    Phones like these need to be easily available at stores. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy with a tough otter case. I noticed a lot of phones others own that are broken or have cracked screens

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Years ago I had a G'z one Commando . Only one store out of a dozen where I lived before (fairly large city) had one available. I had an older Galaxy that I loved but it died on a backpacking trip. Thanks for watching !

      That's exactly what I have, Galaxy Note 4 with Otter case. It's still ticking like new. The only complaint about the phone is not with the phone but with the battery. It runs out of juice fairly quickly even with a new battery installed. Note 4 has a removable battery unlike the iPhone crap. iPhones are an expensive disposable, and glass cracks too easily.

    Thank you very much for your video. It wasn't a bunch of fluff talk to make a longer video telling us things that really aren't applicable...very refreshing👍
    One question that I do have though and I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere. With that adapter can you plug in earbuds that have allow you to talk hands free or do you need a handheld mic for that?
    Thank you in advance. Now I'm off to subscribe to your channel.

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are welcome and I do try to keep my content on point. The adapter will let you use ear buds or a heads free kit. You also can use a Bluetooth hands free kit with it out of the box. Not certain if a Bluetooth speaker mic will work or not. I hope this helps and thanks for watching !

    Great video, I noticed in the comments you also picked up a samsung xcover pro which is actually the other phone I'm considering. The hangup I keep having is power. Small solar is one thing, but stepping up any starts getting so pricey, bulky, and fragile.
    Is there any portion of the SHTF community in particular I should be looking for for compact heavier duty dynamo-style power generation?
    The $15 emergency radios manage the minuscule power requirements there, but... something a little more robust and with a higher wattage?

    Thanks for the review! I have been giving a hard look at the Kyocera Dura Force Pro 2, however, the XP8 may be a better option for me. I do like the powerful battery that is removable which the Kyocera doesn't have. The Kyocera has a non-removable 3240 mAh. I also like the lanyard capability of the XP8. I have not used the XP7 so I cannot honestly say. Thanks for watching !

      The XP7 is outdated now due to the limitations on the Android version which last on it was version 5.1.1 . I've used the XP7 for 6 years now and loved it however I cannot do mobile banking or use the GoPro app due to the outdated Android version. I have an XP8 on the way should be here in a couple of days and I been told I will be able to upgrade to Android version 10.

    I've had more Than one sonim phone and plenty of normal androids and iPhones. This phone is hands down the most durable phone I have ever seen. I have dropped it 150 times from 14 ft. Run over it with a truck. Crushed it with heavy sharp metal. It has some wear and tear but the screen has no protector and NO DAMAGE. Our company has 150 of them, no one has ever bested one by brut force alone. This phone will be here after the the earth stops spinning. Better than CAT and NOKIA.

    One thing that sucks this phone is not super secure you're not set it to Auto factory reset after incorrect passwords are entered

      I bought mine on eBay for 120 just in case it was to slow compared to my note. It's not fast..... Atm I'm outpacing the keyboard.... But for a work line I won't have to ever worry about messing it up. It works ok enough to look past itsflaws to become a beast phone.

    It would be nice if Sonim partnered up with a satellite company like Iridium or Inmarsat. They should have dual sim. Sim 1 should be for your average carrier such as Verizon, AT&T, etc., and Sim 2 should be for your satellite carrier. Just in case you decide to go off-grid. Just a thought. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️😬

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The phone is dual sim. You can get Verizon and ATT in the same device with a little work from what I understand. Thanks for watching !

    • @survivalcomms

      You will need a sat capable device for iridium however

    Sonim xp8 or Cat S61 ??

    • @survivalcomms
      @survivalcomms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had someone else ask me that the other day. I have no experience with the CAT S61 so It would not be fair IMHO to recommend one other the other. Personally I feel like you would be served well with either- its all about what fits your own specs. The Sonim is built like a tank and has excellent battery life. It has considerable weight and heft however. Thanks for watching !

      @@survivalcomms Thank you for the reply. I believe the Sonim would work great, and I see it's on Verizon which is my carrier. Sounds like a solid device that will hold up.

      The Cat is advertised to be able to work at -15 degrees F and looking at the XP8's specx the Sonim doesn't. Something I need. But I heard about the complaints about some CAT phones.

    I have an XP8. Please don't buy one. I have been through 3 units, each dying at random due to irrepairable software problems. Despite the theoretically great warranty, every claim I have been able to get through was with my service provider, Sonim has been non-communicative and done nothing, to the point that I can assume they will never honour a warranty claim. In short, great idea for a phone, physically tough, but a total failure in the long term. Don't waste your money.
