I've been caught out swapping shells too. For autos and pumps I tend to just use a do-all cartridge now; for the 3.5 inch 12 bore 42g of #1's is a good option for everything.
Mistake or hesitate to shoot a hen comes with a surprised result, eh? Happens to the best of us. Unfortunately the dog couldn’t find that sneaky black, it happens occasionally. Good hunt though.
Biologists put bands on birds with unique numbers and record their age and location they were banded, so when a band is recovered (through hunting), you and the biologists can get a record of where they've traveled and how old they are.

Congrats on the banded mallard!
Day one was a really nice bag for just scratching them out where you find them.
Nice work!!! The last three ducks that were banded that I've killed were all hen mallards, and I shoot very few hens...Maybe that's a mistake!
Just watched your hunts for the first time and subscribed. What State are you hunting? Keep them coming!!

Why do you thump the shotgun stock when the ducks are close? Gun froze up?
That's what activates the Shotkam gun camera
