That "orb" is a photography ball. You can put in the sand at sunset and get beautiful photos. It reflects everything upside-down through the ball.
My husband went yard sale shopping last summer he came home so excited. One of the things he found was a large patriotic Jim Shore angel for .50. She’s quite a big girl. He proudly hands her over, I look at her and start laughing. No halo, no wings and her head had been glued back on. Although that was a good repair. Apparently she had been up to no good and was cast out of heaven so at best she is a “been there done that” kind of patriotic girl. 😂
I told my husband no worries she can stay with us and I’ll put her outside our front door. I have a little nook there I decorate for every holiday. She is rough around the edges but you can’t tell just walking by, especially when surrounded by greenery and some flowers.

Just stating my opinion and I know a lot of people are to the contrary but I do enjoy your visits to the antique malls. I love antique malls and when I can’t visit them myself- I browse vicariously through you! Goodwills are fine… as it’s all about the hunt- but they have been so junky and overpriced lately that I’ve become disillusioned ☹️Malls have so many more interesting curated stuff with better prices…at least in my area.

I have an antique booth and I have never put a broken or damaged piece in it. A booth is a reflection of the vendor it is something to take pride in not fill up with junk!

My dad had a piggy bank as big as that one. He named him Wilbur and only fed it silver. Every couple years it would be full enough he'd empty it and surge it on a splurge. He bought a big TV one year for the Super Bowl.

The material you were thinking of that can be damaged by water is alabaster. It's very soft and easy to carve. It's actually gypsum or calcium sulfate dihydrate. It's porous and slightly water soluble, so it can stain easily and can be damaged by water.
I make old glass birdbaths, feeders and fountains. I once made ones with these pretty doves on the side. After a few days of heavy rain I went out to water my flowers and all that was left was bird feet lol. I didn’t know they could melt lol.

I am not sure you noticed or if anyone else had mentioned it... but I believe there is a rather large crack on the Carnival glass bowl at 10:38 right next to your finger.
The Pyrex Americana is a pattern that really doesn't sell well for me, and that was overpriced!

Was the orb a crystal ball? I collect crystal orbs & egg shapes, palm (stress crystals). Yes, it would need a stand. Little round stands (like a ring but thicker & taller like 1/2” - 1” tall).

Maybe it’s just a midwinter downturn at Goodwill and no one is donating anything interesting. Maybe some of the really great stuff that used to be at Goodwill has “aged out” as in people who owned it have all moved on and are where we don’t have stuff of any type.
Interesting thought! I remember Jocelyn’s friend Dagney saying she fears the antiques for her daughter will be wooden signs with sayings on them! So true- nothing lasts forever 🤷♀️

The shelves you shop are so clean and organized and actually has good items to source. Here around New Orleans every single Goodwill I've been to has everythig thrown about. What beats that is there are never any good glass items because 5:54 the employees keep all the goods for themselves. They also have the nastiest attitudes when you question why there is so much broken stained and nasty items on the shelf. 7:01 Just sayin.
