about them being ‘cheap drink’. I could also see people, particularly Americans, taking issue with the fact Bushmills is in Northern Ireland, which is still British. But that's silly, as Ulster is God's Own Province, and the North Antrim coast is where our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ goes for his early May bank holiday weekend.
@@high-velocitymammal5030 Bushmills was sold by diagio and is now owned by Proximo (Jose Cuervo ) now. It may be "cheap " (thats relative ) but I say it's fairly priced . My favorite whiskey of all time is the spot line up. Yellowspot is my personal favorite! Powers 3 Swallow is my go to everyday Irish single pot still whiskey. Love the video! I feel like not enough love is given towards how delicious Irish whiskey is. Irish whiskey got me into Scotch and Bourbon, but at the end of the day I come back full circle to my Irish nectar. Thank you for making this video!
I really do enjoy Irish whiskey! The spot lineup is ridiculously good! I would have to say my favorite is Blue spot followed closely by yellow. 3 swallow is the steal for sure!
I loved this video also. I learned a few things today that I did not previously know about Irish Whiskey. I also wanted to add that I enjoy when you talk about your outliers that you enjoy regardless of the cost. It's good to see "best of" in multiple price ranges. Thanks again SLB!!
My father in law was Irish. He once asked me if I would like a good glass of Irish whiskey. I replied, I didn't know there was such a thing. After a couple bad Polish jokes directed at me. We sat down and I got to enjoy some good Irish Whiskey. That was 30 years ago I wish I could remember what it was. Thanks again,
Hi, Kurt! Appreciate you showcasing the expensive bottles, too. It’s good to know what’s out there and -just as importantly - worth the investment. Thanks, pal. Cheers!
@@slbdrinks I understand. But you’re sincere and open. Even more importantly, you describe the tones you’re paying for on these high end purchases. It’s interesting to me, just as an observer, who is genuinely intrigued by the craft of whiskey. That balances out the extravagance of a $250 bottle of Irish Whiskey, IMO.
Just watched this because I've been wanting to try Irish whiskey. You couldn't have been more right about Powers gold label. It is so good. Thanks for your advice, and thanks for the show.
Thank you as always😎 Probably get ripped for this one but here goes… Single malt under 30 bucks the sexton. Recognizing is not overly complex but is a good sipper and mix as well.
Hi Chris good to hear from you! I do have Sexton and also agree with your review! I almost put it in the video but I liked the Tyrconnel flavor profile just a touch better. Good choice!
I need to give Redbreast (15 or 12) a try next! Got a bottle of Green Spot right now, really love the apple you get in the palate when you sip it and then the butter biscuit when you swallow.
Redbreast 12 Cask Strength. It’s better than the 15 or the ridiculously overpriced 27yo. The older ones have too much cask influence which overshadows the spirit! This is the one…cut it down to 48%.
How could I not have a Irish whiskey named “Paddy’s”? The name alone has me. Jamison’s Caskmates Stout has been my favorite lately. It’s about $28 in FL. Really smooth. My wife tells me I get an Irish ☘️ accent after a pour or two. Thanks for the info on Irish!
I love this episode! I don't know if these are available in your market. Under $25 Jameson it's my favorite every day pour. $40 Quiet Man. Under $200 Middleton's. It's hands down delicious! I'll definitely have to give Power's a try. Thank's as always! SLB is my must watch TH-cam show every week. You all are amazing! I am always happy to turn my customers on to your channel.
Another great show Kurt! The Bushmills 21 is a little pricey but for a Christmas day post dinner sipper with family it is fabulous. Another 21 year old whiskey that is about the same price point is the Glengoyne 21 Sherry cask Scotch whiskey - it is incredible! Another special occasion whiskey. Cheers!
I ADORE Powers. Gold label is the whiskey that got me INTO drinking neat whiskey. My dad was the one to show it to me. The John Lane's release is the whiskey currently in my decanter. I have also enjoyed the three swallows release. Miss the old bottles, though. Cheers!
I was going to say, I've been through 3 bottles of Black Bush and although at the lower end of the proof (80), it is an absolute steal. It contains some 80% single malts and both Bourbon and Oloroso cask finished Irish whiskey. By the way there is a Red Bush out now which is aged in Bourbon barrels only.
