  • 300-fight journeyman Peter Buckley fought a who’s who of British boxing.
In his long career, he was matched with prospects, contenders, future champions and even future Hall of Famers. He met the likes of Naseem Hamed, Duke McKenzie, Acelino Freitas, Spencer Oliver, Lee Selby, Derry Mathews and countless others.
Often he’d take a call at short notice to save a show but he was written off at his peril, if he fancied his chances you had a battle on your hands.
Here, Buckley - King of the Journeyman - talks about the subculture of British boxing, life in the blue corner and reaching his incredible milestone.

It's warriors like Buckley who keep the Boxing World turning. Real unsung heroes of the Sport.

It is easy to laugh to his record of 238 losses. Then it becomes awe-inspiring to see none of them were knock-outs and he quit at neat 300 fights. True athlete who simply earned his living testing promising fighters and was obviously built for it.

hundreds of losses and with all of his marbles obviously intact, never KO'd - a man who knew his craft and undoubtedly a defensive master.

Loved this. Great to hear some old heads from Brum like Rocky Lawlor and Nobby Nobbs get a mention too. Brought back some great memories.

What a brilliant interview. I’ve been educated by Peter Buckley by gaining a real insight to his life as a ‘journeyman’ boxer who, along the way, educated (educated being the key word), tens, if not hundreds of fighters along the way. Amazing. I’ll be buying the book. Tris Dixon - great interviewer 🥊
