I have a MacBookPro (late 2008). I created 2 partitions on the disk. In the first partition i installed OpenCore Legacy patcher and that allowed me to install MacOS Ventura. In the second partition i installed Linux Mint XFCE. Everything is supported and works fine under Mint & Ventura - even the ancient iSight camera on these macbooks!
Yes... BUT, the issues begin right there.... if you want to run using NVidia correct GPU drivers , then you have lot of work ahead ... OR, you will be using nuveau generic driver which is going to keep your Macbook hot as hell and the FAN will never stops ...
only works on single gpu. If you have a older mackbook pro with duo dedicated gpus, the installation will be fine , but after restart , you only boot in the second screen which is really annoying.
after i installed umbutu i then installed etcher then tried to select umbutu file as demonstrated and i got an error message stating "metadata is not an action" and it wouldnt go any further
I tried this today but never got to the install page. I did get the initial black screen asking to select try or install. Then the pink jelly fish. Unfortunately it then reverted to a black screen with lots of fail messages saying remove installation drive and press enter. Removing the drive without any possibility to unmount crashed the MacBook Pro. Any clues?
Ok, I installed Linux Mint on my iMac, and what about the cooling fans, how to make them work properly? Because my iMac is very hot and the fans are working, but they are spinning at the lowest speed. Maybe you know how to solve this problem?
My Mac Pro 3.1 recognize keyboard after initialization, after white screen with question mark folder and can’t access boot menu to select usb for Ubuntu someone help ?
Hardware that does not support will result in heat, and the motherboard will turn off completely without fan rotation like the usual light damage. I used to try it in 2022 with the latest macos. The fan keeps spinning because the processor already knows. Want to use 16GB ram and SSD won’t last your machine long
Honestly, the battery on my Macbook has been needing replacement for awhile so most of the time I carry my charger. With that being said I have not seen any difference in battery usage if anything maybe a little better.
I'm considering to install Linux over my MacBook Pro Late 2013... That's because it doesn't support anymore the latest OSX versions nor package manager like HomeBrew. The machine is still ok and I am very upset about this situation (typical Apple crap policy).. Do you think it makes sense? A 10 years old Mac can be considered "an old Mac" by your opinion? What about using a disk partition instead? :)
Have you installed..? @@nabeelsaeed3181 I have a macbook pro early 2013, and I have installed it twice now. It works for about a day and then I get a blinking cursor after boot. My first advice for if you install linux is after the installation make that the grub menu always shows on boot, else it can be a real pain to get into recovery mode. As of now I tried to fix my laptop all evening and I might switch back to osx sadly enough.
Oh, I know what you mean. Learn Linux TV says it that way and that’s who I first started watching. I have heard it said different ways too but how I saw it doesn’t really matter as long as the information helps.
I think you should have put more effort into a video like this. It's ultra low effort and doesn't communicate any valuable information on issues that people typically run into in this process. You don't talk about SIP. You don't explain the commands you're running. I don't think you actually know what you're talking about. The giveaway for that was "this should work with any linux distro." That is completely false. If you don't believe me, make this same video for gentoo, arch, etc; actually show the process and test the machine afterwards. This video is misleading and a normie will probably run into an issue that they have no idea how to begin solving. That is one way to learn, but there is more to this than presented here.
"This should work with nearly any Linux distribution" is the actual statement. 'Should' being the operative word. Nothing misleading or completely false. The video does not claim to be a super in-depth video, he shows how to install ubuntu on an old Macbook Pro. His process worked perfectly for me using ubuntu.
I mean I get you’re probably a purist but come on lol… this video is absolutely perfect for Ubuntu installation. Given your comment, you probably already know this information and are just purely hating on this guy for providing free content. Come on…
literally everyone, except you apparently, thinks exactly that about mac. in mainstream, linux is the hacker os, only used by technical pros and command line wizards. in real life it's just yet another operating system, with a lot of customizability.

I've done this with 3 MacBook Pros and two Mac Minis using Zorin OS and Fedora.
Linux Mint runs flawlessly on unsupported Imacs