You are correct and right about the 21 Bushmills. I agree with all of the other budget friendly options, I get it. But for the special occasion Bushmills 21 is the bottle. I was raised on Blackbush and it is still my go to.
I've only ever had the Redbreast 15 out of the bunch. I'll have to expand my collection once again with some of these picks, thanks for the quality content!
@@kenjansson6932 I agree with you RB 12 is fantastic, though i lean more towards RB cask strength myself. Still kinda new to whiskey, always trying new drinks when i get the chance.
Knappogue Castle 12yr Single Malt is pretty hard to beat. I don't see it often, but I grab a bottle when I do. Typically runs 45-50 here in NC. Cheers and love your channel!
Great video. When we were in Dublin recently, they told us that the “single pot still” naming was just a rename of “single malt” as the former was being taxed heavily, so the distillers invented the other name to avoid the taxation. I don’t know how true that is, but I really liked the idea behind it.
Thanks for this video, Kurt and Trenton. I've loved Irish whiskey for many years. My intro was Jameson, as it is for many. I've broadened my horizon since there. Like you, my town has one decent dram shop. Its Irish selection is limited, but decent: most of what you mentioned and more. I've never seen Three Swallow, Bushmill's 21, or Redbreast 27 there. Paddy's ($20 in my area) has been a good daily sipper for a long time. The price is definitely right. Redbreast 12 and 12 Cask Strength are nice treats. Maybe some day we'll get lucky and find the whole Spot, Dingle, Connemara and Glendalough line-ups. Slàinte!
Absolutely loved this review and lineup! I’m going to have to pick up a bottle of that Bushmills 21! So glad you hit the Powers as it’s overlooked so often. Solid work.
Thanks for the Powers 3 swallows rec! My local store has it for $37 out the door and wow, you weren't wrong, it's amazing. Ive since recced it to 2 others who love it too. Such a great bottle that hits way above its weight.
Totally agree on the Three Swallow. And pot still over all other irish whiskeys. Not as easy to find as RB12 or even Greenspot, but certainly on par for me.
Enjoyed this video. For me, it would have been Paddy, Powers Gold, Connemara, Connemara Cask Strength, Green Spot and Red Breast 21. Paddy is under $20 locally, Powers Gold $30, Connemara $45, Connemara Cask (not available locally, but can be found for about $80), Green Spot $50, and Red Breast 21 (also not available locally, but over $200 and as much as $300 when it can be found). I have not had Powers Three Swallow, and Bushmills 21. The difference between Green Spot and Three Swallow is $7 here, and I began drinking Green Spot when it was not imported into the U.S. Green Spot is delicious, easy sipping, mild but flavorful whiskey. And, one of my best whiskey experiences happened when I went to the J. Mitchell & Son store in Dublin to buy a few bottles of Green Spot. So, picking it is an easy choice. Any high end Red Breast is a great pick, as is the normal 12. Locally I can find it was 12, 12 Cask Strength, Lustau Cask, and 15. I have had the 21, and it was fabulous. Single Pot Still Whiskeys are so good. We need more of them. The Connemara is great, imo, because of it's texture. The whiskey almost feels like the lightest oil in the world as it glides over the tongue. Paddy, cheap, traditional buttery, cookie flavors, and well-balanced without much heat for a young whiskey. Powers Gold is a good stuff, but rising in price since the hipsters started to drink it. Miss when it was close to Paddy in price. Also, never mind having Jameson, or the Jameson Stout Cask, which I had this week.
What an amazing experience to visit the home of the spots in Dublin! Wow! All great whiskeys! I have yet to see any Connemara so hopefully soon. Really enjoyed reading your comment! Thanks for taking the time to share.
@@slbdrinks Thanks. The amazing part of my visit there was what they gave me to taste. Whiskeys that I doubt I will ever be able to taste again. I do recommend trying the Connemara. The ppm (how much peat smoke particles it has) is really low compared to money Islay whiskys, but still very pronounced in its flavor, more peat flavor than Bunnahabbain, imo. But, it has none of the brineyness, no iodine, no saltiness, etc. I have met few whiskey drinkers that have tried it and did not enjoy it.
