This is totaly sublime, shortwave paradise from yesteryear with all those haunting and poignant jingles from another time ,another dimension. Wonderful Wonderful 🙏❤️🏴🇬🇧 oct twenty four ✨️
This is a brilliant compendium! I heard these as a kid in the 1970s as my father waited for the approaching time and propagation. My favorite was West Germany, and so glad to now know the tweets of the bird were Italy. Thanks much from an radio engineer in Virginia USA.
Those RAI "birds" were quite peculiar. Especially because I read somewhere these are actually sounds made by a machine and not a recording of real birds.
So many good memories of these stations. On school nights I would put my ear phones on so my folks would not know I was staying up late to cruise the world. My trusty Eico 718 did a decent job. Now I am old and a Ham with over 200 countries confirmed . However still doesn't match the thrill of those days.. I wish there were more stations on the air now. I also would stay up and listen to AFRTS and it's daily Vietnam reports. I lay there wondering when I would end up there. Crazy times.
It's funny in the background of the British Jingle you can hear Radio Moscow trying to hijack the Airwaves. My dad used to do stuff with radio in the Nederlands and he remembers when Radio Moscow would try and hijack the Airwaves and so they would have the theme of Radio Moscow blasting through on the feedback.
@@REDARROW_A_Personal It’s Co Channel Interference, not “hijacking”. This is common, especially at night on MW and SW. For example, on 729 kHz, you can hear Radio Nacional de España and ERT Proto Programma at the same time. This is caused by a layer of the atmosphere disappearing. Another example is that on 1010 kHZ CFRB Toronto and WINS NYC could be heard at the same time during the night
Unbased as they were following the likes of radio free Europe which then adovoacged for fkn shock therapy and that's how u got modern e europe. Estonia was part of USSR. That sentence would've made sense if you were from Poland, which wasn't a part of the USSR, and wrote "Here in Poland, people used to such and such to break the USSR censorship. Cool stuff!"
Wonderful stuff. With state censorship so prevalent again these days, perhaps governments should consider returning to shortwave broadcasting once more..?
Questions about the 1st one: Where was the Soviet station’s transmitter in the background located in? Was the Soviet station targeting international listeners or a domestic station targeting Soviets?
I have a suggestion why you can't do the opening of the interval signal of the radios of all the countries of the world during the cold war most can be from the 50's to the 80's It's a good idea for your next video at least you can release it next week
Unlike the US, European radio required stations to have a formal identity code played on air on a certain schedule to make finding stations easier on an analog radio. Such things weren't common on US radio, where instead broadcasters would make up individual and stylized "jingles."
the 20th century is actually sooo melancholic, thank you for this important and interesting historical material
Thanks for bringing back memories of the way shortwave radio used to be
Listening to those interval signals brought back so many wonderful memories.

_THANK YOU SO MUCH!_ I really wanted a compilation of interval signals, I love them so much, thank you :).
What beautiful memories it brings back. Thank you
I never heard the Vatican radio ident before. It's absolutely lovely. Laudate Iesus Christus!
still in air
Am a Cold War nerd, so, thanks for the upload.

Where were you, back then?
I love how the USSRs tune is heard on the background of the uks
i want to help you but TH-cam does not allow me to

My favorite is Soviet Union, Sweden and East Germany. Ah, I miss the good old days of shortwave radio.

Here in Estonia, people used to tune in to YLE to break the USSR censorship. Cool stuff!

interesting how Italy is just birds, then "RAI - RadioTelevisione Italiana."
They still do the bird sound before regional news on *Radio3
@@LetsFixTechnologyAt least they kept that tradition.
Norway’s interval sounds like it would be in Minecraft

Loved the USSR one, rhis one is also great!
Wait did you do a video of interval signals of Cold War era Asia?
Questions about the 1st one:
Where was the Soviet station’s transmitter in the background located in?
Was the Soviet station targeting international listeners or a domestic station targeting Soviets?
7:18 If you listen very closely, you can hear another station in the background but it’s very faint. What station is it?
Nice old memories
6:56 I think that’s España Cani. Played that last year at my school. Didn’t know we played something from the Franco era
Yes. España Cañi is a traditional song of Spain, a pasodoble and was composed in 1923 before Spanish Civil War and Franco (1939-1975).
Anyone know the song in the Sweden interval?
"Ut i vida världen" by Ralph Lundsten
This is where many of those fake EAS video sound effects come from. Similar vibe too
May I ask why the woman is praying and later speaking in Russian in Monaco's radio signal?
Radio Monte Carlo carried programming in English, French, and Russian from Trans World Radio, which is a Christian missionary organisation.
Yugoslavia has "The Internationale" as jingle
おぉー!廃墟からの復活、東ドイツの国歌!
国破れたりとも国歌は偉大なり。
4:27 this sounds like something that Imaginary Soundscapes would generate

🗣️🔥 BBC 😳👃🏿 LONDON 🇬🇧
Radio Vatican 🎉
The Vatican's sounds like Bach
What were these used for
For Identifications mostly
But also to inform other stations that this frequency is in use
Unlike the US, European radio required stations to have a formal identity code played on air on a certain schedule to make finding stations easier on an analog radio. Such things weren't common on US radio, where instead broadcasters would make up individual and stylized "jingles."
@@johnroscoe2406 weird since I've been living in Europe my whole life and it's my first time hearing of this
@@super---. Yeah that is weird. Good thing I'm not wrong nor making this up then.
@@super---.Yes, these are from the 70s and 80s. London Calling is used in a Clash song.
Another one of these?
Anyways love the USSR!
Reminds me of stereotypical music across Europe
That's precisely why those stations used those pieces.
