Every one of your "Tips and Tricks" are so basic and useful to me (and all newer learners, I am sure). Thanks so much for them! Does it make sense for me to wait until the 1st of the month to join the on line sutdio group for billing purposes?

I'm so glad the tips are useful! You can join the studio anytime. Each month, you're charged on the day of the month you originally joined. For example, if you join on January 23, you will be billed again on February 23. I hope that answers your question. We'd love to have you!

01:00 Oh Laura, your thumb movement idea works extremely well for me. Indeed! So thank you! I have large hands so I thought I would not need to do it, and it's true that I can achieve the correct pitch without moving my thumb. However! Even moving my thumb just a small distance (about the width of my thumb) results in my pinky becoming relaxed, improving comfort, pitch control and vibrato.
Related: I've noticed Hilary Hahn doing thoughtful things with her thumb, maybe to do with optimising vibrato on a particular note, with no loss of tuning accuracy.

So glad it helps! I think keeping the thumb fluid and not stuck in one place also probably helps prevent a death grip and excessive tension!

@@MeadowlarkViolin I've continued using a mobile thumb ever since, for everything.
It's yet another thing to think about, but continues to deliver fourth finger benefits (sound clarity, intonation accuracy, less force, better vibrato).
Occasionally my third finger plays slightly sharp at the moment. I'm monitoring the situation. I'm expecting the problem to go away just by me being aware of it.

@@JSB2500 Great! I think eventually the thumb does learn to move without having to think about it constantly. Awareness is half the battle!

I noticed that some beginners practice without the bow, and hold the violin like a guitar. Their fingers are perpendicular to the neck, and their thumb is above their first finger. I wonder how much this slows their development as a player?

Thank you, in my hand is very simple to place the pinky alone. What is etremelly unconfortable for me is to put all 4 finger together. Is there anything I should do to solve it ?

Hey, I see your pinky is one of those, who are kind of "locked", like a hammer finger, where the middle knuckle is flat/locked in. I have that to. What is your opinion on that?
    Kind regards:)

It's manageable. I don't have the pinky strength I wish I had, but I try to focus on developing my stretching abilities with the 4th finger to compensate.
