  • One of our beehives has contracted a virus called Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus and if left alone, would die out within weeks, with a possibility of infecting neighbouring hives. Under these circumstances, we had to take drastic action and perform a shook swarm in an attempt to save the hive.
The link below is a follow up video to this shook swarm video and shows that the action taken has been successful and the hive is thriving

We cut out all the frames which had brood in them, the remaining frames were kept in isolation for 4 weeks which should be long enough for any disease to die out, and re-used them. Cleaned boxes with hot washing soda water.

It can give that impression but this is typical of Chronic Bee paralysis virus which is now becoming quite common across the Country and we are all trying different ways to get the hives through this and back to good health

@@AM-tn8yu Sorry, we misinterpreted your question. In our case, the brood and all the comb would have been infected with the virus so we had to melt down all the wax and boil the frames in soda water. If the brood was healthy, we would have definitely used this to boost another colony. Have a look at this video from the Norfolk Honey Company and tune in at 9 mins: th-cam.com/video/P4HtEIoe_rg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheNorfolkHoneyCompany
