And this is how you celebrate two decades of amazing music. This is so electrifying and melodious and yet heavy and passionate. Got goosebumps all over. To whomever edited this, what a fantastic job. The concert was brilliant, and this video is a perfect trailer for it. Jørgen and Simone... what to say... thank you, Mark, for choosing this as a single. A bit of a shame that the saxophone solo was cut a bit, though. To those who are not aware of the Norwegian Shining, give blackjazz a try. It is something you won't forget. I do need to mention how much of a fabulous drummer Arjen is. He plays it all and is, to me, the best metal drummer in the genre. Also, watching this reminded me of how nice Epica's fanbase is. So many flags, so many people travelling from across the world and joining forces. Hugs to you all.
This song is nearly identical to Crestfallen by Soilwork. Beat-for-beat. Granted, it's still an incredible song that I love from a band that I love, but it's Crestfallen. Check it out!
@@LigeiaNoire I've been playing music by ear for the past 30 years. It's _literally_ the same beat, tempo, timing and melody. It's even the same key. If I had isolated vocals of both, I could literally mix the two, _easily._ Because it's the same song. Only Epica's, who I adore, is a little extended. Incidentally, I also just heard Someone Like You by Adele. That song is Secrets by One Republic (granted, Adele came first). I hear these things. You have to look past the lyrics and vocals and listen to the _music._
@@TheLegendOfRandy I am being honest and don't see the blatant similarities at all. I see some riffs but they both go on different directions. Then again, nothing, at this day and age, is new. Everything has been done. So, we are bound to hear similarities more and more. I don't hear it but it may be that I don't have a good impartial ear.
@@LigeiaNoire Oh, I know you're being honest. Honestly, the majority of people aren't trained to have an ear for music, so I fully understand. (Edit: This came across condescending and that isn't my intent. What I mean is that I can hear any song and play it on piano just by hearing it. I'm a little more hypersensitive to music than the average person. Heck, maybe you are, too). I've also repeatably mentioned that I love Epica. I've been a huge fan since I first listened to Consign to Oblivion in 2008. I'm not saying this song is "stolen," not at all. What _truly_ is original these days? I'm just saying that it's nearly the exact same melody, even down to the key. So much so that if I were to sing karaoke to Epica's song, I could simply just replace the vocals with Soilwork's and nobody would notice. Listen to "Lost" by Beautiful Sin (which I _genuinely_ think you'll love). It's awesome and in a similar genre to Epica. Then listen to "Sun is Going Down" by Helloween. I think that's a clearer example of what I'm talking about here that I don't think anyone can miss.
It's a very good song. It's also a good thing that it's only for an EP and not a full album. EPs are for fun, whereas the main albums ideally should be full of an "EPIC" feeling.
I'll need to listen a few times to properly process the song, but it's highly encouraging to see the band experimenting; the Alchemy Project looks intriguing.
So many familiar faces in the crowd, that's the ultimate present Epica could've given us after queueing for over 20h to get the front row. Damn, that was the best night of my life! Amazing song, I'm so lucky to have experienced it live - can't wait for the rest of the EP to be released
C'est totalement fabuleux 😍Autant de génie et des progrès constants pendant 20 ans de carrière alors qu'ils ont pourtant démarré au sommet, c'est indécent pour les autres groupes. Epica for ever ❤
There was a dead audience member at an Epica concert. Did you check? It's Epica's fault. Moshing and diving are common at European concerts. If an audience member is injured, the musicians are responsible and will have to pay compensation.

Lyrics
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who will be the one to destroy us all
Mirror, mirror, can’t you see?
It’s written in the stars that it’s you and me!
They’re gonna burn this world down to the ground
Guns are going off, can’t hear a sound
Toxic in the air, I can hear you pray
Will you stay with me? Can you hear what I say?
You said: Let’s live forever now
But that was yesterday
I guess it’s time to say goodbye
The world goes to sleep, the final lullaby
It is time!
Don’t you cry!
Say your prayers
Wave goodbye!
As the darkness comes down!
The world ends and everything dies!
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Do you think we can survive this all?
Mirror, mirror, can you hear?
They’re coming for us, it is what we feared!
They’re gonna tear this night up at the seams
Lies are all around, nothing’s what it seems
Tear gas in the sky. I can’t breathe!
Will I see you again? Will you remember me?
You said: Let’s live forever now
But that was yesterday
Now blood flows and fills the sky
The stars begin to fade
I hear you say: It’s over now
There’s no time to cry
I guess it’s time to say goodbye
The world goes to sleep, the final lullaby
It is time!
Don’t you cry!
Say your prayers
Wave goodbye!
As the darkness comes down!
The world ends and everything dies!
Ahh-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
You and I will find a way out here tonight!
Ouh!
So here we are, hand in hand (everything dies!)
Watching the world end (and now, everything dies!)
The rain is pounding down on us, from a broken sky (everything dies!)
But we will live somehow (and now)
I hear you say: It’s over now
There’s no time to cry
I guess it’s time to say goodbye
The world goes to sleep, the final lullaby

Almost all of the top symphonic metal bands would never be able to make something like that
Very true. I don't even think nightwish could do something this epic.
@@lizzyq7807 precisely. I didn't want to mention names lol

😆
@@lizzyq7807 Yes, Nightwish have a very different style than Epica. Isn't it just amazing that we can enjoy such a variety of music?
@@DeepeningTheListening
Yes it is!❤🤘
Having been an Epica fan so long, its such a joy to see them having so much fun on stage. Simone's vibe in this video is just fantastic and the track itself is incredible!
Loved performing this song. Such great energy!
I can't even express how much I was looking forward for this song! Happy to have it out so soon

@@TheLegendOfRandy Dude... apart from 3 seconds in the beginning with the riff, there's no similarity at all ..
Hope they will play this amazing song during their tour in Brazil this year!

I'll need to listen a few times to properly process the song, but it's highly encouraging to see the band experimenting; the Alchemy Project looks intriguing.
Agreed! It's hard for a band to go 20 years without stagnating *COUGHnightwishCOUGH*
I'm sorry to have just discovered this group, but we have energetic days ahead.
Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷
Hey, I'm JEALOUS you just discovered them! You get to enjoy so much for the first time. Like the whole Retrospect concert. 🙂
This song and watching the video just gives me so much energy, it feels like I'm right back into the pit

Holy Mother of God! That was freaking awesome! Absolutely astonishing song. Can't wait for this new album.
Como não amar essa banda incrível que meteu um belo saxofone na música e ficou simplesmente perfeito???????!!!!!! Obrigada por existirem. 🤧🥺
So many familiar faces in the crowd, that's the ultimate present Epica could've given us after queueing for over 20h to get the front row. Damn, that was the best night of my life!
Amazing song, I'm so lucky to have experienced it live - can't wait for the rest of the EP to be released
Lucky bastard.

I feel the same. I would never have associated sax with metal but they did it and it works so well. Absolutely brilliant!

What some people think shouldn't work is just being close minded. Any instrument can work with any genre.
C'est totalement fabuleux 😍Autant de génie et des progrès constants pendant 20 ans de carrière alors qu'ils ont pourtant démarré au sommet, c'est indécent pour les autres groupes. Epica for ever ❤
This is a great song and video too. Epica forever and ever.

There was a dead audience member at an Epica concert. Did you check? It's Epica's fault. Moshing and diving are common at European concerts. If an audience member is injured, the musicians are responsible and will have to pay compensation.
