    Well done, Eric...I can tell that you are a cinematographer, and love the narration. Which drone do you use to film your aerial shots? After watching several youtube videos on the GFX system, I have decided to dump most of my Sony Equipment for the medium format system with the GFX100s. Finally, a medium format (almost medium format) system is available at a somewhat affordable price, with reasonably fast autofocus, 5fps, and at a size that is similar to a DSLR. The superb GF lenses are also a huge draw for me!! I don't think I will regret jumping from the Sony Ship over to Fujifilm. Here in Indonesia (I live in Jakarta), there is a long waiting list, so I might not get mine until the end of March at the soonest. Which lens did you use for the portrait shoot?

    Isn't that spot where you shot Landscape Arch in the opening sequence "out of bounds"? The last few times that I have been to Landscape Arch, there was a fence up beyond which you were not to go.

    • @gameshoes
      @gameshoes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the only area that’s off limits is right below the arch. Though, there is no official path to where he was standing.

    • @R.Hogarth
      @R.Hogarth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gameshoes thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that the fenceline marked the "out of bounds" or "off limits" area and that no one was allowed beyond the fence.

    • @gameshoes
      @gameshoes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could still be off limits. As long as you're on the rocks and not damaging the soil, Arches doesn't seem to mind too much. Like when he was below the Delicate Arch, there's no path to there (going down the bowl is just way too steep to do it from above) but plenty of people do it.

    Lovely video! Seeing the camera turned from horizontal to vertical, and then back to horizontal (4:58-5:03), reminded me of my love of square format. The different framings might be superior for a given set, pose, or purpose, but these can be produced via cropping just prior to final output. Rotating the camera during a shoot to capture both framings means potentially recording the perfect expression on suboptimal framing. Shooting square is shooting “format RAW”. Hopefully, we will yet get something like a Hasselblad V1D.

    Loved the review, the storytelling and the images were all very good, if not excellent. However I have to admit I was quite shocked at the tripod you use, I mean on the Harley shoot you're using well over $11,000 worth of gear, the camera and lens alone are quite expensive. Granted they are not as heavy as the equipment I often use, but none the less I was confused and somewhat concerned at just how cheap and bad that tripod looks. I'm not sure the exact model of Manfrotto or why you chose it, and I myself made the mistake of buying a cheap tripod before. However I only made that mistake once before learning it was not a smart mistake to make. Now I'm talking about $450 Surui Carbon Fiber tripod, which I thought was okay and a good buy. However I was attaching a Nikon D5 and 400mm f/2.8E VR FL to a gimbal head, so about a $20,000 setup, thats not light, but luckily insured. After about a year of thankfully no issues, I was awaken to my mistake and how I had skipped and probably was lucky to not have at least an insurance claim. So I did some research and narrowed down my choices on an upgrade to an RRS or ProMediaGear tripod. I first bought a ProMediaGear monopod and fell in love, it was and is absolutely amazing, its 42mm diameter and 81in tall, yes its basically a tree trunk. However you can immediately feel the quality and stability differences and my images improved, especially those at lower shutter speed where I would need VR or image stabilization. I don't use a tripod often, but truth is every photographer needs a tripod here and there or sooner or later. I put off purchasing the PMG equivalent tripod to match my monopod due to the cost and cost to use case math in my head. I finally pulled the trigger and although I have over $2,500 invested in support and mainly (90%) use the monopod setup, I'm very happy. Obviously I took my mistake and advice from colleagues maybe a bit too seriously, but I highly recommend buying a better tripod, if not the best tripod you can possibly afford. Both Really Right Stuff and Pro Media Gear are clearly the best made tripods and monopods and you'll pay dearly for them, but they are both made in the USA and have great warranty's, support, etc. If I was a landscape and or portrait photographer I would definitely recommend a tripod upgrade, especially if you're attaching very expensive gear, because honestly good support is worth every hard earned penny. I'm sure everyone who will read this will either agree or have their own very similar story, I think pretty much every photographer has made the mistake of not buying the best support up front, and some even have made this mistake time and time again. It really does pay, to not do this, just get it right and get the best one you can possibly afford, as soon as you can.

    what filter system is that ? I would imagine that's a gradated ND you're using ? Also looks like you're stitching your panos without a nodal slide.

      @@ericbunch2645 thanks for the quick response. Yes, a Nodal slide would have helped you tremendously with parallax and stitching. Nice images taken for this video. and nice presentation, but every time you see a video about an expensive camera or a medium format camera. the video always has a similar feel to it visually and with the narration. talking about the feeling and the experience of using such a special camera with its fine detail and the magic of capturing the moment that will last a life time. I think I just wrote something better than the video lol. anyway. its a really nice camera. but you can have all those same feelings using any camera. because creating and the feeling you get from doing it can be with any gear. I wish in this video it said what lenses were used for each shot.

I hit 7 National parks that year and this was definitely a highlight. Planning another maybe next year so your video about the GFX is giving me the itch. Right now for landscapes I'm using a Z7. Researching online helps but until you actually put them in your hand and compare them that way, you will always wonder. You can't go wrong with either system in my opinion. Gear envy, it sucks. I might suggest that when you can rent both do it. Don't rush, be happy.

  • @denniswilliams4789
    @denniswilliams4789 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why you don't:
    The size of the files. 11,648 x 8736. Instagram uses 1350 x 1080.
    The price. $10,000 all in for the body and the 110mm f2 lens for those portraits of your family.
    You do not have usage which requires 100MP. How many times can that be said? Usage folks. Most likely you don't have content requiring that resolution either but you like the idea of it.
    You don't buy gear because some stocky bearded guy cooks one more meal over Sterno in 4k. Or take long weekends with your best bro hauling around a motorcycle to use as a prop for your art project.
    You don't buy gear to flex for you MWC friends.
    You just bought the GFX 50R...or Nikon D850, or Fujifilm XT-4 or some Canon or Sony mirrorless with 61MP... and you don't even use it to its maximum capabilities.
    Because you are a professional photographer and you know the difference between the idea of a thing and the truth of the thing. When the targeted customers stop hiring anyone delivering less than 100MP files then it is time to invest in a new kit. Until then nobody can tell the difference between a 46MP commercial head shot reduced for the internet and a 100MP commercial head shot reduced for the internet. Get a grip.
    Because recently all these nerds on TH-cam have started professing that film is not in fact dead and MF film is the ideal emotional photo taking experience. Digital is passé. TH-camrs would never misrepresent.
