If you really want heated rivalries, you should have atleast had the: Old Firm or Rangers vs Celtic, Red Star vs Partizan and Fenerbahce vs Galatasaray. Those rivalries lead to deaths, not just bad blood during the game, unlike the ones shown in the video.

rangers vs. celtic invented the very notion of 'a heated rivalry in sport'. I can't think of an example prior to theirs.

The closest thing we have to The Old Firm in the hockey world is Montrèal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs. Been going strong for a century now.
Between us, it's the history of conflict between English and French, Protestant and Catholic, that's been going on since before Canada was even a country.
It's an old hatred that's passed down from father to son down the generations. When I'm not supporting the Habs, I'm supporting whoever is playing the Leafs. It wouldn't matter if both of us were at the bottom of the league. If we beat them, all is right with the world.
The rivalry is so ingrained in Canadian culture that there's even a children's book based around it, called "The Hockey Sweater".

The reason Celtic vs Rangers is not on here is Rangers went out of existence in 2012... ask SIRI on your phones. There is a new club called Servco playing out of Ipox but they have only been around 4 years so there is no rivals in Glasgow. Aberdeen vs Celtic is the biggest game in Scotland there days. x

+John Oshea what? The steelers have lost 4 of the most recent 5 matchups recently but historically we have a winning record vs the ravens. The Steelers also are 3-1 against them in the playoffs and have never lost to the Bengals in the playoffs. Also Roethlisberger won 7 straight against the Ravens and that was a pretty recent streak. The ravens have beaten the steelers usually when Roethlisberger is hurt.

Boca VS river plate should easily be #1 on this list if we're truly talking about HEATED rivalries. There's just so many sports in the US that rivalries in hockey, football, Baseball, basketball, etc.. dont get the hype that this matchup does. Argentina as a country (regardless of what team you cheer for) watches these two teams go at it. Obviously there's better soccer teams in terms of skill in the world, but the intensity these players play and the atmosphere that's shown in the stadiums during this game is unreal and I don't think it can be topped. Look it up yourself. And of course, you can't forget about these two teams fan bases. They are crazy. The amount of hate they have for eachother is often enough to kill one another for their respective colours.. supporting one of these teams is like joining a gang. wearing one teams colours in public is dangerous and shouldn't be done unless you're looking for trouble. Craziest rivalry in the world.

Don't blame watchmojo as they are American based, but they missed some huge rivalries in football here. I agree Barcelona and Madrid is up there, due to political involvement and how it literally splits Spain. Old firm takes it for me though (rangers v celtic in scotland) because of the religious implications and how they divide the entire UK and Ireland not just Scotland. Also, West Ham v Millwall is definately one of the most heated because of their respective firms in the 80s, both having two of the biggest and most dangerous hooligan firms, and the second city derby between Birmingham and Aston Villa up there for most heated and hatred. Liverpool v man u is bad but not the worst, man u v man city is bigger now in my eyes.

@@natehenderson4243 growing up it was 1 game a season now since interleague play was introduced its 6 games. 3 at Wrigley and 3 at the Cell (Comisky Park) which has made this rivalry more intense especially after 05 when my Sox won the series. Some of the biggest bench clear brawls in mlb history have occurred between the cubs/ sox. This rivalry has been in existence for over 100 years and started when the then White Stocking owner helped found the American League. That when the Cubs were born as the National League team and the White Stockings became the White Socks then later changed to White Sox. Defiantly right about L.A.L. / L.A.C. they play alot more and always seem to be heated.