You know you can get almost anything on the internet now, right? Good picks. Some of my fav's are Bushmills black bush, Jameson caskmates stout, Glendalough double barrel, Red breast 12, Tullamore dew, and Yellow spot. Green spot is pretty good too.
Most I have tried and are very good! Guys my age try to stay away from anything on the internet. Very confusing lol! Good idea though for better selection.
Your point about not being pigeonholed to one drink type is valid. While drinking in moderation is very important, my philosophy regarding adult beverages is to make new friends but keep the old. My point simply is, it's great to go back to favorites, but it's great to broaden one's horizon. As a side note, I usually treat myself for my birthday every year. I got myself Red Breast 15 in 2021.
Loved this video and it's very timely in my life. I have very much been enjoying Irish whiskey lately. I didn't know there were four types! Wow - Bushmills 21 was a jump up. Haven't tried that line much yet or Powers for that matter. Thanks for the review! Great insights!
Ahh, Irish Whiskey, now you're in my lane. I like that you have gold label on here. In Ireland, every bar I was in had Powers. Nothing special, just a staple like Bushmills, but always scratches that itch. I love Redbreast as well. I always use the 12yr in some of my specialty cocktails. If you like the single pot still route and ever come cross Green Spot or Yellow Spot, give those a try for sure. I'm really surprised you didn't have Tullamore Dew on here. I would put it up against Powers, Jameson and Bushmills all day. It really doesn't get the credit it deserves. I know you said there isn't a large selection in your area, but if you have a good relationship with your liquor store, they can order you anything that their distributers offer (probably Southern Glazer's or Republic). That being said, if you want some of the best Ireland has to offer, Midleton is a powerhouse. Also I saw the recent Rye episode, and heard Trent talk about how much he loved that "dusty" note. I have the cream of the crop for you. I was in Seattle about 8 years ago at the Canon Whiskey and Bitters Emporium (Largest Whiskey Selection in the US) and I tried the best Irish Whiskey I have ever had. Talk about "Dusty"! It was like an old rickety wooden room with sheets over the furniture! It was the 17yr by Knappogue Castle. HARD to find, but hands down a grail bottle for any Irish Whiskey fan. A little tidbit: Most Irish Whiskey is unmalted and malted barley because the British taxed malted barley, so by using unmalted, they dodged the tax (crafty bastards) so technically, your single malt Irish is more along the lines of the original Irish Whiskeys. But you gotta give those Irish Monks credit because If it weren't for them, you wouldn't have Poitin, without Poitin, you wouldn't have Moonshine, without Moonshine, you wouldn't have Bourbon. Sorry for the novel, but I love Irish Whiskey. If you've read this far, I appreciate it, haha. 🥃
my preference is Scotch but since exploring various types of whiskey I must say there is some great bottles in every category. plus it's fun and keeps the whiskey experience so much more enjoyable by switching it up
Loved this video! Irish whiskey is my favorite whiskey category. All great picks! You’ve convinced me to try Tyrconnell Single Malt and Powers Three Swallows (both are impossible to find in my area but I’ve seen them online). My picks would be: Blended: Powers Gold Label (hard to beat for the price!) and Writer’s Tears Double Oak Single Grain: Teelings Single Grain (also the only one I’ve been able to find lol) Single Malt: Sexton (budget pick) and Teelings Single Malt Single Pot Still: Any of the Spot whiskeys (my favorite at the moment is Red but I have yet to try Blue) and Red Breast 12 Cask Strength
All great choices! I struggled not putting a spot on the show but I highlighted blue spot on a previous show. You have to try blue! My favorite spot at the moment.
Definitely want to try it! I’m partial to cask strength whiskeys so I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. If I ever find it close to MSRP I’m picking it up. Sadly I’ve only ever seen it in my area for $300+
I've just been able to secure a bottle of that too - I'm not too knowledgeable about Irish Whiskeys but Jason C at Mash and Drum recommended it so I'm looking forward to picking it up and giving it a try!
