I actually got lost on a school mountain field trip when I was around Eliana's age. I spent about 8 hours alone in a storm with no map or phone after my buddy and the teacher had ditched me. I got mild/moderate hypothermia and ended up taking the wrong path. It was a narrow rocky path with steep drops on either side and volcanic lakes at the bottom however it was too foggy to see anything which lead me to freak out and start thinking about my death so I decided to turn back and go to the village for help. I approached this river that had to be crossed to get to the village but I was already freezing and barely had any energy left in me at this point. I was getting ready to cross when I saw these blurry figures in the distance that were shouting at me. I thought it was a group of tourists but it turned out to be some guys from my class asking if I was okay. They saw that I was freezing so we found a sheltered spot and sat by the fire until I had warmed up enough to carry on. When we got reception, the boys rang my teacher who was at the hut which was 4 hours away and it was 8pm at this point so he told us to go to the village and he'd get the van and pick us up from there. On the walk back to the hut, the teacher was yelling at me to hurry up cause he needed to get back to the class who were inside a nice warm hut with a fire and I was in pain from being frozen and alone so that still pisses me off to this day.
It's just crazy how different that situation would've gone if I hadn't turned back at the exact moment that I did. I would've never met up with the boys and would've been at the back of my class and either made it to the village around 9pm and had to look for someone, my teacher would've hopefully called search and rescue, or I would've collapsed or gotten injured.

@@yourejoking905 Yeah probably should've reported the incident but instead I didn't tell anyone and had to deal with him for the rest of the school year. Would've been a different story though if the boys didn't find me but it was 5 1/2 years ago now.

@@krazykaash It definitely happened. It was on May 5th 2016 when I was 15 at Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. I am a quiet person so I kept it to myself but people did find out cause my teacher told his other class that a student got lost but he didn't know the full story and no one knew the student and I think the boys kept it to themselves as well which was odd for high school. Us 5 never really talked about it and just went back to our normal lives where we didn't interact cause they were in none of my classes. They had a different experience to me though but one of them did hurt his foot. I only really talked to Nathan afterwards who would check up on me sometimes.
