Restoration of steam engines, sounds like heaven, I wish the main line would have steam engines running again, it would be just like heyday when they used to be really useful, but for now they can enjoy their time on other railways before the time comes to glory days

213 locos were pulled out of Barry scrap yard. The last two to be cut up were a 9F and a 4500 class in 1980. The remainder were either restored to working Oder. Restored to static condition or used as parts supply for same class member under restoration

It’s truly amazing what us volunteers and engineers can do when we put our mind to it.

An enormous amount of careful, highly-skilled work is needed to avoid creating a giant steam bomb. The expense has been the death of quite a few hopeful Steam & Rail Museums.... I imagine that death of the coal industry in the UK and its near-death in the USA has not helped.

glad to see that people turned their attention to the preservation of diesel and electric traction. Unfortunately preservationist myopia saw 10000 and 10001 Britain's first mainline diesel loco go for scrap.

Hmmm, would it be possible to convert some of these steam beasts into electric powered locos? Solar panels in the tender perhaps and I understand that a diesel would be better over all, but it would be a cool idea to see in action.