Fellas, Blue spot is def my favorite of the spots!! I highlighted blue spot on a prior video so I wanted to include another single pot still I really like a lot on this video, RB 15. Blue spot is very good!
Ah yes on your favourite 2021 whiskeys of the year. I did watch that video but it slipped my mind completely that it was on there! Really looking forward to trying it!
My go to Irish Whisky is 16 YO Bushmills which I was fortunate to try at the distillery. It’s not cheap, so I don’t bring it out except for special occasions. It’s worth every penny!
I saw a comment earlier about Sexton and Bushmills Black Bush. Both are excellent choices for a budget Irish Whiskey. Tullamore Dew is also another great choice for budget friendly Irish Whiskeys. Enjoyed the video as always. Try the Dew Diligence Cocktail. It's fabulous. It tastes like Keylime pie to me! Keep the vids coming!
I’ve had the Powers Gold (red label), Three Swallow, John’s Lane, and rye. All are quite good and a great bang for the buck. I especially like the John’s Lane. 🤤
A great selection as an Irishman based in Dublin I envy the higher alcohol volume in some of the whiskeys on display, the Powers three swallows is kind of an Irish Bourbon, try the Bushmills 16 yrs old better value great vlog. Thanks!
I'm following your videos closely, and so I've ordered a trio of Irish whiskeys - not all of them for the first time. The first one was a first for me though: GREEN SPOT CHÂTEAU LÉOVILLE BARTON. Natural colour, non-chill filtered at 46% ABV. It's lovely, it really is - AS LONG AS you don't expect actual wine(y) flavours. Matured in 75% Bourbon casks and 25% Oloroso Sherry for 7-10 Years, then finished for 12-24 months in Bordeaux casks. The nose shows dominant vanilla frosting, pears, cherries, mild citrus, dark cherries, alcohol and oak. On the palate, again vanilla frosting will hit you first, followed by cherries and pears, cinnamon, honey, and oak. Long, mildly alcoholic finish with oak, honey, cinnamon. No.2, already familiar TEELING SINGLE MALT, bottled at 46% ABV. A no-age statement whisk(e)y, matured and finished in 6 different types of casks (ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry, ex-Port, ex-Madeira, white Burgundy and Cabernet) - presumably to achieve higher complexity on a spirit that is rumoured to have spent 4-7 years in these casks before bottling.Citrus, white grapes, dried figs, and a little caramel on the nose. Sweet lemon at first on the palate, accompanied by white wine notes, baked apple, cinnamon, vanilla - with dry oak tannins only in the finish. Quite lovely, especially as part of a chaser with American Pale Ale.
Do you ever get to the states for any reason? If so I need to get you on the show! Those were expert reviews my friend! I am thrilled you loved those two Irish whiskeys. They are quite delicious!
Thank you for this... My Irish is lacking... been to busy in the Bourbon-Scotch rhelm... my Irish consist of Jameson, Bushmills Black, Sexton (fav), and Greenspot (also Fav). Have never heard of Tyrconnell, Powers is on my list, but was not sure about it.... now I will be. thanks and Cheers.
I just found that Powers Good label and man it’s is so smooth. Great recommendation. I’ve been a bourbon guy for years and want to tap into something different so I figured I’d try some Irish whiskey instead. Glad I did! Thanks!
Very good choices indeed! I remember walking in a random pub in Ireland and told the bartender that I’m tired of Guinness Jameson and Bushmills..gimme something a Irish Yank like me a nice surprise. Gave me an almost full tumbler of Powers. That was my first night of 7 day trip and from that night on that’s all I ordered..Powers…such a good dram! 🥃
Powers is so nice. Just picked up a John's Lane, but haven't cracked it open yet. I could put the gold and 3 Swallow in an everyday drinker. Have you finished off the Redbreast 27? They just bumped up the price of it here in Ohio by $100. They also increased Nikka Coffey Malt. Likely see that one on your Japanese Whiskey video. It's like cocoa whipped cream and oranges. Another great video. Thx
Thanks so much! I have about 1/3 of my RB 27 yr bottle left. Milking it lol. NCM is a great Japanese bottle no doubt! I drained mine so need to get another soon.
