This is brilliant. It's really helping me to find my lines which I normally really struggle with so pleasurable when you see your shapes taking form. And it clearly highlights when youre going off in the wrong direction .Thank you
Excellent. Your video popped up and the subject was something I needed, so here I am. You're so likable and you take the effort out of drawing (something I've been battling with). I'll definitely adopt this attitude and will be "playing" more with the shapes. Thanks.
@@SaltC Yes, but that's really the best part. It's never dull, always challenging. When you finish something, that's the end. You have to find something new. When there's nothing else, well...I may be old, but I'm not ready for that yet. 😆
I'd love to see another add to this where you show more examples of how to cut the forms. I have a hard time imagining how to do this on my own simply because I'm just not that creative/imaginative often times. I draw 99.9% from reference for now while I develop technical skills, and then later I'll develop my creative mind when I have confidence in my skills.
@@faith9505 Thank you for the message, I really needed it. I've been going to a friend's church that puts baptism ahead of the sacrifice of Jesus, they say Jesus is necessary but to unlock his grace and get remission for our sins we must be baptized first. Faith in Christ will not make you saved. I don't believe this, and their church has a dead feeling to it. So your message of morality, and religion being unable to give us salvation is what I needed to hear.
Good request. Remembering the more I see on purpose, the more mental references i have. Then that gives me a mental collections that help me use the shape-finding demonstrated here by SaltC. Other seeing: take photos, bookmark images, find in an image the big geometry that i think makes it appealing to my eye.
I cannot begin to tell you how much this has improve my drawing skills. I thank you for this video. It is the best warm up for drawing. Its gets 1,000 plus likes from me
I love seeing people do these. This reminds me a lot of Rodgon's lessons. He reeeeeally hammers in the importance of 3Dimensionality with plenty of examples like these. It's nice to see people finding out about this because although it's talked about by big name YTbers it's very little what they show or have to say about it.
This is very helpful to those including me who struggle with building your drawing from shapes. Would you recommend learing perspective or at least the basics before doing this exercise? Thank you and appreciate it.
@@blue36719 it's like when you reach a "block" in your art progress like maybe you don't have any ideas, or don't really feel like drawing anything or maybe you feel like everything you make is bad, that's what art block is.
This actually really helped me thank you it was a little bit but a lot thank you very much I’ve been trying for a few years and I could never get to that point in shapes and it just clicked right now watching this one thanks very helpful
Do you draw what you consider more realism or more fantasy? I appreciate this lesson I'm in a artist block and am tryinga pull myself outta it! Seems like this 'll help.
I do both, when I’m drawing without reference it’s more fantasy, with reference I’m training in realism, accuracy, etc. best of luck on your artist block! Push through
Sorry about that, I understand, still trying to find the best way to position my camera. Doing these types of videos in ink should help with the visibility a bit. Thanks for the feedback

Don't wait too long with drawing from imagination. You get good at what you do, and drawing from imagination is to some degree a skill of its own.

Basic perspective is good to know, but it’s not needed for this exercise, this exercise should help you “feel” and visualize form and 3D space
Thank you for the fun and helpful exercise. I've never used contours before and it was fun to make stuff combing shapes! :D
Glad it helped, thanks for watching
This helped me freshen up my skills since my art block, thank you very much
