  • I set out to try to hit every (or most of) the doubles on Mailboxes near the University of Santa Cruz. I thought that seeing a beginner's perspective might be helpful to those who are trying to gain confidence hitting doubles and riding in general.

Good advice. Was there a few weeks ago for the first time. I will follow and try your suggestions. Thanks.

First double I ever hit was on Mailboxes. Did it by accident.

Cool vid bro. I live in San Jo and am also a beginner mtn biker. So you said your focus is keeping your back vertical on most jumps? Just want to make sure I understand so I can try next time. Thanks

Sick man! Maybe it makes sense if I say that your back should be vertical and your weight should be distributed so that you can push and pull the handle bars while in the air. That way you wont go OTB and can control how you land! Just make sure you dont let the jump decide how your body is positioned.

@@BrendanGood Cool, thanks! So weight over the pedals, feet level and use a push and pull motion with the handlebar. Can't wait to try it out!

key word here is, beginners thoughts on jumping. almost like a first time welder teaching me how to weld from his experience, could be doing it completely wrong and would have no idea. yanking on the bars is quite literally the worst possible feedback while teaching jumps, I know us boys got a good arm and a bad one. pulling up will undoubtedly make one of the bars go up more than the other, consistency is key when jumping. sure, you can go into any small jump and yank with speed and ride out of it, however youll be stuck and unable to progress because of this bad form. just pointing out the obvious.
this is also 2 years ago and im sure u have made an update however its just very naive to make a how to video when u have no idea what u r talking about. have a good one!

The title is literally “beginners perspective” so I think it’s admitting that it would be naive by definition. It was from my perspective of only riding for 3 months… so it’s more like a beginner welder sharing his first experiences with welding, not “masterclass welder teaching you everything about welding”. Understand your perspective but think about the context… it’s not a serious tutorial.

the mailboxes jumps are so messed up now. the lips are so blown. other than that all of them are pretty easy.

Bgood, tag whatever you want homie. Do what you do. Thanks for making this video, I've been progressing myself on mailboxes as well. Seeing you do the last few I haven't was helpful. If you want to bomb I'm in Oakland but looking to put my name up in UCSC as well. Find me on strava and we can progress together.

nice video, but you dont need to tag the location.

I agree with this. I’m also guilty here. Recently with the massive mobs out there too, our spots are getting way to ‘blown up’