My man! Coming in proper with the Bushmills 21! They're my all time favorite distillery, all of their products have been great, I can't wait for the 12 year single malt to hit the shelves.
You gentlemen are men of exceptional taste I've had everything from Bushmills except the 12 year. My 2 favorites are the 10yr malt, and sadly the one I could drink a whole bottle of over a few hours just sipping away they no longer make the Bushmills Irish Honey. Edit minus the rare casks
Thank you! Found it in an old man’s barn in Lafayette In. He was into some private saw mill action as a hobby but got to old to keep it up. Lucky to find it.
Have you tried Bardstown Bourbon Distillery Collection? Right now it's a 21-year Irish Whiskey blend. I know you're a huge fan of BB. You can only purchase this from the gift shop though.
I just love the biscuits and honey notes Irish whisky tends to have. Powers Three Swallow is now on my shopping list. Redbreast always has been. The 15 year it great and almost affordable
Love the piano jazz background music. Who is it? Oh, by the way, your videos are the bomb! Love them!! You have opened up the world of appreciating spirits to a new level for me and my friends.
Just picked up a bottle of Jameson black barrell....what ate your thoughts? Also are you a fan of the "spots" Green Spot, Yellow Spot, etc. Which Jameson is your favorite?
Have you ever tried Kilbrin 10 yr irish whiskey Ororoso cast? If so was wondering your thoughts. My fav overall irish whiskey is green spot this kilbrin 10 yr is my 2nd overall favorite. Love your show
I’m so happy to see Paddy’s. That is what I leaned to drink in Ireland. I don’t think they import it here. I had to order it from Ireland. Shipping cost as much as the whiskey
My favorites: #1 Green Spot. The nose is just amazing and the flavor never disappointments. #2 Jameson caskmates stout edition. It's just creamy and smooth. I love the flavor and really have to watch my intake when I get into this. It goes down too smoothly. #3 Redbreast cask strength. This one is kinda strange for me. Sometimes it's so flavorful and other times it's hot and bitey. When I'm in the mood for it it's simply amazing.
Hi. I'm going back and catching up on some older videos since before I subscribed to the channel. I'm loving Irish Whiskey. I was glad to see the Redbreast on your list! I'm a huge fan of the RB 12 and RB 12 CS especially. Maybe next time instead of restocking the 12 CS I'll grab a 15 year. About the same price. The Powers Three Swallows sounds intriguing. I'll have to grab a bottle when I see one. Oh, Green Spot finished in Chateau Montelena Zinfandel casks is also another favorite of mine. Cheers!
Only had Jamison and Green Spot so far....Picked up a bottle of Red Breast 12, but have not opened it yet. Recently been drinking Jamison Black Barrell when I need a break from bourbon/Rye.
Powers gold used to be even cheaper. Was the best secret in whiskey. Secret got out and they raised the price but it's still an excellent buy, and the best of the entry Irish whiskeys. Has a unique flavor that i've never been able to put my finger on that separates it from the rest.
You never know how your tastes will line up with an expert... but knowing that Redbreast 15 is your favorite tells me everything I need to know - I can trust everything you say! :D Thank you for pointing out some others. We recently had a Bushmills 16 and it was also very nice.
If you're a fan of Ardbeg (10, Wee Beastie, Uigeadal or Corryvrekkan), try Connemara peated single malt. This is a Kilbeggan Distillery production. Double distilled in small pot stills. Another good peated Irish whiskey is Teeling's "Blackpitts" single malt. Neither of these will break the bank.
Couldn't agree more about the Redbreast 15. I'd put Green Spot just below it ... and probably would put Writers Tears above Paddy's and Powers, although it was probably released after you published this.
Great video 🥃👍. I have the Powers gold (red) label and will now be on the lookout for the 3 swallow . John L. Sullivan is a great $30 Irish whiskey , give it a try .

That’s awesome and yes she is a keeper! I am sure you will enjoy the green spot!
Lovely drop that one. I'm in Ireland and the variety continues to grow
Redbreast 12 year and green spot are my two favorites that are under $100, and therefore reasonable to buy
Love redbreast 12
Redbreast 12 Cask Strength is THE BEST Irish on planet earth!

