Are Cheap Juicers Worth It?

  • Can you buy a quality slow juicer for under $100? We bought an inexpensive juicer from a local shop and compared it to a Sana 808 (Omega VSJ843 in the USA). We have an article on our website that takes a closer look at these "copycat' juicers.

    In my opinion ANY vertical masticating juicer that has plastic parts (other than the bowls for the juice and the pulp) is a BAD idea. There is just too much strain put on the plastic and sooner or later it will be crack. I speak from experience; I had a $400 Kuvings a few years ago whose plastic parts broke three times within a year after I bought it.

    Some shops sell those cheap juicers at high prices, making them masquerade as high-quality juicers. I was tricked into buying one as I did not do my research as I did before buying my durable blender. It looked very similar to the "cheap" model in this video and it is now in the bin. The shop actually offered to sell me another one at half price, but I rejected the offer.

    If that is a joyoung juicer they make spare parts. I have been using a 'capycat' joyong JYZ E9 for so many years I forget how long I have had it. It has been a workhorse for us and I can get spare parts easily. It came with a 6 year warranty but I have never had problems with it, ever. Joyoung is a very good and reputable brand and for 60 bucks compared to an omega which is what it goes up against I have had more than my money's worth. I have an ice cream option, a nutbutter grinder. It just works and works and works. I have nothing bad to say about them. They just are that good. The one you have their looks like the JYZ V5 and it is a good product as well. Lots of spare parts available and works like a charm. If its not a joyoung you may have a cheaper not off but I only buy Joyoung because the quality is so good. I do not see the reason to spend so many times more for something that does the job well. Try comparing using a joyoung and see what the difference is. I would like to see that.

It is cheaper than the expensive one,but still has a good quality.If the one is way too cheap,how could you expect it has the similar quality with the expensive one? If it has a burning smell...be carefully...

    Hi, I have an omega 8005/6 the juicing screen has broken on me 5 times, I love the machine but have spent a fortune on screens, I wonder if you know of a machine that doesn’t have plastic components that brake and compromise the the juicer? I really don’t understand why omega would use such a week link component in an otherwise great product . I’m really fed up, as it always happens on a juice fast...

    • @euJUICERScom
      @euJUICERScom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own a functionally similar Sana 707, and in 6 years haven't had a broken juicing screen. My wife managed to break the homogenizing screen, but that was because there was a small stone mixed with some dried roots. Is it breaking with a variety of ingredietns, or generally with the same ingredient?
      Really the only home machine with stronger components is the Angel juicer with its stainless steel screens. But it is also 3 times the price of the Omega.

    • @bobbymac1319
      @bobbymac1319 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EUJUICERS.COM hi it’s broken with a small stone in the root also , this time it the skin of lime that cracked the screen in half! Usually the screens break at the week point where the plastic mesh meets the housing of the screen. But I really don’t think that they should be this vulnerable to breaking because of being made of plastic...

    I think that if someone is on a budget, they should get a cheap centrifugal juicer for hard items such a carrots and beets, etc. Then get the less expensive masticating juicer for leafy greens and other soft veggies to avoid over-stressing the motor. For about $150 they can by both types of machines.

    • @euJUICERScom
      @euJUICERScom  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a good way to get both types on a budget, or when just starting juicing. It's a good idea with the centrifugal to drink the juice immediately, since that juice can oxidize. Or just throw in half a lemon or lime, since the ascorbic acid will slow down or stop any oxidation.

    • @rozchristopherson648
      @rozchristopherson648 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EUJUICERS.COM Thank you for your reply. That’s a great tip-to use a lime to help stop oxidation. I’ll do that from now on when juicing with a centrifugal. 😃👍

      I have the omega 8006 and a Brevelle. To be honest, I like them both. In the morning, if I do carrot, celery, apple, sweet potato, beets, and something else hard… I use the Brevelle all the time. I drink my juice as soon as I use the machine. Taste just as good in my opinion and is easy to clean. If I’m doing anything soft or greens, the Omega hands-down. Sometimes it just depends on my mood. The Omega is actually a lot easier to clean. I definitely like not cutting anything. If I have time, I would rather use the omega and cut everything up and take a few extra minutes. That said, I am going to try one of these cheap vertical juicers for greens and potentially more. For the money, as long as you’re not abusing the juicer and you understand the limits, I don’t see how one can go wrong..

    • @rozchristopherson648
      @rozchristopherson648 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brockdelorenzo7505 I agree. Because fruits and vegetables all have so many different textures, it's best to have at least two types of juicers for the best extraction depending on what fruit or vegetable you are juicing. I like the Breville juicer and the Omega. Those of those are good choices.

  • @mikea683
    @mikea683 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video, but you weren't impartial enough for it to be deemed a fair comparison. The yield from the Sama was clearly 500ml rather than 510-520ml as you stated. Still way better than the cheap juicer.

    • @euJUICERScom
      @euJUICERScom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Part of the problem is our table wasn't perfectly flat back when we filmed this, and could cause the yield to appear higher from the back, although that should have shown a higher yield for the second juicer as well. We've since leveled it but your point is valid.

    Omega VSJ843QR or Kuvings new EVO820 I am in confusion , price not a constraint. Pls help

    • @euJUICERScom
      @euJUICERScom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends if the larger feed chute is important for you. The EVO uses a trap-door feeding chute, same as the commercial Sana Horeca and Kuvings Chef models. It means less prep time, however wide-mouths will still jam on large pieces of carrots or beets. The Omega VSJ843/Sana 808 is a consistently top performer for yield and juice quality. But honestly, both the Omega and Kuvings are excellent machines. One advantage to the Kuvings is it has an available homogenizing screen (included with the Exclusive model) which can make sorbet, nut butter, etc. if that is important for you. The VSJ cannot do this.

      The premium machine is about three times the price as of this writing. Warranty, availbility of spare parts, ease of cleaning, and other factors should be taken into consideration more than just yield. But as mentioned in the video, the cheaper juicer is definitely a viable option, and a much better choice than a centrifugal juicer.

      Yes for the video, but currently we can get slow juicers as cheap as $30 (you can search for savtm je-07). And comparing it with a high-end brand like Hurom feels like the more you pay the little you get. It's a fair point you make, Kuan. Normally I open the juice tap after the first few carrots. You can see I started to open the flap at 13:23, but then got distracted and didn't open it until much later. It shouldn't affect motor performance, but yield can be improved sllightly (drier pulp) by having the juice tap open. Usually I only keep the tap closed when mixing juices or making nut milk. Thanks for pointing that out.
