- Ricky Hatton is a British sporting icon who was known for his huge fanbase. Tens of thousands of supporters would flock to the Mancunians fights, whether it was home in Manchester or in Las Vegas, and they saw him fight the likes of Kostya Tszyu, Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton.
Here, in colourful detail, Ricky recalls the highs of his incredible career and the lows of a personal life that saw him contemplate suicide through his darkest days.
Now the father to a young pro, Campbell Hatton, he also trains fighters and has maintained his place in the hearts of the nation as one of the best-loved fighters ever out of the United Kingdom.

I grew up watching Ricky, some of my favourite boxing memories are because of Ricky and I’m proud that I got to witness the special atmosphere he generated at the M.E.N. There will never be another. There’s only one!!

It was one hell of a ride that Ricky took us on! So many great nights. I know he got down on himself after the losses and felt like he’d let us down. I don’t know what it is that he thought we expected from him? All he ever did us was proud and he still does. Nothing but love for the man.

I’ve listened to all of these episodes & I honestly think Tris is the best at it because he knows the sport & the boxers inside out , you can tell people get bored answering questions to people that are not really interested in the answer but Tris is actually interested & it shows

The most well loved and supported British fighter ever. Did it effortlessly. Just stayed himself. Fought Mayweather AND Pacquiao in their primes (I know Mayweather had a bit of time out but he looked as good as I'd ever seen him against Ricky). Fantastic story

Imagine having mental health after achieving everything you ever wanted to in the sport, i.e Ricky Hatton and Tyson fury and frank bruno, maybe you should look in to the people that stuggle with it that didn’t get to achieve what they wanted to in the sport through no fault of there own???

Is Tris trying t get boxing band with his book to make a few quid for himself and get the do gooders on board. Boxers are responsible for there own choices in life there enough people trying to get boxing band shame one of or own trying to do it too. Love the podcasts and what he done for boxing news
I can only guess you have never fought and understand the consequences of long career..training methods and cultures we have in boxing. Im 39 in 2 months and have been competing for 24 years..the book has been very enlightening for me. It has also helped me change the methods i use to coach my students. There is a massive elephant in the room that nobody speaks of in Boxing...this book is very important education to fighters and coaches. Lastly i highly recommend the book! Tris spends alot of time documenting past fighters to shed light on the issues of head trauma/CTE
@@skud187 boxed and trained all my life, just think people can make there own decisions and with all the do gooders trying to get everything now days one of our own is not helping, people can’t live in glass houses and be denied the sports they enjoy. What about other people with dementia who never boxed what can ya blame that on or the boxers ie jake lamotta who had some brutal contests and live to a good old age.
@@richardwetton4323 I wish there were more examples of Lamota, but sadly theres more Toneys, Holyfields, Bowes! I fought as a pro Thai boxer for 24 years and had brutal wars in the gym and ring..last 3 years transitioning into boxing and now have my pro card..just because i have my faculties and im ok cognitively (allbeit memory is shocking) i have to ask myself serious questions? Are these methods correct? I know the culture around it is wrong..hardly anyone does technical spars..im all for the sport, just think the methods and culture need revising. A good freind who is a world renowned coach once said "a fight is like a car crash" you gotta prepare them...but in small doses...they cant be open sparring all the time...

My thing is and I like tris Dixon like the pods and done a cracking job at boxing news, my thing is is a boxing man putting a spot light on the sport that could potentially ruin it for people who love it, and he’s gonna make a few quid out of it. There enough people want boxing banned. When I boxed as well as everyone else and other sports rugby wrestling yank football etc ya know what your getting into and that’s on the individual. How things are going kids at school won’t be able to write there name without gloves on.
@@richardwetton4323 I am totally against boxing/combat sports being banned..i grew up on a heroin infested estate in a single parent family and am a product of how the sport can change lives for kids especially those who were bullied (me) its unfortunate amd fortunate that it is someone in boxing having this conversation...but i cant think of a better person given his own journey and time spent with these legends. At the moment there is no dialogue which we need..we cant have nothing or the likes of Ted Cheeseman who is almost certainly enroute for some serious health issues down the line..the methods and culture needs to adapt and change.. i know lads who will box on a weekend...lose and 2 days later sparring like animals because of the "warrior code" there is alot of toxic masculinity issues we all need to address. Ofcourse there are risks and we accept them as the late great Nazim Richards said "cant swim without getting wet" but we need to be smarter

Years ago he claimed he was winning the 2nd round by a country mile his words granted he may if been unwell at the time

At 140 blatantly ducked witter which would of been a massive unification fight he knew his style was all wrong for him.

It is 100% true that Ricky’s late stage career performances would have been a lot better if he didn’t balloon up and down in weight. Abusing his body as he did.
You should be working on technique and tactics from day 1.
Not having to run a fat camp everytime you prepare for a fight.
For 99% of the population that’s true but you’d lose the character of some of the greats and that’s what made them great so not everything is perfect but it’s what it’s meant to be at the time
That’s true mate but the public fall for the character, they don’t care if you do 10k runs or circuit training. They saw someone who was like them, sniff heads and getting drunk most days.

In retrospect was Kostya Tsyzu slightly over rated? His best win was a prime unbeaten Zab Judah and Shambah Mitchell. He has a bit of a thin resume.
What you know about he had over 350 amateur fights Tszyu is one of the best recent light welterweights

Frank Warren done good with that actually, they waited for Tyszu to age then capitalised. The name was good but he was past his best by a long stretch. Definitely a thin resume 💯

I like Ricky but don't know why he chooses to he so unhealthy. I get that he'll never train like he did as a boxer but just 10 percent of his old training and eating a little less junk would make such a difference.
A still think ricky should have got a rematch with mayweather straight after his loss. He had him on the ropes with a jab in the second and let the situation with the ref and floyd running get to him after that