The Teeling 24 was great
I went there on my birthday this year, and very much agree on everything you said.
Absolutely essential. Even make my manhattans in them
Alright! So happy for you! Wishing you all the best with your whiskey journey!
Glencairn is an amazing glass. I still keep a rocks glass because from time to time I like something on the rocks

The Edge.
Appreciate that! I struggle sometimes highlighting expensive whiskey but I believe it’s important at times to do so.
Thanks again,
Great memory! Thank you for sharing it with me.
Do you remember these Polish Jokes?? 😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
@@peatbull3426 I'll have to think about it. it was many years ago lol. My wife might remember. It was a topic that came up for a few years lol.
So glad you did one of these. I have never bought an Irish Whiskey so this will be a whole new world trying these.
Awesome glad you liked it!
I really recommend Powers 3 Swallow as a good place to start then move up to Redbreast 12 and Greenspot.
"Two Irishmen walk out of a bar......."
Get it? That's my joke of the day. Carry on gentlemen.
HA!! I don't get it, but it's still funny!!!
Hahaha! Your to much my friend! Love it!
Bahaha! It isn't often that 2 Irishmen "walk" out of a bar!?!
😂
Don't give up your day job bubba.
Wish I'd started exploring Whiskey much, much sooner than I did!
Always appreciate your "budget-friendly" recommendations.
Plenty of time! Enjoy the journey!
Hi, Kurt! Appreciate you showcasing the expensive bottles, too. It’s good to know what’s out there and -just as importantly - worth the investment. Thanks, pal. Cheers!
Thank you! Sometimes I second guess myself on expensive bottles because I don’t want to sound boastful.
So good for the money!
Irish Whiskey is an amazing category to explore! More than 45 licensed Distilleries now, there are some amazing new brands coming out of Ireland!
Oh wow, what a great video! I'm really excited to try some of these now, and definitely have my eye on a bottle of Redbreast.
RB is an iconic Irish whiskey. Maybe start with the 12 yr and see what you think.
Thank you as always😎
Probably get ripped for this one but here goes… Single malt under 30 bucks the sexton. Recognizing is not overly complex but is a good sipper and mix as well.
I agree, and was just saying the same thing!
Hi Chris good to hear from you! I do have Sexton and also agree with your review! I almost put it in the video but I liked the Tyrconnel flavor profile just a touch better. Good choice!
+1 on the Sexton :) by far my best new find in the Irish category in recent years. The bottle is original but I hate how it pours tbh.
Sexton - best bang for your buck out there in single malts!
Sexton is an independent bottling of Bushmills
I got to tell you the black shirt looks much better in contrast with your bar. Nice job!
Thank you! Trent did an awesome job designing the logo and shirt selection.
I need to give Redbreast (15 or 12) a try next! Got a bottle of Green Spot right now, really love the apple you get in the palate when you sip it and then the butter biscuit when you swallow.
No doubt! It was hard for me to leave a spot out of the video!
Redbreast is a lovely drink.
Ha that’s awesome!
It’s Paddy in Ireland. They added the ’s for the US
That Jameson Stout Edition is an amazing value imo. It punches way above it's weight - it is just so nice.
@@kkeelty64Im just happy Jameson didnt pull a 'Basil Hayden' and mark up the Caskmates series way more in price for the same ABV! Win for me.
Uninformed question here, is good Irish whiskey drink neat, chilled, or rocks? What about mixed drinks?
I love this episode! I don't know if these are available in your market. Under $25 Jameson it's my favorite every day pour. $40 Quiet Man. Under $200 Middleton's. It's hands down delicious! I'll definitely have to give Power's a try. Thank's as always! SLB is my must watch TH-cam show every week. You all are amazing! I am always happy to turn my customers on to your channel.
Thanks John so much for your involvement with the show!
Believe it or not I don’t have a Jameson, crazy.
Never heard of Quiet man but will be looking.
@@slbdrinks send Trenton to Chicago! He can get it there. Have a great night!
@@slbdrinks You're welcome! I'd love to visit sometime. But with my mom getting up in age, I spend my vacation time going back to Minnesota.
@@slbdrinksQuiet Man 8 year won me over for Irish whisky.
