Thank you very much, it is much more comfortable now. I have a long neck, I'm 6'2. Do you think I should buy a bigger shoulder rest? I'm using the one that comes with the Fiddlerman violin.

I can see how this would make one give up trying to play the violin. It is a very difficult instrument to play and adults have to give themselves time and patience to approach this instrument. Great players of this instrument usually have been playing since they were children. Slow and steady is the way to go. I want to learn this instrument and I have found it difficult to approach it. I will try again and be very, very patient with myself.

It’s taken me twenty years to realize it’s time to learn vibrato. Hell I’m still in first position.

Zino Francescatti must have fairly small hands .In Rond des Lutins (at 3.30) he has to bring the thumb around the neck to hold the top edge of the belly . He waves his pinky finger around too but that is all about tendons I expect . He does not have a shoulder rest getting in the way which can become an obstacle. Secret Shoulder Pads help though . All these famous players that keep secrets from us . Nobody mentions that .

I read once that Fritz Kreisler disliked playing in First Position. Smaller violins are a good alternative .I have an old cheap violin where I shortened the neck .It`s a complicated piece of carpentry but for me it made fourth finger reaches very easy .Higher up the fingerboard was of no interest .

Other TH-cam videos didn't explain stabilizing the violin first before attempting to try a vibrato. Most rookies including me are using their left hand to hold up the violin.... not relaxing. No wonder it never worked. It caused me MORE stress. 😂 thanks - great teaching!

Opening the mouth and walking around made a difference for me. Also light touch then increasing pressure of left fingers. Thanks

Your video has come just at the right time. My teacher and I have been trying to record my online exam submission for what seems like weeks. After my scales and technical exercises, my bow hand shakes, my stomach lurches and it is basically downhill from there 🫣😂 Hopefully, by incorporating some of your techniques, I can be calmer x x

Good reminders of bad habits I'm likely to slip into if I hadn't heard your warning. One other bit of advice comes to mind: Go as slowly as you need to in order to not make errors - you don't want to imprint mistakes into your muscle memory!

Very clear and helpful instructions, particularly the warnings about common errors! I've never heard "vibrato" pronounced this way.

My problem is retarded fingers. If I have 3rd or 4th finger on A and trying to get 1st finger on E it's like I'm playing twister with my fingers. How do I get them to cooperate and keep intonation?

I got a cheap violin to start with. It stayed out of tune all the time. I still sound like crap, but I have a nice violin
