    Thank you George for finally doing this stacked bubble plate system. And thanks to Mile High for producing perhaps the best bubble plate column still in this size.     You have seriously made education an art!!! You talk and I understand. The way you break things down and explain things just makes prefect sense. The whole setup looks totally scary and I would never consider using it. But when you break it down into the jobs everything does it is easy to understand.     Glad I watched this video. Just went and checked my newly assembled (& yet to be used) still with 4 x bubble plates in a glass tower as part of the reflux column, and the top bubble plate is right under the dephlegmator - somebody has assembled the bubble plate stack together incorrectly. Thankyou George, you are a constant source of good information. Looks like I'm going to have fun pulling apart the bubble plate stack tomorrow :(

    You can put the flow control on the top or the bottom but never on the input side. You always control flow with the output.

    Food for thought. Running full refux. PID controler running refux water pump. Would allow you to walk your temp up after you've stacked the column and make cuts based on head temp. In addition, it would automatically maintain head temp. Thoughts?

    Thanks for the tutorial George. Very interesting as I only own a T500 and that seems to work backwards to this type of still. It also claims if I use Pure Turbo Yeast, Carbon and Turbo finings, I wont get any foreshots, heads or tails, which I have found wrong info on. Would love to know your thoughts.

    I need to learn more about water source, cooling water, and pumping the water. I was planning on use a outside hose right outside where I am going to use the still. Any suggestions for someone that is nowhere near as mechanically inclined as you? Thanks!

    in your video for the reflux still you controlled your water flow thru a valve on the inlet side of the reflux condensor is it different for bubble plates or a small error?

    In a cross tube the heat chases the water out of the tubes so the valve on the output helps keep em full

    Hi , I would like to know what temperature the water flow running in the condenser should be maintained at ? You mentioned anything less than 70 degrees! Is it C grade or Fahrenheit ?

    Hi George, I think I mentioned on a previous video (but I don't think it was the one that was discussed), but does good grade silicone you could buy online leak chemicals. I think we all want to make our own gaskets rather than the still dough or the PTFE tape gasket. Saying that I have found it so much easier to just wrap the lip with PTFE tape instead of making a gasket. Obviously this is for distilling water 😁

    What about using a T connector on the cooling line. Then putting the straight forward line into the deflagrator leaving the turn for the line condenser. Would that mean you keep more head pressure on the deflagrator which you are going to control via the ball exit valve. Of course what you have is working, my suggestion would be more for someone that only had a T and what would be the best way to use it.

    Hey George, When running a 26 gallon still do you throw away the first 200 milliliters like you do with a 8 gallon still ? Can you post a chart as to how many milliliters you throw away with a 8 gallon 26 gallon 50 gallon 100 gallon still, thanks.

    So even though there are 2 ways to run this. Which is the best way? I think the second method would work better, then you don’t have to work “backwards”. So my instincts tell me to turn dephelg on right away.
    If you work backwards are you collecting all the foreshots , or do you have to do it once more?
    Any thoughts?

    Question if you ran this still with a PID controller would you install the temperature probe above the dephlegmator or would the cool water running through it confuse the PID? I'm asking for a friend.....

    George, I was contemplating a parrot, but I came across a video on how it smears the cuts. I think he used food coloring in his experiment. Just curious your take on this...

      Smearing can be challenging. That is why most times the parrot is emptied during cuts or not used until hearts are collected. In this set up the parrot can be emptied at each cut which avoids smearing all together.

    George, the Mile High temperature controller does not appear to have a temperature sensor to control the heat been produced. Would you recommend this or the PID units you build (I'm building one) instead?

      Sure hope so. I got parts for a dual element PID with a 2" K-type 1/2"NPT probe.

      PID’s to my knowledge “learns” patterns and repeats them. Not a fan because my mash %’s are different and also volumes. So it kinda different over time. Had massive problems with it overshooting, then I’d cut the power and it doesn’t want to come back up to temp and hold it there.
      I LOVE the control of my potentiometer. I use a Blichmann Brewcommander and interchange it from brew kettles to still.

    what fitting did you use to connect the ball valve to the dephlegmator input? mine doesn't have internal threads so i can only clamp hose around the outside of the nipple

    I'm confused about your explanation on the water flow through the dephlegmator. I understand putting hte inflow at the bottom (otherwise it drains straight out without filling it up). But why put the valve on the outflow and not the input. Having pressurised water (normal town supply) coming in the bottom and having hte valve off will create pressure in the dephlegmator as the cold water heats up. If you put the valve on the iinlet at the bottom to control the flow of water into the dephlegmator. Then when you stop the flow the expanding water just flows out the outlet at the top and doesn't create any pressure in the dephlegmator.

      The pressure you refer to is not enough to compress water. You could put the valve in either place with the same results. I chose to put it on the outflow.

    George, I don't quite get the [ heads ] concept in a reflux,, it seems to me since you reflux the the product, past the point of methanol that there is none going to be in the output, it would just drop back into the wash, while in full reflux till it gets to 173 degree the vapors have been dropped back down and would not return until - unless you allow it to drop to a temp of approx. below 165 degree, which you should have stopped collecting before that ever happened,, what is wrong with my thinking on this?? #HAPPYDISTILLING