Thanks. I've never had Irish whiskey, but as hubby is Irish...guess I'd better get some.
Lol sounds good!
Cheers!
Sounds delicious!
I ADORE Powers. Gold label is the whiskey that got me INTO drinking neat whiskey. My dad was the one to show it to me. The John Lane's release is the whiskey currently in my decanter. I have also enjoyed the three swallows release. Miss the old bottles, though. Cheers!
All great choices! The bottle change is something to get used to though.
Was going out to buy a bottle tonight and watched your vidja. I will see if they have any of these Irish Whiskeys. It is my heritage!
That’s awesome! Let me know what you think if you find a good one!
Just bought a bottle of Powers Three Swallows because of this video.....looking forward to having a dram this wonderful St. Patrick's Day!
Slainte!
For around $30, Bushmills Black Bush and The Irishman Founder's Reserve are both excellent and my favorites.
@@Rohit_M Dang, gotta get some Red Bush next!
Thanks guys for the heads up on Blackbush! I am pretty sure I can find this one.
@@slbdrinks If you haven't tried Rabbit Hole Dareringer, it is the best sherry cask whiskey I've had. Around $70, it's damn good stuff.
Redbreast 12 is half the price but much more than half the delight. But never be afraid to try new whiskeys.
@@kenjansson6932 I agree with you RB 12 is fantastic, though i lean more towards RB cask strength myself. Still kinda new to whiskey, always trying new drinks when i get the chance.
Sounds like you are well on your way my friend! Enjoy the journey!
@@slbdrinks thanks, you channel helps me make informed decision, salud!
15 is wonderful but the 12 CS is my absolute favorite!! Great list!
It is def good!
Knappogue Castle 12yr Single Malt is pretty hard to beat. I don't see it often, but I grab a bottle when I do. Typically runs 45-50 here in NC. Cheers and love your channel!
Came here to say this. I don't do much Irish Whisky. When I do it's Knappogue
Fellas, I really tried hard to find this bottle but just couldn’t. I will keep looking! Can’t wait to try it!
@P Matheson 100% agree. The Knappogue Castle 12 yr is amazing. That and the Bushmills single malts are my favorite Irish Whiskeys.
@@slbdrinks I’ll keep my eyes open and send a bottle your way
I learned lots about types of whiskey! I didn’t know single malts could be had so affordably as well! Thanks for the vid.
Absolutely! Irish single malts can be found at an affordable price point which makes this style of whiskey very attractive!
Great video. When we were in Dublin recently, they told us that the “single pot still” naming was just a rename of “single malt” as the former was being taxed heavily, so the distillers invented the other name to avoid the taxation. I don’t know how true that is, but I really liked the idea behind it.
I finally found the Powers 3 Swallow and it is very good. Thank You!!
Awesome! Very happy you found it!
Slàinte!
That would be wonderful to walk into a store that had complete lineups of good Irish whiskey!
Absolutely loved this review and lineup! I’m going to have to pick up a bottle of that Bushmills 21! So glad you hit the Powers as it’s overlooked so often. Solid work.
Thanks my friend!
Just checked out your channel and subscribed. Always up to learn more about bbq!
@@slbdrinks Awesome! I’m honored, brother! Cheers! 🥃😎👍
Thanks for the Powers 3 swallows rec! My local store has it for $37 out the door and wow, you weren't wrong, it's amazing. Ive since recced it to 2 others who love it too. Such a great bottle that hits way above its weight.
So glad you loved it!
Thanks for the terrific recommendations!
Your welcome!
Totally agree on the Three Swallow. And pot still over all other irish whiskeys. Not as easy to find as RB12 or even Greenspot, but certainly on par for me.
No doubt!
I don't drink a lot of Irish, but when I do I really enjoy The Tyrconnell. Glad you included it.
Excellent!
I will absolutely look for it!
Very knowledgeable comment. I thank you for this! I couldn’t have said it better. Enjoy that RB 15!
Loved this video and it's very timely in my life. I have very much been enjoying Irish whiskey lately. I didn't know there were four types! Wow - Bushmills 21 was a jump up. Haven't tried that line much yet or Powers for that matter. Thanks for the review! Great insights!
