- Mike Dawe is living the dream. It's taken a lifetime to find the right car, but finally he has in the form of his Vauxhall Chevette HS rally car. And don't think this is a show-going trailer queen. Mike has every intention of using this car, and using it hard. It is, after all, what it was built for.

My dad just showed me this, and the registration plate is the same as his vauxhall chevette HS, which i think he sold in ‘93, and he lived in newcastle. It’s his car from years ago, he’s got pictures of it and remembers going to work in it, he is so glad that it is still out there and having a great life, this was so nostalgic to him, he said he took a double take when he saw the reg plate, this made his day!

when i was an Vauxhall apprentice i worked on one of the first ones to come out i remember the distinct throaty roar of the engine and all of the heads turning as the mechanic and i took it for a test drive great memories Great car !
How strange. VEF591S was owned by my father in Portsmouth for a number of years in the 2000's . He, in fact, did an awful lot of the work on the car. If you read this, Mike, post a comment as he is happy to provide any info you may be after. Cheers
What a fantastic chevette hs to own a chevette like this one myself it would be a case all my birthday's and Christmas all came at once I absolutely love chevettes hs & hsr l would love to see your chevette some time as I am a massive chevette fan anymore videos?

william walker I also had an HP Firenza. HWA 99N. Sold it in about 1988 to a guy in Dundee who I believe still owns it.

If I owned this chevette hs myself like you Mike I would never to I have been totally nuts about hs and hsr chevettes in road and rally form just love the sound of a slant four engine twin or single cam engines just fabulous

Did all the works gp4 chevettes have a sailsburys back axle very interesting. Beautiful car.

Hi, I owned this car until 1993. If the current owner is interested in some old photos and some of the history - like how much I bought and sold it for, please get in touch. It is like spotting an old flame!
It's good to see all the previous owners suddenly appearing after all these years. My Dad owned it in the 2000's as well. I showed him the video and you could see him looking at it like an old girlfriend that got away.

Shove it's were great cars, simple to fix and maintain, a Vauxhall viva basically with a new skin.
It's the first GM Opel, only Vauxhall link is cylinder block slant 4 and UK developed 16v Head. The last British Vauxhalls were viva and Victor's, everything since are Rebadged GM/opels.
@@checker3694 Yes, slant 4 block & ancillaries are the only common to Viva parts. head, oil cooler, manifolds & sump are all unique.
