Thank you for another cool episode! Red Dirt Girl is a powerful album. I love At the Ryman, too. I really like your focus on Emmylou's collaborations. Lots of trails for listeners to follow!
Oh yes indeed, it felt natural going that route simply because as I was digging, tree branches (aka liner notes, books, videos) kept leading me to so many of the collaborations she has had… like shiny objects can grab my attention, I suppose all these talented friends she’s made such great music with have too. A lifetime to listen to great music 🎶 🌈🐕
If I remember correctly, At the Ryman was recorded without an audience because the building was deemed unsafe for occupancy and specially permission was needed to let the band make the recording.
Oh wow !!! I did not know this! ….audience/applause can be heard throughout the album… So would they have added that in afterwards? Thank you for watching!
They allowed a limited audience of around 200 people and none in the balcony due to structural concerns. They were mostly friends of Emmylou and very enthusiastic.
I think my favourite song by Emmylou Harris is "Michelangelo" from her Red Dirt album. I'm darned if I can figure out who wrote it. The lyrics are eerie and seem to reflect the Book of Revelation.
Yes I'm familiar with Red Dirt Girl and the song Michelangelo specifically. I also don't know who wrote that particular song but I always assumed it was Emmylou ... someone out there might be able to confirm!

The liner notes say it was written by Emmylou Harris.