Thanks buddy! Look for Powers first if possible. Lovely whiskey!
@@slbdrinks Thanks for the tip. Just picked up bottle of John's Lane!
Don Majkewski 😂 i think i spelled that right. #7 right? Majik man
Ahh, Irish Whiskey, now you're in my lane.
Tullamore dew is way too sweet
my preference is Scotch but since exploring various types of whiskey I must say there is some great bottles in every category. plus it's fun and keeps the whiskey experience so much more enjoyable by switching it up
Without a doubt!
Loved this video! Irish whiskey is my favorite whiskey category. All great picks! You’ve convinced me to try Tyrconnell Single Malt and Powers Three Swallows (both are impossible to find in my area but I’ve seen them online). My picks would be:
Blended: Powers Gold Label (hard to beat for the price!) and Writer’s Tears Double Oak
Single Grain: Teelings Single Grain (also the only one I’ve been able to find lol)
Single Malt: Sexton (budget pick) and Teelings Single Malt
Single Pot Still: Any of the Spot whiskeys (my favorite at the moment is Red but I have yet to try Blue) and Red Breast 12 Cask Strength
Sadly I’ve only ever seen it in my area for $300+
I was lucky enough to grab a bottle of Blue Spot last week and it is stupendous! If you can find it, I highly recommend it!
I went in on a bottle of Bushmills 21 with two friends last year and we enjoy a drink of it when we get together. It really is amazing.
That’s a great way of sharing an amazing bottle and making it more affordable! Never thought of this so terrific advice!

Thanks!
Thank you sir! I do have the 16 yr Bushmills and love it! Appreciate your input.
Three Swallow is usually on sale in Ireland for €30. It's my first choice daily sipper perfect in a hot toddy when you're under the weather
It’s so good!
Oh God!! More to buy! AWESOME video!
Thanks buddy!
Redbreast 12 and Green Spot are 2 of my favorites

So what is the best way to drink Irish whiskey, neat or with some ice?
I usually drink Irish neat because I find it to be very smooth. As always though, try it a few ways and see what you like best!
Very good choices indeed! I remember walking in a random pub in Ireland and told the bartender that I’m tired of Guinness Jameson and Bushmills..gimme something a Irish Yank like me a nice surprise. It is and what a great story to go along with it! The whiskey journey, I love it!
Thx

These are excellent suggestions! Irish rules!
My man! Coming in proper with the Bushmills 21! They're my all time favorite distillery, all of their products have been great, I can't wait for the 12 year single malt to hit the shelves.
Oh no doubt! I truly love the majority of their lineup from top to bottom!
You gentlemen are men of exceptional taste I've had everything from Bushmills except the 12 year. My 2 favorites are the 10yr malt, and sadly the one I could drink a whole bottle of over a few hours just sipping away they no longer make the Bushmills Irish Honey.

Haven’t hat the Jameson you are referring to but the others are very good!

Powers gold used to be even cheaper. Was the best secret in whiskey. Secret got out and they raised the price but it's still an excellent buy, and the best of the entry Irish whiskeys. Has a unique flavor that i've never been able to put my finger on that separates it from the rest.
I can’t agree more!
Irish whiskey is so underrepresented…like the red haired stepchild of scotch. I’ve falling in love with Powers gold label as my daily sipper.
I completely agree! Great choice for a daily as well!
Powers is fantastic
True story....I bought the Powers Johns Lane due to the Tribe guys obsession with it and ended up mixing it with Irish Mist :/
You never know how your tastes will line up with an expert... but knowing that Redbreast 15 is your favorite tells me everything I need to know - I can trust everything you say! :D Thank you for pointing out some others. We recently had a Bushmills 16 and it was also very nice.
Both excellent!
I will look for it! Appreciate the recommendation!
My favorite and smooth high proof is Old Forester 100.
How does the Powers Three Swallows compare to John Lane. Love the John Lane and really enjoy Powers Gold, haven't tried the Three Swallows yet.
Boy good question! I like the John Lane probably equally as well as the 3 swallow. Idk lol they are all great! Good idea for a blind!
