  • This video documents and summarizes the research done by the UK Loss Prevention Council (LPC) on behalf of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to investigate the potential for fire spread up the outside of a multi-story building. The tests did not look at the commonplace problem of combustible façade materials.
The tests were performed on a full-sized building façade made of aluminum and other noncombustible components, with a room volume on the lower story experiencing a realistic ordinary combustibles fire.
The experimental facility was erected inside of a decommissioned Zeppelin hangar. It consisted of a 6.25-meter-wide façade with five mullion sections, enabling the investigation of bracket and perimeter firestopping details.
