Indeed, when Placido met her, she had already been named the Best Soprano of Mexico, and when he started dating her, he was considered her prince consort. In every interview of her I've found, she makes it very clear, with a smile, that she decided early on that his career was going to be very important, based on early reaction to him from the opera houses and audiences, so, with no regrets at all, she chose to raise their babies and support his career 110%. Pour avoir plusieurs versions de "traviata " dont une avec Callas et Alfredo Kraus , je préfère de loin celle de Carlos Kleiber avec Iléana cotrubas et Placido . Tant pis si l'Alfredo de Domingo n'est pas une référence comme le prétend l'expert "Munoz. " C'est cette version que j'aime la plus I.Cotrubas est une merveilleuse Violetta ,Placido un Alfredo passionnant ,il transmet les émotions comme nul autre chanteur et C. Kleiber un chef d'orchestre hors pair. J'adore Placido , si je me passionne pour l'opéra depuis de nombreuses années c'est grâce à lui .Son livre "mes quarante premières années "m'ont appris beaucoup ,celui de" mes rôles d'opéra aussi" et je possède de nombreuses intégrales avec DOMINGO .

I love watching the behind the scenes stuff on Metropolitan Opera performances especially the good old days under James Levine's baton 1980s and early 90s. This performance of Traviata with Placido Domingo Ileana Contrubas (I believe the Germont was Cornell McNeil) was from about 1983. I would like to find the full performance on TH-cam but can't seem to find it anywhere.
Rachel Paray It's from 1981. Cotrubas herself admitted that the day of the performance she was not in good voice. I have it on VCR TAPE. It was never released by the Met on DVD sad to say. How ever on U Tube there are scenes of the 1981 performance with this cast, Arnold Bourbon Amaral

I could not agree more. I thought this was a segment from a documentary titled "A Year in the Life of Placido Domingo" but I have since found said documentary and this is not in it. It would be a slam dunk Fair Use upload, because of how long ago it was recorded, so uploading the whole document would be of great educational and historical value. But, I think this uploader is either dead, has lost the password or just plain abandoned the channel years ago. A true pity. Paz y salud.

Precisamente esta ópera no era para su voz. Esto es la publicidad para la grabación de estudio q saco despues. No es un Alfredo de referencia.
Placido un pésimo alfredo, sin la elegancia y el estilo necesario para el papel.
Puro marketing.
