    1. Yes ;]
    2. You can certainly do more if you want to either make faster progress or learn techniques/make use of methods that are not covered here. If you're interested in that, I recommend my technique CDs (link in description).

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    What she's described does not necessarily indicate 'damaged vocal folds.'
    My playing is not too fast to follow; most beginners have no trouble following along because I start slowly.
    However, if you have deficient technique and use excessive external musculature, it may be hard to keep up.
    Lastly, a fast tempo has no potential to cause vocal damage; in fact, a brisk tempo is ideal for inducing safe tone production free from heavy muscle influence (and for increasing vocal dexterity).

    @HebaE24 Before you start, tell her you're going to be practicing singing for a few minutes. Then she'll know what you're doing and instead of feeling shy, you'll feel her support!

    I have to thank you so much for making learning all these singing techniques so easy, and understanding. Not to mention, the amount of quality that comes out of your lessons. I bought a few of your CD's. I thank you so much. I could sing before, but never like i can now. You are truly amazing man.

    Wow. I used to be a musical theater singer & sang with a band. I could sing from alto through top soprano. I considered myself an advanced vocalist. I quit singing for years due to health issues. Now I am trying to get back into it. I have been able to stick with u all the way through the octives & other runs, but this one had my head swimming!

    I start you off with an example of how it's done, but after that it's important that you be able to pay very close attention to what's happening with your own voice- without mine in the way.

    Hey - the link in the description was broken, but I just fixed it! Sorry about that. The lessons aren't on iTunes at the moment, but most people rather like the physical CD so they can practice in the car.
    Cheers!

    awesome to hear the first bit! as for the rest, remember that you're a human instrument, so you'll have your on and off days. don't let it get you down too much. just keep pushing forward!

  • @SaherGalt

    If you're referring to breathiness- as you sing louder, the amount of breath to tone increases, that's a bit of a problem. But if you just mean that you run out of air faster on the louder notes, that's unavoidable. It will always take more air pressure to create a louder sound.

    4th day and my range is already moving up! thanks!!! :D

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    The anticipation is worse than actually doing it; force yourself the first few times, especially in the knowledge that it'll get easier.
    As for your brother, just ignore him. People will never stop trying to tear you down...so you might as well do what you want anyway.

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have several other technique videos- check my main page for those. Will be posting new ones soon, too.

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Falsetto won't damage your voice unless you're blowing a lot of excess breath through or straining (this especially can happen when reaching for the very high notes)...
    John Frusciante's falsetto is fine to mimic, but be careful of his "screech" - that can damage your voice no matter how you approach it!
    You would do well just to focus on proper vocal technique; your own personal style will undoubtedly develop ;]

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    See my video called "Singing Lesson: how to sing high notes!" It covers the difference between head voice and chest voice.
    And the concept of 'diaphragm singing' is discussed more extensively on my technique CDs.

    I would really love to hear you sing Extreme's "More Than Words" I've recently stumbled accross the song and fell in love with it. I thought you would sound great sining it and I would love to hear it.

  • @KatharinaHarer
    @KatharinaHarer 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think my singing voice already improved considerably after doing these exercises for a week now. My voice sounds much more settled, even and confident and more "shaped". I used to have a vocal coach who was an opera singer and she did the same exact exercises with me. Great to stumble upon them again, I should have never stopped doing them.. I thought exercises weren't that important, boy was I wrong..

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's good to let your vibrato come out- if it's natural and relaxed. Don't hold it back.

  • @saintThia
    @saintThia 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    The crescendo decrecendo is a very good exercise but is hard to keep pitch! I am using my own keyboard for this but it really helps!

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @akinra11 It's not a good idea to sing to the point of strain. With proper technique and practice, you'll be able to get higher without strain. Until then, leave off on the notes that feel tense.

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just meant each time through the exercise. Rendition was probably not the precise word I was after, so my apologies for the confusion!

  • @sivmeister
    @sivmeister 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should ask them if they can be understanding and bear with you on it. Most of the time the people around you are much more encouraging than you might think.
    Tell them "If something is worth doing, then it's worth doing badly until you get it right". Tell them this is something you feel is worth doing.

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    only one thing,i don't want to be bad,and you're very good and talented,and it helps us all the exercise,but ppl would like it more to see you more smilling,well i mean not pretending that you're happy but it is important to LOVE your job!It makes a huge difference,when somebody feels that you're really bored doing these exercises won't feel comfortably...it just a small detail ive noticed,my previous vocal teacher was bored of her job and she liked wastng time,so,im searching for a new one...

  • @SaherGalt
    @SaherGalt  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try talking on pitch. To understand how that feels, in your natural speaking voice, notice how the pitch goes up and down (like when asking a question, you inflect upward at the end).
    This is how your approach to low notes should feel.

    I am not happy with my singing abilities and will be ordering your CD and practicing these lessons all the time.
    You can hear my singing on my page now, but I always hear pitch problems and weakness in my voice, etc..
    I'll probably post some of me singing these lessons since I think it's pretty funny when I screw up. Also, that will help track my progress.
    Great job by the way! Thanks!

    The decrescendo is the only thing I seem to be struggling with... anyone else? Probably in the upper half of so of my range I can't really tone it down without just cutting off really quickly. Kind of feel like the note is running away from me lol.
    Awesome videos... I think I'll be visiting all of your singing videos once a day. I've done it for a few days and my voice already feels a little better.

    I think in singing terms especially, dynamics refers to a lot more than just volume. It's also stylistic - the emotion and feel of the performance too. Think that's important to note as it's these dynamics that really make a performance special. x

    Hey man thanks for the lessons; I was having some troubles warming up my voice and singing some high notes but now I'm getting a lot better.
    I listened to your music, it is pretty cool but I think you should play it a step or half a step down, it should sound harder and tighter.
    Good luck, best whishes and thanks mate.

    Be sure to keep lots of liquid handy when you're singing, as a dry throat can kinda feel like you're losing your voice. Also, be sure you're not trying to sing uncomfortably out of your range, as that will make you lose your voice.

  • @benoz11
    @benoz11 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @omjiloveyousupper Sore throat usually comes from putting too much strain on your throat for the high notes, try pushing the air out from lower instead of squeezing your throat to do it, or sit out on the high notes and you will eventually be able to do them when you become better at singing. Not a professional but this is something I've noticed, feel free to correct me or add anything anyone.

    You know i just realized why I like your videos more than everyone else i've seen no offense some are great vocalist. You truly have music in your soul like me. I have been playing guitar since i was 6..im 28 now and just getting into the vocalist side of things. have years of lyrics I'd wrote though. Since I have now (just now) have my own instrumental voice(you know what i mean) I want to have my own style of singing not imitating others voices. but my own that is only 1 of :) me

    Great exercises! Thanks a lot, really... i think they're great to exercise de "confusion" of melodies that really belong to the song but confuse an unexperienced vocal system :P ... when we have to keep a note without the influence of the backgroud melody... That first exercise helps a lot :D
    And also when, in a song, we have to vary, make it quickly... That second exercise is great... Thanks and sorry for my bad english:S - portuguese girl :P

    @xoShannnon these exercises just help you gain full control over your voice and all the muscles you use to sing. So just like you will get better at determining notes and how to sing them clearer, you will get better with the sound of your voice in general to become better in total :)

    I'm not SBGalt but i've been singing for a while, as you go up, no matter what genre of music you do, you slip into mix and head voice
    So as you go up yes you're supposed to go into a mixier/headier voice, btw head voice and falsetto are not the same, falsetto is more breathy and head voice is stronger
